The Alien Prophecy Page 40

by Vaughn Heppner

  Jack nodded in appreciation.

“You just said something interesting,” Selene told Smith. “You claimed you can call the Secretary as in with a radio?”

“It isn’t through a radio,” Smith said, “but we can communicate long distance again, at least if we’re flying high enough and are in direct line of sight. It’s one of the new technologies we picked up. Are you ready?”

  “I am,” Jack said.

“I believe so is the Secretary,” Smith said. “She has a new assignment for you. It involves the stations.”

  Jack and Selene traded glances.

Smith raised his eyebrows. Then, he pulled a small device from an inner coat pocket, clicking it. A screen lowered. He pressed another button. Several seconds later, Secretary King of D17 smiled at them from her office in Washington D.C.

Jack Elliot allowed himself another of his rare grins. They had won. Earth was intact. Mother was gone forever. The core was slowing down and humanity had begun to rebuild from the terrible damage. Maybe just as important, America knew their hidden enemy now, the ones who had pulled the strings behind the scenes for so long.

Maybe this time, they could rebuild the world into something better than before. Jack reached across the bar and took hold of Selene’s left hand. Then, he listened to what Secretary King had to tell him.
