Silvers Alpha (The Silver Series) Page 6

With no understanding or interest in what he was talking about, Lucky kicked him straight in the face and he roared up in anger. She could hear a scuffle behind her, the dark was not her friend tonight the disadvantage though was only to her, everyone else could see. Closing her eyes she allowed her other senses to reach out to aid her. As the vamp stalked towards her, she stepped back to give herself some more room, she couldn’t see much but she could feel that the man was pissed off.

She threw her knife at him, but he swerved and rather than striking his heart, she instead got his shoulder. Throwing a punch he caught her in the mouth, and she knew from his face that he could smell her blood which always increased the danger; damn it was time to finish this quickly. Pulling her sword (okay it wasn't a full length sword, but a light weight one designed for her height and weight) from her back as she swung round, and cleanly detached his head from his body. Lucky turned around to find Darius sat on the wall watching her.

"Thank god, I thought you were going to pansy around with him until sunrise." Darius was smiling at her; however sarcasm dripped from his words.

"Dumb ass, I like to take my time. When will these idiots get a brain, and learn not to pick a fight with an ancient, even a slow ancient."

Darius was bent over the body of the first vampire; he quickly thrust his hand into the chest cavity and pulled out the heart, throwing it in the air. Lucky watched as he set fire to it mid drop, using just his mind.

"That never stops being gross." Lucky clearly did not share the same talents, when she couldn't decapitate a vampire she had to remove the heart and spray holy water on it. Not as quick and efficient as Darius but holy water directly to the heart will incinerate it in seconds, and Lucky just happened to have a bottle full of holy water on her at all times.

"Err Lucky; did you know you are bleeding? It doesn't matter how safe you are with me, I would rather not smell your fresh blood."

"Ooo are you sure Darius?" She knew full well that Darius would lay down his life for her as she would him, so he was not a risk to her, she just enjoyed teasing him.

"Let's get back to the office before you get into any more trouble. Have you noticed that lately trouble seems to follow you everywhere?"

"Hey why is it following me and not you, you are always there when trouble comes knocking?" There was no seriousness in her tone just as there had been none in his question; neither really understood how close their conversation was to the truth.

As Darius started laughing, he put his arm around her protectively. "Yes I am an ancient although I am far from slow, and most people know better. Now let's get you cleaned up and go home."

  ******************************

Less than three hours later, Lucky was pacing her bedroom floor with three sets of eyes watching her. "I am not sure of this anymore; you know my ideas are appalling so why are you letting me do this? If you were any sort of friends, you would have stopped me by now." She had already had two glasses of wine and was feeling highly strung tonight.

"Hey sweetie calm down, breathe. If you don't want to do this we don't have to." Mary was desperately trying to calm her, unsuccessfully she might add.

"Screw that Mary, yes she does now drink this." Amelia thrust another glass of wine into Luckys hand.

"We have spent the last three weeks watching her pretend everything is okay, while she stares into space and questions her sanity, over whether her one night of passion was a figment of her imagination. Any man that can do that to a woman needs to be seen again." Amelia was ignoring Lucky in favour of Mary.

Sarah decided to offer her opinion. "I really would like to see exactly how gorgeous this mystery man is, and if we have to go to Silvers to find out then so be it. If he has any similar looking brothers or cousins, I am willing to carry the burden of seeing if the skills run in the family. Now let's go."

Throwing her hands in the air, the exaggerated movements indicating her acquiesce. "In that case I am wearing my own clothes and changing into something more comfortable."

As she stood looking at herself in a short white skirt with a bustier top, Lucky was without a doubt uncomfortable. Opening her wardrobe she pulled out a pair of jeans that hung low on her hips, with strategic rips and holes in them they were both comfortable and sexy. Lucky did however leave the bustier top on; the turquoise colour looked fabulous with her jeans. Wearing minimal makeup she pinned her hair up but left some strands hanging around her face.

As she drained her wine, another glass appeared in her hand so she drank this while adding some strappy sandals to finish off the look. God she was drinking the wine as if it were water.

"Right lets go, before I really do change my mind." Lucky had two choices, stay or go? After a minute of internal debate she had made her decision, go it was.

To drink, or not to drink? That was the next decision for Lucky to make. She needed to drink for courage but if she drank too much she might do something stupid like fall on a penis again. Although as she recalled the memories, she would have to say that it was such a lovely long, and thick penis, maybe she should check to see how accurate her memory was. She hadn't actually seen it at the time, but she had thought about it a lot since then. She was certainly not going to have sex with him again; she just needed to see if he was real. Had there truly been a spark, or had it just been her imagination?

By the time they were heading to Silvers, Lucky was without doubt slightly drunk but only slightly, she was still walking, albeit with a slight wobble. She could still hold a coherent conversation, even though her voice had a slight slur to it.

"Goddamn Sarah look at the queue." Amelia was not impressed, which might have been because the night had suddenly turned bitter with strong winds leaving an icy trail in its path. Lucky thought the fresh air was doing her some good; she was starting to think things through.

"Look I think we should leave, I don't…" Lucky turned around as a hand tapped her on the shoulder.

"Ladies would you like to come this way you have seats waiting in the VIP lounge, and all drinks are compliments of the management team."

As Lucky looked up the door staff started steering them through the crowd. Before she could speak Amelia pushed her through the door. She stumbled for a second, at the same time as the three men watching from just inside the door seemed to notice them.

Ladies would you like to join us for a drink?" He was young with sandy blonde hair that he let grow over his eyes. He was tall, well-built with a whopping smile plastered across his face, his friends seemed nice and observant of them. As friendly as the men seemed they were not who she had come to see, she saw out of the corner of her eye that his friends watched in apprehensive silence.

"We are fine so no thanks." Sarah answered as she eyed them eagerly, particularly the chatty one. Amelia had also taken an interest in the men. "We most certainly are. We are on the way to the VIP lounge so maybe we will see you around later."

"Oh I can pretty much guarantee we will see you later, you all have a good night, I am certain we will." With that he and his friends went over to talk to some of the staff members at the club. Lucky noted that there was a few people gathered around, chatting animatedly amongst themselves all the while sneaking glances at her friends.

They were taken to the VIP lounge which was on the first floor. A waitress actually provided them with a bottle of champagne on entry. Lucky was a bit weary, maybe it was her imagination but many of the staff seemed to smell the air around her and her friends. Maybe she had drunk too much alcohol and it was now impairing her vision.

"Oh my god this is fantastic, look at this place." Turning in a circle, Mary was clearly impressed by the VIP lounge and Lucky had to agree it looked fantastic.

With very discreet booths round the outside of the room angled to provide privacy it gave it a cosy yet sexy feel. The whole area was decked in Silver and black, the dance floor was at least half the size of the public one and each square lit up. The mirrors made the area look larger
than it was, there were purposefully placed plants dotted around and everything was in immaculate condition. With twinkling lights under the glass on the tables each booth looked almost magical. Large chandeliers hung from the ceiling, all dimmed low. Material was draped from the ceiling like a parachute.

"Ladies it seems I was too late to buy you that drink, but maybe later. How do you like the VIP lounge?" Well what a surprise, the men from downstairs were also in the VIP area.

Sarah was quick to answer. "It's impressive and so beautifully opulent. I know this is for VIPS, but why do you think there are so many security people at the entrance." Turning Lucky saw four people on the doors and they were colossal. Even though they were scanning the room they also kept watching her or seemed like they were. She was trying to work out if she knew them, but they didn't seem familiar.

"Oh well that's simple, apparently the owners mate is expected here tonight, hence the dudes who are nearly but not quite as big as me." The tall blond one smiled slyly, yet it wasn’t smarmy he was charming and sweet. He was actually quite amusing; his friends however were quiet, glancing around as if they were expecting someone, yet this one didn’t seem concerned.

"So Mr Cool would you mind telling us WHAT you are?" Sarah cut to the point, and although she was being sarcastic, Lucky knew her friend and could see she was clearly interested in him.

"What do you want me to be?" He was appraising her seeming to like what he saw.

"You are joking aren't you, don't tell me that line has worked before?" Lucky was starting to feel like a spare part, Mary and Amelia had wandered off towards the dance floor, she stayed so Sarah wasn’t left alone with three random men.

"You would be surprised, why do you think I am anything other than human?"

For some reason his friends seemed to be getting agitated. "Nicky back off, you don't want to do this." The taller leaner one was smiling; however there was a serious note to the other man's tone.

Lucky looked at him as she answered the question he had put to Sarah. "Twice since you arrived your eyes have changed into a swirly pattern; it was so brief that I nearly missed it. You are larger than the average human male, although I imagine that your ego is probably larger. Even though you give the impression of focussing on us, you sniff a little more than most and you are watching the room. That is how I know that you are not human?"

"That's frightfully astute I am impressed, well I…. no we…" He said gesturing to his friends. "We are wolf shifters and you know what that means don't you?"

Sarah had no intention of being outdone. "Surprise me, are you quicker than most of us? Oh don’t answer I know, you are more annoying and arrogant than most people." Her tone belied her amusement.

Instead of being upset he just laughed. "Actually I was referring to the fact that we make exceptional lovers." His smile was wide, his eyes glinting in amusement waiting for a response.

"Is that so, and how many people have told you that?" Sarah was shamelessly flirting and he was unquestionably encouraging her.

"Ah more than enough have told me. How about you ladies, any of you ever experienced the wolf?"

"Is that an offer?" Sarah was now openly ogling him, and Lucky could see Amelia and Mary coming back.

"Maybe but are you game?" Looking at Lucky he continued. "What about you, ever tasted the wolf?"

And then she felt it, the air around her seemed to thicken, she could smell him, feel him behind her. How? How did her body respond to him? She hadn’t even seen him yet her body was already tingling.

"Hey short, dark and smoking hot? These wasters aren't bothering you, are they? Nicky what are you trying to do? Do you really want me to kick your ass in front of everyone?"

Nicky just laughed. "You wish, I was just talking to these gorgeous females. Would you like an intro, I am sure that I am more than capable of getting a name for you." There was some hidden joke in there from the ensuing snickers, but Lucky had no idea what.

With that the others started laughing. Lucky turned to look at him unable to keep her gaze from him. He was staring straight at her; his eyes seemed to bore straight into her soul. For a few seconds, she lost her breath. First he stroked her face, then her lip that was still slightly swollen from today's brawl in the alley; she blinked and seemed to re-join the land of the conscious people as he stroked his hand down her neck.

"Tall, dark and fucking gorgeous. Shit I said that out loud, again." At her words he smiled and his face totally lit up. Why couldn't she control her tongue around him?

"Hey beautiful, I was starting to think I made you up." Leaning down he continued. "I am pleased that I hadn't, but my imagination was not good enough."

Ben initially frowned before he continued. "Do you want to tell me about your lip?" He was talking about the swelling on her lip.

"Umm hello Mr and Mrs let's stare into each other's eyes. Introductions all round please, starting with you and while you are there, you can tell us how you know these clowns." Amelia and Mary had somehow come back pretty damn quick, and Amelia wanted information.

He laughed and Lucky thought it was the sweetest sound she had ever heard, it just rumbled through her.

"Well I am Ben; this is my kid brother Nicky and his useless friends Seb and Julian. His friends who are supposed to keep him out of trouble, and in communication." She couldn’t miss the accusation, or the reaction. The other two men dropped their eyes when they answered.

"Seriously Ben we tried, we really did, but it was like a party and we stayed with him. We made sure that he did not get into serious trouble but well shit……" The dark haired one must be Seb, with his dark hair and eyes, he had a Spanish look to him and a very slight accent, an accent Lucky couldn't quite place.

"Seb's right, we stayed with him and Nicky is fine although we should have checked in." The one named Julian was trying not to laugh, he had a shock of orange hair with green eyes, and Lucky got the impression that he and Nicky were not the serious types. Seb on the other hand did look contrite.

"So much for being able to rely on best friends, how many times do I have to say I do not need anyone keeping me out of trouble? Unlike you I know exactly what I am doing and with whom?" Nicky's words caused some laughing as he focussed his smile on Ben and Lucky before walking off. His friends followed still laughing.

"Excuse my brother, he seems to forget that he needs to pull his weight, anyway where was I? Your lip what happened?"

Her tongue automatically snaked out, caressing the swollen part of her lip. "Oh it's fine nothing to worry about. Just a little work incident, it doesn't matter."

His eyes seemed to darken as he bent in even closer, she felt him take in her scent. "You look and smell beautiful, and it does matter."

"I think that woman behind the bar is waving at you." Mary was staring past them both.

"Damn, I need to help out behind the bar, will you wait please?" He looked a little desperate, debating whether to leave Lucky or do his job.

Lucky nodded. "I will." She didn't think she could move if she tried, there was something between them, she just wasn't sure what.

Ben did not look reassured. "Seriously I think we need to talk about why you went off, please don't leave this time." Why the hell did he suddenly feel like a pup again, he thought he had stopped feeling jittery and anxious three centuries ago?

  "I won't, I promise."

Ben walked off before he doubled backed. "Wait a minute, before I go what is your name?"

  "Lucky Sanchez."

"Lucky, I like it the name suits you." Without saying anything else, he smiled dipped his head and kissed her thoroughly. The feelings were so intense that she thought she might just crumple to the floor. As he walked away she grabbed the table ledge behind her for support.

"Damn girl he is all fine. Hell when you have finished with him, I might want to take a turn. I don't even care that you would have been there already." Amelia was still watching his butt, and Lucky pushed her not liking her friend drooling
at him.

"Ah Melia, that is just sick although he is fine with a capital FINE. In lieu of his availability, I would consider the brother. Those cheesy chat up lines really do it for me." Sarah was still watching Nicky and his friends through the crowd.

Ben felt as though the weight was off him, she was here, she was gorgeous, and she made him feel happy. He was hoping Connor would find someone to cover for him at the bar; he had no doubt that all the pack members in the club knew she was here. The club was busy and while he didn't normally mind helping out he wanted to be with her. Lucky, he rolled her name round his tongue, he honestly did like the name it suited her.

"What does it take to get a glass of O positive around here? A vamp could die of dehydration just from waiting for you. Seriously you need to talk to the owner about the staff."

"Pipe down and get your own." Ben couldn't help but laugh, his mood has increased immensly.

"Hey for someone who wants my help, you're not being very nice about it and why are you suddenly smiling?"

"I don't need your help jack ass, I found her." His friend joined him behind the bar, indeed getting his own drink.

"Hey where is the poor woman? Have you told her that she will forever be followed around by security guys, or that I am sure you will be the most possessive mate within a 100 mile radius?" He was being sarcastic but Ben could also hear in his tone, that his friend was genuinely pleased for him.

"Screw you, it's a good job I think of you as a friend. It means that I don't have to kick your ass and she is over there with three other women and Nicky, again."

"Err Ben! Which one is she?"

Ben could see his friend looking at the group seemingly overly interested. "Darius don't even try to be funny, Nicky has already tried to chat her up just for fun, but my good mood will only go so far."

"Seriously Ben, which one is she?"

Lucky looked up and waved at them. "That's the one; the stunner with long dark hair, big brown eyes, when she smiles there is nothing more mesmerising, and she has the firmest ass that I have ever seen."
