Thank you for reading Forged in Fire and for coming along on the journey through the Homefront series. Sal and Holly are somewhat of the end of an era for me. Most of my books have been set at Fort Hood, in the fictional Fifth Brigade Combat Team of the First Cavalry Division. Sal and Holly are probably the last book I’ll write set in that esteemed location and the end of this series and the Coming Home series is bittersweet for me in a lot of ways.
Fort Hood will always feel like home for me. I spent the vast majority of my military career there. I first arrived there as a young buck sergeant from Germany. I returned there after I commissioned as a second lieutenant and served there with some of the finest officers and NCOs I’ve ever encountered, many of whom shaped me into the officer I am today.
But sadly, all things must end and I feel like my time writing about Fort Hood is among those things ending. I’ll never say never, though.
If I have accomplished anything while writing these books, it has come in the form in the reader emails telling me they’ve enjoyed the books but also, that they learned something. Or emails telling me I got something right.
Thank you for reading these books. They are in many ways the books of my heart, the books that I couldn’t not write. I hope you’ll continue to think about them and what our soldiers face as they come home from war long after these books are gathering dust on your shelf.
And I hope you’ll stop by and see what comes next in my writing career, whatever that may be.

Jessica Scott is a career Army officer, mother of two daughters, three cats, and three dogs, wife to a career NCO, and wrangler of all things stuffed and fluffy. She is a terrible cook and even worse housekeeper, but she’s a pretty good shot with her assigned weapon. Somehow, her children are pretty well-adjusted and her husband still loves her, despite burned water and a messy house.
