He stared into my eyes before his face broke into a wide smile. "All of it, Zelda." He raised his eyebrows and glanced around my house. "So this is where a witch lives, huh?"
"Yes," I answered. "Josh, I...I don't know what to say to you. I understand if you want to get in the car with Jessica and run a mil ion miles away."
He looked at me with his hands in his pockets. "Depends. Are you going to run a million miles away?"
"Do you want me to?"
He shook his head. "I want you to stay here." He turned his shoulders around and surveyed the house. "Well, not specifically here." He turned back to me and walked towards me. He reached down and took my face between his hands, and then he leaned down and kissed my lips. He pulled back and said, "I hope you will join the rest of us—the living, and the mortals, again."
I stood there staring up at him, my heart beating fast. "I think I am ready to do that."

One Month Later
"There he comes," Helen murmured behind me. "In cuffs, just like he belongs."
I heaved a heavy sigh of relief as I saw Jim being led down the courthouse steps. It would be many years before he was able to terrorise this town again. Helen reached out and put a hand on my shoulder. "You did good, kiddo. You stood up and told everyone what he did to you. It was very brave, being honest like that."
I turned back to Helen. "Except now everyone knows." I looked up at her wrinkled face, with her curtains of jet black hair surrounding it and falling just below her pink necklace. "What are we going to do, Helen?"
She reached out, placed both hands on my shoulders, and smiled at me. "Wel , I know I'm not going to run and hide again. I'm not going to turn myself into a small creature just to escape the likes of Jim Beasley. We've got to stick together." She raised an eyebrow. "That means no more isolating yourself, young lady. I don't want you turning into me. I don't even want to turn into me."
I nodded and gave her a hug.
After we broke the embrace, I turned and saw Josh heading towards me. He came up to me with a big grin and reached his arms around my waist. "I'm proud of you," he said, leaning down to kiss me on the cheek.
"Now, should we all go to the diner for pancakes and coffee?" He looked at me and then at Helen, who was nodding eagerly. "Al right! It's a group date, then."
He took my hand in his and we began to walk down the steps in the direction of the diner.
"Wait!" a voice called out.
I spun around to see Jessica racing towards us, her blond ponytail swinging wildly. "Zelda." She stopped, out of breath. "There's a new case."
She knelt over for a second to steady her breathing before she looked up at me. "It's a big one. We—I—need your help."
I stopped and stared at her with my mouth wide open. "Jessica I said this was the last time."
"Please, Zelda." She looked at me with those pleading blue eyes. "For me. One last time."
I let out a long, heavy sigh. "Okay then. One last time."
