In the Realm of Dragons Page 6

by George Ivanoff

The dragon head disperses and the fairy dragons surround you. Each one grabs onto you, taking a hold of your clothes and hair. And then they fly you up. High into the air you go, lifted by hundreds of tiny creatures.

Propelled by the wings of these fairy dragons, you are whisked away at incredible speed across the Realm of Dragons, a trail of fairy dust in your wake. Over mountains and fields, cities and sweeping plains, you are carried to a strange place where desert and snowscape meet. There, you are flown to a lake, half-frozen, half-aflame, and to the shimmering ball of light in its centre. The fairy dragons release you, and you fall into the dazzling brilliance.

  Go here.

  SPLASH!

You’re kicking and paddling and swallowing water. Opening your eyes, you frantically try to stay afloat as you look out across the water. You are in the middle of the lake near your school camp. You’ve made it back to your own world.

  Yay!

Such a pity you can’t swim.

  Boo!

Wind whips your hair as your feet land on a hard stone surface. You open your eyes.

You blink in disbelief. You are up high. VERY high! A desert landscape to one side, a city to the other.

You’ve made it back to your own world. But …

You’re in Egypt! Standing atop one of the pyramids!

Now … how are you going to get down?

You fall into darkness … onto something soft and springy. You can’t see. Blackness surrounds you. You begin to panic.

Then you realise that your eyes are still closed. D’oh!

You open your eyes slowly. You are in a darkened room, light seeping in from behind closed curtains.

As your eyes adjust, you realise that you’re in your cabin at the school camp. You’re back in your own world. Safe and sound. Without any dragons.

  Dragons?

You wonder … could it all have been a dream?

  Or did it really happen?
