Her psychology professor warned her that being able to talk was as equally important as being able to listen. Patients sometimes wanted to hear your own personal experiences.

  She wasn’t abused or anything.

Her parents just … didn’t want her.

They’d taken care of her, but there had been so many times she was told to shut the fuck up that she’d simply stopped talking about herself.

Taking a deep breath, she stood up and ran herself a shower. She needed to cram some study in before sleep. She worked early tomorrow at the coffee shop, and had three classes to attend.

She was undecided between psychology and teaching. The thought of standing in a classroom full of kids unnerved her, but being held responsible for people with problems also worried her.

This was the rest of her life, and she wanted to get it right and not screw people up in the process.

Her professors told her she overthought everything.

With worrying about money, working, and studying, she didn’t really have much time to think about anything else.

Pushing those thoughts and fears aside, she took a quick shower. Then she wrapped a towel around her, securing the ends between her breasts as she flicked open one of her books, and began to read through the notes she’d made in class. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw her schedule peeking out and cursed.

Grabbing her cell phone, she pulled up his e-mail address and sent him both her study and work schedule. Dropping her phone to the bed, she didn’t give his response much thought, and when another text came through, she ignored it, concentrating on studying. Minutes passed when her cell phone began to buzz again.

She dropped her pen and turned her cell phone over to see it was Daniel calling.

  “Hello,” she said.

“You don’t have to sound so shocked that I’m calling you.”

“Did my attachment not open?” she asked. He’d given her the rules that he wasn’t looking for a relationship, and neither was she.

She didn’t want to really talk about their arrangement. The sex was fantastic, but she was uncomfortable thinking about the money side of things.

If she hadn’t been in such a desperate place, she wouldn’t have even been on the website. She wondered if Daniel would have found another woman to help him with his need for sex without commitment.

  “It did.”

She frowned. “Then what’s the problem?”

Daniel burst out laughing, and she couldn’t help but smile. “Nothing is a problem, Elizabeth. I wanted to check up and see how you were.”

“I’m fine.” She was a little tender, but being the big girl that she was, she’d get over it.

“I must confess I didn’t expect you to be this cold.”

  “I’m not cold.”

“You rarely speak, and today you were dressed and gone before me.”

“I thought you wanted to just have sex.” She ran fingers through her hair, not used to having someone want something more from her.

“I do want sex, but you see, Elizabeth, there can be a lot more to fucking than just the act. I don’t want you to lie there and do nothing. I want this to be easy for both of us. I don’t want you to be nervous around me. Get to know me, just never mistake anything for romance.”

“O-kay, I think. You want to talk and get to know each other as well.”

“That can be part of the enjoyment of sex. Tell me what you’re doing right now.”

She glanced around her room. “I’m studying.”

He laughed. “You know, I think I’ve got my work cut out for me. Not only do I get to teach you about fucking, and how to enjoy that curvy body of yours, but I’m also going to teach you how to make small talk.”

  Elizabeth liked that.

“What are you studying?” he asked.

“I’m part way through a psychology essay about the different parts of the brain, and what’s connected to emotions.”

“You want to be a psychologist?”

“Or a teacher. I’m not sure which yet. I’ve got a few weeks to make a final decision.”

“I happen to have a couple of friends within both those fields. If you’d like we can arrange for you to speak with them and get a more hands on feel to those two environments.”

She didn’t know what to say.

  “Elizabeth, you still there?”

“You only know me to fuck me,” she said.

  “So?”

“Why would you help me with something this important?”

“I’m not a monster. Why don’t you trust me to help you out? Consider us friends who can scratch each other’s back.”

  I’m a whore.

“You really don’t have to do that.”

“I want to. I’ve looked through your schedule. I noticed you’re completely free on Sundays. Don’t you go back to see your family?”

“I use that day to catch up.”

“How about we split that day? I’d like to see you every Saturday. I’ll pick you up at seven when you finish work, and we’ll spend the night, and I’ll take you back on Sunday.”

She bit her lip. “Sure, that sounds like fun.” She made a note on her schedule by putting SD together. Sugar Daniel or Daddy.

“I’ll call you whenever I need you, but I’ll be sure to not invade either your work or college.”

“Okay.” She circled the initials she’d written down. “I enjoyed today.”

“I did as well. I like you, Elizabeth.”

“I like you, too. So you’re a lawyer. That must be very challenging.”

“It keeps me on my toes, that’s for damn sure. I don’t like to be bored nor do I like for people to have expectations of me. Especially when I made no promises.”

“You don’t have to worry, Daniel. I’ve no intention of falling in love with you. I have my own path what I want to do, remember.”

“I do. If you need anything, give me a call.”

She hung up the phone after he said goodbye.

Daniel would be the last person she called if she needed anything. She liked talking to him, and he seemed nice enough. When she thought about the risks of getting involved in the website, she’d been desperate.

The money Daniel had given her had already paid her rent, and she was now in advance. She didn’t have much left, but she could make a deposit for the hospital bill. She still had her loan to pay for as well.

Money would still be tight, but so long as she had Daniel and the work at the coffee shop, by the end of the year, she should be back to where she started.

She had no intention of falling in love with Daniel.

Her life was already planned out, and she wouldn’t move away from that plan. Daniel was more than safe with her.

  ****

Daniel put his cell phone down and stared at his e-mail with Elizabeth’s details. She seemed so distant. He’d wanted to check on her just to make sure she was okay. Signing into the Sugar Daddy website, he did a quick search and found that all of her details had been removed.

Closing down his account, he pushed that to one side and focused on the case at hand. He was having to deal with a cheating spouse case, which would have been clean-cut if the wife didn’t want more than half.

It was up to him to try to get only half as his client didn’t want to lose all of his money. The problem with that was the pre-nup the couple had agreed to stated any adultery would result in a fifty percent cut rising to a seventy-five percent cut plus damages.

Three years ago, he’d advised against the pre-nup, but his client believed the woman was the one, and not a gold-digger.

Everything had gone tits up, and now Daniel had to deal with this shit. The ex would get her money, all right. He just needed to make sure his client wasn’t left with nothing, even though the bastard deserved it.

This was why Daniel never got married. In his experience, women were after one thing: money. They would rob a man of everything he had. Running a hand down his
face, he tried to clear his own thoughts.

The women he dealt with were partners of rich men, or daughters of rich fathers, and most of them had the worst attitude, acting like money was the key to everything.

He thought about Elizabeth, how vulnerable she seemed. Her embarrassment as well. He liked her, even if she didn’t talk a lot, but he’d change that.

“You’re working late again?” Mark Keir asked. He’d been with the company for ten years, and was a valued asset to them. His success rate in the courtroom was outstanding.

He was also one of the men Daniel had heard talking about Sugar Daddy.

“Yep. You know how it is. Clients want things done yesterday.”

“Most of them want miracle work, and we’re just men, right? We can’t rig the system because they screwed up.”

“And couldn’t keep it in their pants.” Daniel tapped his pen on the desk. “I overheard you and the guys talking about something the other day in the break room.” He got up and rounded his desk, folding his arms as he did.

“That coffee machine hears a lot of conversations. What did you hear?”

“The one about the website Sugar Daddy?”

Mark laughed. “Yeah, man, some of the guys rave about that site.”

  “Have you used it?”

Mark glanced behind him, entering the office and closing the door. “You thinking of using it?”

“I’m wondering how it could work. If it’s even as good as it says. They’re young women, right? To get that term for the site.”

Mark shook his head. “Not necessarily. I’ve seen women in their forties and fifties on the site. Sexy and hot as well. I think it’s more the financial support in most cases. Sugar Daddy.”

  “You’ve used it then.”

  “This stays between us.”

“I’ve not gotten this far by telling tales.”

Mark laughed. “I’ve been with a couple of the women there. At first it can be a little awkward. Being taken care of for sex, but after some time it can be like the most natural thing in the world. Are you thinking of trying it out?”

Daniel shrugged. “It seems easier, you know. Finding a woman who knows that you don’t want anything up front.”

“That’s why I started using it. I found it late one night when I just wanted something, you know? Anyway, I better be heading out. If you do try it, I hope it’s a success.”

“Do you think any of the women fall for the man that picks them?” Daniel asked.

“I don’t know, to be honest. My experience with it is the women want a bit of security, and none of the crap that goes with it. ’Night.”

Daniel said his goodbye, and rounded the desk to look over the schedule once again. Elizabeth never stopped. It kind of reminded him of himself when he’d been in college. Always willing to take one more class, to do one more essay. It didn’t take long before he was drowning in them.

Printing out a copy of her schedule, he stood up, grabbing it from the machine near his PA’s desk. She’d gone for the night, and he was alone in the office. He’d probably sleep on the sofa rather than go home.

He couldn’t resist another peek at what his PI had gotten him. Reaching into the bottom of his desk, he grabbed the file, opening it up, and there she was. Several shots that had been taken over the years. The first was from high school, then at college, along with her driver’s license, even though she didn’t own a car.

Scanning through the details, he saw where she’d hit her recent snag. The scholarship had been reduced, and she had to foot the bill or change colleges.

That was at times the biggest problem with scholarships. If the company went bust, it was the students that ended up having to deal with it. She’d been denied several grants, and then he saw she’d been ill as well. His PI needed a raise. Her life over the past three years was laid out before him.

The last year of high school up to now.

He’d even gotten a report from the landlord about the late rent payments. She’d been employed at the local coffee shop the moment she moved into her apartment. There was not much contact from her parents, and she didn’t seem to have any friends, just a study group she attended every once in a while.

You’re spending way too much time with this.

Flicking the pen between his fingers, he saw the exact date that she’d uploaded her picture. No one but himself had clicked on it.

Some men didn’t like a fuller woman, but he loved her ass, tits, and thighs. Just thinking about them wrapped around his waist made him hard as fucking rock. The feel of her pussy as he drove his cock inside her was pure bliss.

You’re not supposed to be obsessing.

Snapping the file closed, he forced himself to put it away.

The whole point of getting Elizabeth had been so he didn’t waste any time thinking about her, or wondering what she was doing. How she was coping.

Pulling out his cell phone, he got her number up and decided to send her a quick text.

  Daniel: How are you?

  Elizabeth: Good.

She didn’t say anything else, and again he was frowning. He had no idea what to do.

Another beep from his cell phone alerted him to a text.

Elizabeth: You? I don’t know if I’m allowed to ask. Is that part of the rules?

  Now he smiled.

  Daniel: Don’t worry so much.

Elizabeth: They’re your rules. I’m not going to break them.

Daniel: You ever thought of breaking the rules?

Elizabeth: No. You seemed pretty adamant that you don’t want a woman that lingers.

Even now he felt so fucking stupid talking to her.

He’d been the one to say he didn’t want a relationship, but yet here he was, instigating everything.

  Daniel: Did you enjoy today?

  Elizabeth: Yes. Did you?

Daniel: Loved it. Are you sore?

Elizabeth: You can’t ask me that.

He hated typing and was done texting. Clicking on her number, he waited for her to answer.

“You know you’re confusing me a lot right now,” she said, answering his call.

“I won’t be such a nag next time. It has been a long time since you were with someone, and I wanted to make sure you were okay.”

“Yeah, I’m fine. I’m not made of glass. I won’t break.”

  “Are you sore?” he asked.

“A little, but it’s nothing a little rest won’t fix. I’m just not used to having sex. Especially not with a guy I’ve just met.”

“Well, you know a great deal about me.”

  “Not really.”

“You know I’m a lawyer. I don’t have time for relationships. That I love the taste of your pussy with just one lick, and also the feel of your pussy around me.”

  “That you have no filter.”

“Life’s too short not to be blunt. I’ve found that you get the right reaction out of people when you’re like that.”

She laughed. “I didn’t expect this.”

  “What?”

“The aftercare call. I thought you just wanted a body.”

“No, I don’t want a body. I guess I want the whole package without it costing me more.”

“You want a girlfriend without commitment?” she asked.

“In a way, yes. I don’t want to meet parents or share stuff like that.”

“Don’t worry. I have no intention of taking you to see my parents. I don’t even know how I’d even introduce you.”

“‘Mom, Dad, this is my sugar daddy. I fuck him, and he takes care of me.’” He preferred that a lot more than paying her money. He also knew that she wasn’t comfortable about that. Especially as she went completely silent on the other end.

“Or you could just say, ‘Hi, this is Daniel. He’s a friend.’”

“You want to be my friend?” she asked.

  “I wouldn’t be talking to you if I didn’t.”

  “Then hello, friend.”

&n
bsp; “That wasn’t so hard, was it?”

“So you want a woman to be available to you. To give you everything you need but to also be friends with?”

“Yes. Think you can handle it?”

  “I think I just might.”

He laughed. He really did like her.

  Chapter Four

It had been a couple of days since Lizzie received the call from Daniel. He’d not communicated with her since then, not that she minded. He seemed to make his own rules up as he went along, but she was starting to understand exactly what he wanted.

All Daniel wanted was a woman who’d remain available to him but also talk to him, be his friend.

Their conversation the other day made her aware of why some women found it hard not to take it to the next level. He was a nice man, and he made her laugh. She had no doubt at all that he had moments where he could be a bastard. His bluntness at times took her aback, but for the most part she liked him.

He was sexy, confident, self-assured, and he didn’t make her feel like a slut either. Not once did he rub it in her face that he paid her for sex, or that they’d met through a website that brought them together with the promise of sex and being taken care of.

Dropping her bag onto the library table, Lizzie grabbed three books she needed off the shelves and took a seat.

The study group she attended with ten other people had just called it a night after throwing around their ideas, their thoughts. She enjoyed participating with the group, and it certainly helped her to deal with points in her essays that she really didn’t gel with.

Opening her bottle of water, she took a sip to help ease her dry throat, looking through one of the books, and began to take notes on the human reaction, the standard reactions that each emotion showed.

As a psychologist, she needed to be able to read body language to understand what her patient was saying without speaking a word.

A group of girls took the seats next to her, and she moved her bottle of water out of the way, tucking some hair behind her ear.

“So, what happened? Did you do it?” a giggling brunette asked.

As she was reading over the passage a second time, the girls were talking loud enough for her to hear, and she found them a little too distracting.
