My breasts ached, and I missed my boys. Slowly I got up and took my shower, then dressed, eager to get to my babies. I practically ran over to my grandparents’ house and let myself into the quiet house, which surprised me with its silence. I expected by now they would be screaming the house down. I was shocked even more when I made my way into the living room to find my brother Andrew cradling a still-sleeping Blaine, and Trever making faces at Cruz, who stared, fascinated, up at his uncle.
“What the hell did you do to my kids? Why aren’t they crying and screaming?”
“Hello to you too, little sis. Thanks for helping look after the munchkins, so I could make more of them with my husband.” I rolled my eyes at Trever’s impersonation of my voice.
“Thanks, Andrew.” I went by and kissed my brother’s cheek before going and scooping Cruz out of Trever’s arms. “Thanks, Trever.”
I sat down on the sofa next to Trever and slid the strap of my dress down.
“Argh, warn people before you just plop a boob out. I’m sitting right next to you. Seeing that will scar me for life.”
Ignoring Trever, I offered Cruz his breakfast and sighed when he latched on, and the ache eased. I looked over at Nathan on the floor, playing a game. “Make yourself useful, Nathan, and go get me a boomerang pillow.”
Nathan groaned, “You’re doing this because I didn’t have a baby.” I nodded and he started to get up, but my handsome husband came in with the pillow in question.
“Here we go, Angel.” I lifted Cruz and Braydon tucked the pillow around me. At Daddy’s voice, Blaine woke on a cry and Andrew rushed him over to me like he was hurt. I slipped down the other strap and Blaine didn’t need help; he found what he wanted and soon my breasts didn’t hurt.
Trever got off the sofa and huffed. “Again with the showing me your boobs, sis. It’s just gross.”
I rolled my eyes. “What did you think was going to happen when Blaine cried and Andrew brought him to me? I’m feeding my children, not flashing you.”
“At least warn me next time.” He stormed off.
“I’ll go tell everyone you’re here, so we can do presents.” I nodded, but Andrew was looking anywhere but at me.
“Sure.” I will admit, I enjoyed making my brother uncomfortable.
My family was amazing. My brothers came around to me being with Braydon. It was hard for them not to; all they had to do was watch how he treated me. I was one very lucky woman. When university had started this year, and I wasn’t sure if I would go, especially being pregnant, Braydon had told me he’d stick by me whatever decision I made, but if I did want to attend, he’d help me any way he could. I decided to give it a go, and Braydon supported me, so much so that he took leave from work so I could go back and finish the year while he stayed at home with the babies. He had brought them to the uni for me to feed twice a day every day. I couldn’t be more in love with my husband if I tried.
Braydon took Trever’s spot and leaned down to kiss each of our babies’ foreheads. I rested my head on his shoulder and gazed down at my children. My little boys were adorable replicas of their daddy.
“You did good, Ashlyn. They’re perfect, like you.”
I rolled my eyes. I’m far from perfect, but Braydon saw me with rose-colored glasses. I didn’t mind too much, because I saw him the same way. “Thank you.”
“Why are you thanking me, Angel?”
“Because you’ve given me all I ever wanted, and more. You make me fall more in love with you every day, and I just want to say thank you for being you.”
He chuckled, and I closed my eyes, savoring the deep sound. “You’re so damn easy to love. I’m the one who should thank you for taking a chance on a dirty old man like me.”
Shaking my head, I giggled. “I was the one who came onto you, remember?”
He smirked at me and picked up Cruz, who’d finished and was asleep. He placed him on his shoulder and burped him.
Gagging noises, and not from my children, had me realizing we weren’t alone. My brothers were back, along with the rest of our family.
“I love you, Ashlyn. Merry Christmas,” he whispered as they all filed in and took their seats, ready for present time.
I gazed around the room at all the people I loved, and my heart soared. I was beyond blessed. “I love you, too. Merry Christmas.”

About Hazel Gower
A mother of four, Hazel spends her spare time, the little she has, writing and taking off into her own worlds.
As a child, she spent a lot of time in her own dream world and even had an imaginary friend. In primary school, she would constantly make up stories, which got her into lots of trouble. Her mother said she always had an overactive imagination and would be the perfect writer.
Hazel started writing down her story ideas in high school and never really stopped. Writing is salvation.
After she’s cleaned up and gotten all the kids in bed, Hazel sits at her computer—or sometimes a notebook with a pencil—to relax, write, and escape.
Hazel loves to hear from any of her readers, so feel free to send her an email and ‘like’ her on Facebook.
