Monty, having carried out his duties as Best Man, was now at Lady Hartwell’s side, no doubt promising her that he would look out for her grandson on his forthcoming trip to Argentina.
Mr. and Mrs. Harker were there and Elissa knew that they had brought with them, safely wrapped up in card and brown paper, her father’s cherry tree painting, to grace the walls of her new home.
And in the back row of the pews, which had been assigned to the staff, Elissa caught a glimpse of Ellen.
Her eyes were shining with excitement from under the brim of her lace cap, and there too was Kitty, looking so proud at having travelled all the way from London to take up the position of housekeeper at their new home.
Elissa’s heart was filled with golden light as she saw so much joy all around her and she remembered how her Mama had come to her in a dream and told her that a great happiness would be hers.
She closed her eyes, knowing that surely Mama must be with her now at this, the most wonderful moment of her life.
Then she turned to her new husband, feeling the heavenly warmth of his hand in hers as they walked back down the aisle together.
“You have brought me such happiness,” she sighed.
“My darling Elissa – it is you who bring happiness wherever you go,” murmured Richard.
Elissa thought of the long green path that stretched away over the hill leading to the site of the new house, where the foundations were already being laid.
By the time they had returned from honeymoon, their beautiful home would be almost complete.
She suddenly realised that the path must always have been their very special trail to love, and she only had to follow it wherever it led to find the wonderful happiness her mother promised her.
They stepped out of the Chapel into the bright June sunshine into a shower of confetti.
Elissa’s heart and mind were filled with a vision of the joy and love that would be hers and Richard’s.
It would radiate out from them to light up the lives of all who knew them.
As he reached to take her in his arms and kiss her, she was enveloped in a Heavenly bliss so great it was beyond all her imaginings.
“This is ours, for now and all Eternity!” she cried, as at last he released her.
“Forever and ever, my Love!” he answered and led her forward into their new life together.
