“Okay, let’s meet at that spot where we ran into each other last night in about an hour. I’ll bring a picnic, and I’ll show you all my favorite spots to run in.” Anna can feel herself smiling as well. She really can’t help it when she’s with Jade; she can’t stay upset.
The three part ways as Anna hurries off to prepare herself. She knows her dad will be helping take inventory at the supermarket he owns in the middle of town, so she won’t have to be faced with him yet. She also knows that as close as she is to her dad letting him in on her revelation will be hard. Anna can’t wait for Olivia to arrive tomorrow so that she can tell her she’s finally imprinted on someone. She has no doubt that Olivia will be happy for her no matter what. She’s missed that feeling that comes with having an absolute confidant. It’ll be so good to see Olivia.
By the time Anna is starting up her driveway she feels much better than she did with the initial shock of her father’s decision. Deep down she knows he’s a just and fair man, this is why he is so good at being a pack leader and well loved by the members of the community. She’s also super excited about Olivia coming for a visit tomorrow and she can’t wait to be able to introduce Olivia and Jade to one another. However, above everything else, she’s beyond excited that in less than an hour she’ll get to spend hours with Jade getting to know her in both human and wolf form. For about the tenth time she tells herself everything is going to be okay and she hopes that she’s actually right.
Chapter 5
Fifty-five minutes after they last parted, Anna arrives at the very spot where she kissed Jade last night. Her excitement builds even farther when she sees Jade leaning against the trunk of a tree already waiting for her. The wide smile from ear to ear graces Anna’s face as she approaches. Jade seems lost in her own thoughts, and Anna is able to stealthily make it to a distance of only a couple of feet before Jade lazily opens her eyes and greets her with her own smile. She scrambles up and encases Anna in a hug.
“I guess I was kind of excited; I’ve been here like 20 minutes. I think I fell asleep for a little bit.” Jade stretches her arms over her head after letting go on Anna. A patch of skin is exposed as her t-shirt slides up while stretching, and Anna can’t help but stare at it with a tingly feeling invading her entire body.
“So, um, let’s walk up to this little grassy hill, it’s just about a 15 minute walk from here and then we can shift there.” Anna is a bit flustered just from watching Jade’s fluid movements and the occasional patch of skin that comes out for a sneak peek.
“Sure, lead the way.” Jade grabs Anna’s hand swings their arms back and forth as they walk deeper into the woods. Both of them carry a backpack on their backs. It’s important to always be prepared as a shifter, a change of clothes is a must as you never know when you will rip or tear something or even get your clothes wet or dirty. In Anna’s back pack is also two tuna salad sandwiches with some raw veggies, fresh fruit, and several bottles of water.
As the two walk, they talk about everything they can think of quickly giving each other the best education of the other that they can muster in 15 minutes of time. Birth signs, favorite foods, favorite colors, childhood memories, and family stories are all fodder for the proverbial cannon. Before the pair knows it, they are standing on top of the grassy hill where they’ve agreed to shift.
The nerves actually start to set in now more than they have since Anna met Jade. The first time they shift and interact as wolves is a really important event. Shifters have this connection that’s almost never achieved with a human. In wolf form, they will have a primal connection that they cannot achieve in their human form. They’ll be able to talk without talking, they’ll be able to feel each other’s emotions, and if they truly have imprinted, they’ll know it beyond doubt, they will be as one.
Anna stares into Jade’s eyes trying to convey everything that she’s feeling in the moments before the shift. They hold hands and Jade strokes Anna’s face with her other hand. “I’m scared too, I’m nervous, but I have no doubts about you, it hit me so hard when we met and then again when we kissed. I’m a goner; I’m yours.” Jade traces Anna’s lips with one finger before leaning in and kissing her with all the emotion Anna can even fathom.
After she is able to recover from the kiss, Anna whispers, “I’m ready.”
The pair keeps holding hands as they count to three together and the transformation begins to occur for both of them. Anna marvels as the old familiar feeling of shifting transforms into something new to her entirely. All the old feelings are still there, but they are accompanied by new ones as well. Her skin stretches taut, and her senses all heighten, but her heart beat begins to increase as well. Suddenly her mind is filled with all her own thoughts but also alongside them are Jade’s thoughts as well, she can feel the sensation of Jade’s heart beating. Overwhelmed by the closeness as their sides rub together as they run Anna silently tells Jade to follow her and pulls ahead. She runs at her top speed both to distance herself from the overwhelming feelings Jade elicits in her and to arrive at their destination sooner so that she can confront those feelings.
In a clearing, before they reach the incline that will take them to the waterfall they’ve been running toward, Anna is overcome with the need to touch Jade. She turns and playfully jumps at her, they spar trading playful hits until they are rolling around on the ground wrestling. With this comes a newfound urgency.
Anna climbs the incline faster than ever before with Jade right behind her. When they reach the flat, smooth rock right above the small waterfall, Anna shifts back to human form, and Jade follows suit. Anna does not wait any longer; the nervousness seems to have vanished as she quickly rips the blanket she has brought from her back pack and spreads it out over the rock. She pulls Jade on top of her and lowers herself to the blanket in one swift motion.
Instantly their lips are connected as they hungrily kiss. Anna’s hands explore every inch of the smooth skin covering Jade’s body, and she marvels at how different it is from the bristly hairs covering her while shifted. Both smooth skin and bristly hairs feel like heaven all the same. Jade squeezes both Anna’s breasts under the palms of her hands as Anna kisses Jade’s neck and shoulder. Jade straddles Anna and raises up over top of her stretching her back and moaning softly. Anna takes this opportunity to lean up capturing one of Jade’s nipples in her mouth and sucking on it. “I am taken by the most beautiful girl I’ve ever seen actually.” Anna plays along never stating the obvious.

“I was going to say I’m the lucky one but I take it all back, no one is lucky to get tickle torture.” Anna flails around beneath an unrelenting Jade.
Eventually, the two get dressed and eat the food that Anna has brought for them they talk more resuming the chat they were having earlier and finding out more and more about one another. Anna tells Jade about Olivia and how she can’t wait for them to meet. They both agree that they don’t want to carry on a secret for any amount of time. They want to tell everyone, and Anna wants Jade to be the one sitting beside her in the future when she takes her father’s position as pack leader. They sit on the edge of the rock watching the water rush beneath them with Jade behind Anna with her arms wrapped around her and Anna gently resting between Jade’s knees. When the first signs of dusk begin to hit, and the light filtering between the trees becomes dim, they reluctantly know that they have to head back.
They shift and run through the forest playing a game of tag of sorts until they come out on the road that they first met on. The two take the cover of the edge of the woods to shift back into human form and put on clothes for the first time in hours and hours.
Jade holds Anna’s hand, staring into the distance with a faraway look in her eyes. “You won’t give in, will you? If he takes it badly, you’ll fight for us, won’t you?” Jade’s eyes sparkle in the failing sunlight as though unshed tears are waiting to pour out.
“Yeah, of course. I’ve never even come close to this feeling. Jade, I’m not letting you go. And it’ll be you sitting beside me at council meetings in the same seat my mother used to sit in. I wouldn’t have it any other way, trust me.” Anna encircles Jade in her a tight hug then pulls back and places a gentle kiss on her lips.
Jade just kisses her back with a gusto that attempts to convey all the feelings she already has for Anna.
“Do you want to meet again early in the morning for a run together? I try to run every morning.” Anna excitement shows in her voice at the prospect of having Jade there with her first thing in the morning. “And then later, you have to meet Olivia, and if it’s okay, I’d really rather not wait to tell our parents that we want to be together, that we’ve imprinted on each other.” Anna smiles and brushes her fingers across Jade’s cheek.
“I’d love to. All of it. I agree with all of it.” Jade leans her face into Anna’s hand.
“It’s settled then.” Anna smiles and takes Jade's hand kissing her palm.
They finalize their plans in the dying light and reluctantly part ways for the night. Anna stands still and watches as Jade takes off through the woods on the path that will lead her to the other side where her house is. She pulls her phone from her backpack and sends a quick text to her dad that she is headed home. She doesn’t rush; she walks at a leisurely pace taking in the world after Jade. It is indeed a different world. There is more joy in the last calls of birds as they find their resting places for the night, more beauty in the sun sinking below the horizon, a settled feeling in her heart. There’s a completion she didn’t even realize she needed.
Chapter 6
Anna always wakes up with the sun. Sometimes she simply rolls over and goes back to sleep, but there’s no way that’s happening this morning. She has a very important meeting to get to. Trading the sweats, she slept in for black spandex capris and a fitted gray t-shirt she quickly heads out eager to see Jade again after a long night of not getting to see her.
When Anna arrives, Jade is nowhere to be seen. Anna stretches some while waiting. As she’s bent over stretching Anna feels two strong arms wrap around her back and a warm body pressed against her. “I’m sure it’s some kind of crime to be this sexy this early in the morning.” Jade’s whispered voice fills Anna’s ears.
Anna turns in Jade’s arms, and they share a long heated kiss immediately. Jade pushes Anna toward the forest walking her backward until she gently leans her against a tree. Anna gasps and then moans as Jade quickly attaches her lips to Anna’s neck.
“Spread your legs,” Jade commands Anna with a sexy growl in her voice. Anna lazily takes her phone from her pocket and looks at the time. “In about an hour.”
“I say cuddles trump a run. We could go for a midnight run later after everything is settled.” Jade draws lazy wide circles over Anna’s stomach.
“Dad’s gone out til the afternoon, come home with me while I get ready? Anna raises her eyebrows giving Jade a questioning look. “I’ll show you my room; my bed is big and comfy.” She winks playfully,
“Okay but know you risk being late to work. I can’t be held accountable.” A devilish smile graces Jade’s sweet features.
“I’m late a lot; I can handle it.” Anna pushes off the tree and springs to her feet offering Jade a hand. “Anyway, I can run as fast as a wolf when I want to.”
Both share a laugh and head off toward Anna’s house with their hands tightly clasped together. The day ahead of them offers a lot of unknowns, but they do know that they will face them all together. Anna becomes excited every time she thinks about having the Olivia home and having the opportunity to introduce her and Jade. There is still the task of telling their parents that they are together and that they have imprinted but Anna isn’t very nervous about it anymore. She can think back to before her mom passed away. As a child, she loved to be with both her parents able to bask in the glow that radiated from them because they had found each other. They had been lucky enough to find their true mate and had imprinted young. Now she has the same chance. She knows that when her dad sees the look in both her and Jade’s eyes, he’ll recognize it for what it is.
Anna’s house comes into
view and the two walk hands still intertwined toward the front porch and waiting front door with the newly risen sun at their backs, and their entire lives set out before them.
