Shattered Identity Page 20

by Sandra Robbins

  Dear Reader,

I hope you enjoyed Scott and Lisa’s story. I was particularly drawn to these characters, because I know so many people whose lives have been affected from things that have happened to them in the past.

Although we all suffer hurts and disappointments in life, God stands ready to replace those emotions with a peace that only He can give. Scott knew that, but it took him a long time to release the past and let God deal in his life.

If your life is ruled by the past, I would encourage you to read the Bible verse in the front of this book. The phrase, “for my strength is made perfect in weakness,” gives us the assurance that God’s love can overpower our doubts and fears. As new creatures in Christ, we can be free to live the life God wants for us.

I pray you can find that peace in your life.

  Questions for Discussion

Scott couldn’t forgive his aunt for keeping him from his family for years. Have you ever felt betrayed by a family member? How did you deal with it?

Lisa never knew her parents and wondered what they were like. Do you have unanswered questions about past events that affected your life? Have you attempted to find the answers that have evaded you?

Scott was fortunate to find three sisters he didn’t know existed and treasured his new family. Do you take time to tell your family how important they are to you and how much you love them?

When Lisa’s house was ransacked, she became frightened. Have you ever been the victim of a home robbery or vandalism of your property? How did you react?

Scott came home from the military as an emotionally-wounded veteran. Do you know men or women who suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder? How do you minister to them?

The man Lisa thought she loved in the past turned out to be a criminal who used her. Have you ever misplaced your trust in another person?

Scott agonized over his failure to save those he saw die in battle, and it caused him to feel unworthy of anyone’s love. Have you had experiences that made you feel undeserving of love? If not, have you ever known anyone who has?

In Lisa’s search for answers about her family, she encountered more than she expected. Have you ever discovered truths about family members or friends you wished you didn’t know? How did it affect your relationship with them?

Scott was willing to risk his life to save Lisa. Would you be willing to give your life for someone you loved? Would you be willing to place yourself in danger to help a stranger?

Lisa’s search for family revealed a father suffering from Alzheimer’s. Has anyone in your family been stricken with this disease? How do you cope with the health problems of those you love?

Lisa was able to forgive those who had taken so much from her life. Are you able to forgive people who have wronged you? What does the Bible teach about forgiveness?

God reminded Scott of a great truth when he encountered a herd of sheep on a dusty desert road. Do you know the One who gave His life for you?
