He walked her to the passenger side of the cab. Before they reached the door she leaned up. “Have you recovered, old man?”

Jake gave her a puzzled look and then his face cleared up. “You bet. And thank you, God, for king-sized beds.”

Laughing they headed back to the big house on Whitfield land. Not a prison, but a home that would be filled with laughter. She couldn’t wait until all the brothers were back. At least, no one would be shooting at them.

  CHAPTER TWENTY-SIX

Jake inhaled on his cigarette as he placed his heel on the porch rail. The occasional breeze cooled the sweat on his forehead. He needed to break the smoking habit, but it helped him think. For the last two weeks, he’d settled in Angel and Damien and kept in touch with his brothers. It had been a big relief to hear Sen’s voice. Though he never admitted it, he had been concerned about Sen. If he could’ve pulled the man through the phone and hugged him, he would have.

  “They’re late.”

Bringing the chair’s front legs down and placing both feet on the porch, he patted his lap. Angel walked over and sat, circling an arm around his neck.

“Yeah. Could be the traffic.” At that moment, a roar sounded down the long drive. Ethan sat on a mean-looking Harley, gunning the motor, probably to hear the roar of the engine and to scare the woman on the back. Her long brown hair flowed behind her. Jake barely recognized the manager of Scene 69. Karma. She was several years older than any of them. Seconds behind the motorcycle, a black Camaro sped down the drive, rumbling and slick-looking. Jake didn’t have to guess. Sen had talked about buying one for years. The window slid down. Yep. It was Sen with Tessa up front.

“I can’t wait to hear their stories,” Angel said with anticipation in her voice.

“Me, too. Then we’ll party. We all deserve it,” Jake said as he nodded. “The roof on the old place might fall in.” There had never been so much to celebrate. Hell, there had never been happiness in its walls.

Everyone seemed to be enjoying life again. Even his mom had stopped by and talked about planning a trip to the beach.

He kissed his wife. The woman of his heart.

Love was blossoming and filling the Whitfield place. Their home.
