“Yeah,” Verity said. “It is. I just wish we could have helped you out with your demon problem. But it sounds like you found a pretty good alternative.”
“Indeed I did,” he agreed.
“You planning to work with her again?” Jason asked.
“Don’t know. I suppose that’s up to her.”
“Well, it’s good to see you’ve got somebody else to help keep your feet on the ground, anyway,” he said with a grin.
“Yes, Raider’s gotten quite good at that,” Stone agreed.
Raider, for his part, glanced up, aimed a few slow, contented blinks in Stone’s direction, and leaped from Verity’s lap to his.
Stone picked him up under his front legs and stared into his wide green eyes. “You know, you’re not such a bad little beast after all. I think perhaps I will keep you. Must do something about that name, though, if you’re to be a proper mage’s cat. How do you feel about ‘Crowley’?”
