"Thank you for being so understanding. It came on me suddenly. I was fine one second and then sobbing the next." Ned crawled over to lie down next to Steve .
"Honey, I love you. And that's what postpartum depression is. Your hormones are out of whack as the pregnancy hormones are shut off. You will be in an emotional spin cycle for a while ."
Steve didn't want to think of how long that would go on. This pregnancy thing was not a walk in the park .
"I'll sleep now. I'm tired ."
"Good. You need sleep. You did all the heavy work. I think I'll take a nap too ."

S teve felt better about going to Henry and David's backyard than a public park. The backyard was more sheltered and there was no danger of rogue frisbees attacking them .
They were sitting on a quilt that Ned's mother gave them. It was a quilt that had been in their family. Steve didn't think they should put it on the ground, but should hang it on a wall. Ned's mother was insistent that it was just a practice quilt, and it was made for babies to be on. So, here it was on the grass in their friend's backyard .
Henry was sitting on the quilt with Elizabeth. She could crawl now. Her favorite destination was Penelope .
"She must think Penny is a big doll to play with ."
Henry laughed. "I think you're right. She gets so mad when I pick her up and take her away from her new toy ."
David and Ned were by the grill taking care of the steaks. Steve scooted and laid down on the quilt with Penny on his chest. He loved watching her eyes move around, trying to take it all in. Her thick black hair made her look like she was a few months old. It was so odd to think of babies growing hair when they weren't even born yet. He had never thought about it until he had his own baby .
"Aren't they a little miracle? I learned all of this in med school, none of it is new or a surprise. But experiencing it for myself is a different thing. It brings home what a miracle it is ."
"It is a miracle. And they have such strong personalities right when they're so little. They're little butterballs of joy ."
Henry lifted Elizabeth up and blew on her tummy. Her giggle was like heaven releasing joy into the world. Baby Penny even turned her head to look at the source of the noise .
"Hello everyone!" Penny walked over the wooden Japanese bridge to the backyard. "I can't wait to hold my little namesake !"
Steve smiled. He loved Penny's adoration of their baby, but he told Ned that he didn't like the look in her eye sometimes. He swore Penny would kidnap baby Penny one day and keep her .
Penny sat down on the edge of the quilt and held out her arms for Baby Penny. Steve lifted her off his chest and handed her over. Baby Penny would be spoiled rotten .
Steve was content to just lie down on the quilt and relax in the sun. It was nice to get outside. Ned was a great alpha. He knew what Steve needed .
Steve listened to the sounds of Elizabeth babbling, Penny cooing to Baby Penny, David and Ned talking by the grill. He smiled. Steve was the luckiest omega ever. He had the perfect family .
