Jack ran his hand over her pussy and the touch made her shake in anticipation. As she found his broad shoulders and dug her nails in, she was rewarded with his feral growl. His mouth was working her inner thighs as his finger gently pushed inside her cunt and started stroking. Anna moved her hips in time with his finger fucking. She screamed in delight as his mouth moved to her pussy. Anna writhed and wiggled as Jack licked and suckled her sensitive clit. His finger moved in and out, finding her sweet spot.
“Jack! Stop!” Anna called.
Anna was on the brink of the most powerful orgasm she’d ever experienced. Every nerve seemed to burn with his touch. Jack attached his mouth to her clit and sucked as he reached for her nipple and pinched. The slight pain was enough to send her over the edge as her body convulsed uncontrollably. He was relentless as he kept stroking her and sucking her clit. She had to beg him to stop. Jack laughed seductively as he continued teasing her body with his mouth. Anna was working to stop her body from shaking as he moved up. Anna knew she had to catch her breath otherwise Jack would render her unconscious.
“Mmm,” Jack growled as he kissed her.
Jack always knew how to keep Anna pinned with his powerful body without making her uncomfortable. The hard cock she felt against her body was in dire need of relief. It was her turn to make him crazy so she tried to push him backward, but he laughed at her efforts.
“No, my queen. The knight still has a move left,” Jack said.

Jack bent to indulge himself on Anna’s tasty neck when somewhere in the distance he heard a soft vibrating. What the hell? Shit! It was his damn phone and it was in his shirt pocket somewhere on the bed. He moved his hand in the direction of the vibration and located the shirt and pulled it toward him.
“Jack, no. Let it go,” Anna whispered against his mouth. “Stay with me.”
Jack momentarily lost his sanity because that simple proposition was the most powerful one that any woman had ever made him. He knew his wife, and what was about to take place would be a serious mind-blowing fuck or blow job. The phone briefly stopped.
“I can’t, baby. It’s work,” Jack said.
What the hell was he saying? Jack momentarily gained some balance because it didn’t matter what kind of raging hard-on he had. It was the call to duty and no matter how inconvenient it was, he always answered. The damn ringing and vibrating started again. It had to be Mac, fucker never left voice mail. The bastard just kept calling until Jack answered. He blindly retrieved the phone as he continued kissing Anna.
“Please, Jack, let it go. For me,” Anna urged as she nibbled his earlobe once more.
Jack started to throw the phone across the room and plunge his aching dick into Anna’s eager pussy. She was making his life very difficult and if he gave her any leeway, he would be on his back with all of his clothes off and her fucking him like there was no tomorrow. He was having a serious conflict at the moment. He could let her have her way and say he was “tied up” when he finally answered Mac. No! No ropes!
Anna’s body underneath him was a powerful piece of persuasion, especially given the fact that he hadn’t been able to fuck her in almost a week. The phone stopped again and promptly picked up just as quickly.
“What the fuck?” Jack snarled into the phone. “Jesus! Mac! Somebody better be dying!” He growled.
Anna buried her head in Jack’s shoulder and he kissed her softly.
“Drop your cock and grab your socks, boss. We got something that needs your attention PDQ,” Mac quipped.
“Don’t I have a fucking XO? Where the fuck is he?” Jack demanded. “I’m on leave the rest of this week, remember?”
“XO’s been in a really bad accident. They’re rushing him to BAMC as we speak. He may not make it.”
“Are you kidding me?” Jack exclaimed.
“No, sir, Skipper. Base Ops just called me. He’s banged up pretty bad. If it hadn’t have been for ID they might not have known who he was. Apparently it happened on his way home from the ball.”
“I’ll meet you at BAMC,” Jack said. He heard Anna’s frustrated sigh as he ended the call. He kissed her deeply and said. “Don’t move. I’ll be right back.”

Before Anna could move Jack had dressed and was gone. She got up and took a shower. Anna went downstairs and made herself a cup of tea. She making every effort she could to control her temper that was threatening to detonate. She couldn’t believe Jack would just get up and leave in the middle of their lovemaking. She was getting angrier by the second as she sipped her tea and slowly climbed the stairs to the bedroom. She felt cheap and used at the moment and couldn’t believe she heard herself begging him not to leave. He had anyway and managed to not only leave but discard her like a dirty rag. Anna cursed him as she threw back the covers and settled in. What the hell was she doing here?
Anna slept in fitful frustration. All night she couldn’t get comfortable and when she finally did sleep something roused her almost as fast as she’d fallen asleep.
What the hell? I can’t breathe!
It took her another moment to realize Jack had come to bed and wrapped himself around her. He was holding her so tight she felt as if she were in a vise grip. She knew he was sleeping because she could hear his slow, heavy breathing. She tried to move away but in his sleep he pulled her back to him, pinning her underneath him.
“Jack!” Anna whispered.
Now she really was pissed because she couldn’t get him off. Anna finally threw a sharp elbow to Jack’s ribs.
“Jack! Get off me! I can’t breathe!” Anna demanded.
Jack jolted awake at the rude jab to his ribs. He half woke up. “What the hell did you do that for?”
“Get off me! I can’t breathe!” Anna harshly snapped.
Jack released her. “I’m sorry, baby. Are you okay?” he asked concerned.
“Just get off me!” Anna demanded pushing his roaming hand away.
Jack ignored her outburst. “I love you so much, baby,” he whispered as he kissed her shoulder, turned over, and fell back asleep.
Anna got up and went downstairs to the kitchen. Now she was really aggravated with him. The damn nerve! He was really beginning to irritate her. Was he expecting to come and pick up where he’d left off? He really is an arrogant bastard!. His damn job always came first and Jack had made that very clear last night. Why the hell should she do all the work in this marriage? Anna slammed the cupboard that housed the coffee. She’d hardly slept last night because all she could think about was how she always reacted when he touched her. She’d asked him to stay. The thought made her face flush with embarrassment. No, she’d begged.

Jack was semiconscious when he took a deep breath. Ah, he could smell her. Anna, baby! The bed was warm and soft. He reached out without opening his eyes and frowned because she was gone. He raised his head and opened his because he knew she was here just a minute ago. He listened briefly and heard the cupboard door slam. Jack got and put on his pajama bottoms so he could go downstairs and finish what he’d started last night.
“Good morning,” Jack said behind her as he pulled her close, kissing along the delectable curve of her neck.
“Good morning, Jack,” she answered stiffly, attempting to disengage herself from him.
“Why didn’t you wake me up? Let’s go back upstairs and finish what we started, baby,” Jack said, again grinding himself into her.
Anna pulled away, but Jack held fast kissing her.
“Stop it!” Anna snapped.
“What’s wrong?” Jack asked with a frown, releasing her. She was really pissed.
“Don’t bother taking leave. I can find my way to Kingsville without you. I wouldn’t want the Navy to quit running while you’re gone.”
“Anna, I can’t go to Kingsville. I need to tell you that—”
“Of course not,” Anna cut him off. “Get back to work Jack. Your country needs you.”
“W
hat the hell’s wrong with you?”
“You! You don’t want a wife. You want a maid you can fuck!” Anna shouted.
“Jesus Christ, Anna! Somebody’s dead! I had to go to the morgue at BAMC to identify a body! Do you think I was playing a game with you last night?” Jack demanded.
“It’s always something, Jack!” Anna retorted turning her back on him.
Jack felt like he’d just been slapped. In fact, it would have hurt a whole lot less if Anna had reached up and actually slapped him. Her words and body language were ice cold. Jack couldn’t believe the depth of Anna’s callousness. He stepped away from her and said nothing as he left the kitchen. Thirty minutes later, he came back with his travel bag packed. Jack looked at her angry expression,
“I’ve got to go to Virginia to escort Rafe’s body home. I don’t know when I’ll be back.”
Chapter 42
En route to Dulles International Airport
Arlington, Virginia
October 20, 2008/2201 Zulu
Jack sat looking out of the windows of the 727 that was taking the escorts as well as the casket back to Virginia. He couldn’t push what had happened between him and Anna out of his mind. Mac, ever aware, leaned in and stared out the same window.
“About another hour, boss, and we’ll be there,” Mac informed.
“Yeah,” Jack answered absently.
“What’s up? The wing about catch fire?”
“No,” Jack said shortly.
“So what’s up?”
Damn Cajun never could mind his own business, Jack thought with some annoyance. “Nothing, Mac, just thinking.”
Mac smiled knowingly. “About your lady? She sure was pretty last night. You wouldn’t have known that when she first started working there. Boy! Anna sure has blossomed since you two got married.”
“Drop it, Mac,” Jack said, gazing out of the window.
Jack needed to talk but didn’t know where to start. Anna had hurt him, and this was a whole new feeling. He didn’t know what to say, and he sure as hell didn’t want to talk about it on a crowded flight to Arlington, Virginia.
“Is everything okay?” Mac asked.
“It’s complicated,” Jack said.
“So, what’s complicated?” Mac asked more out of curiosity than concern.
Mac started chuckling.
“What the hell’s funny?” Jack demanded.
“If you miss her all that bad, why don’t you fly her up here,” Mac said with a sadistic smile. “Lizzy’s coming just as soon as we find out the arrangements.”
“That ain’t happening,” Jack said ruefully.
Mac’s sharp sniper senses honed in. “Why the hell not? The command master chief’s wife can come, why not the commanding officer’s?”
“Mac, just drop it,” Jack said shortly.
“Jack, are you okay? You two seemed like things were going all right,” Mac said seriously.
Jack’s lips tightened as he kept silent, and glared out the window. What part of not now did Mac not get?
“I’ve seen the way you look at her when you think no one’s looking. You’ve always looked at her that way,” Mac continued.
“Mac, drop it, please,” Jack said with all the restraint he could muster. “Do I tell you how to deal with Liz?” Mac said nothing. “Then don’t tell me how to deal with Anna. I know what the hell I’m doing.”
“Really?”
“Mac, stop.”
“I seem to recall you were full of advice before you actually got married. Not as easy as you thought, huh?”
Jack fumed silently. Mac decided on another approach.
“Jack, Anna’s like a fine Corvette, classy but high maintenance. And when you finally get to drive it, you know it’ll be one hell of a ride. Unless you’ve decided to trade her in…” Mac shrugged.
Jack’s look turned dark. “Jesus! Mac! Will you shut up already? Mind your own fucking business!”
* * * *
Mac smiled inwardly. This boy was involved up to his eyeballs. Mac guessed that Anna had given a whole new meaning to the word complicated in Jack’s vocabulary. He leaned back in his seat and relaxed.
Rafe’s parents were waiting at the airport in the terminal when they exited the plane. Jack spotted them instantly. He wasn’t surprised they had managed to meet in the terminal. Congressman and Mrs. Wilson were very stoic as they greeted their son’s escorts.
“Captain O’Malley?” Congressman Wilson asked as he approached.
“Congressman Wilson,” he said as he took the man’s hand, “this is my command master chief, Will McGuire.”
“Master Chief, Captain, my wife, Kathy,” the congressman said.
“Gentlemen. Thank you for coming and bringing Rafe home,” Mrs. Wilson said.
“It’s an honor, ma’am,” Mac said.
They walked through the terminal and discussed the arrangements. Rafe would be buried at Arlington National Cemetery. The visitation for Rafe wouldn’t be for another two days, and the burial would be the day after. Mac peeled off from the group to call Liz and fill her in on the details.
“Call Anna and give her the details, Lizzy,” Mac said before hanging up.

The Wilsons left the pair with an invitation to dinner later that night. They had, of course, accepted. Jack was still very distracted because he was thinking about Anna and everything that had happened right before he left. The more he thought about it, the angrier he got. Who the hell did she think she was married to? She knew better than anyone exactly what Jack did. When he and Mac reached the counter for their rental cars, he’d made up his mind. This marriage wouldn’t work. She was spoiled brat and he didn’t need her kind of crap while he was trying to do his job. He decided to take Anna’s advice and get that lawyer as soon as he got home.

Liz called Anna the minute she hung up the phone with Mac. Anna had asked her for the details so that she could at least send some flowers. As she drove, she wondered just why Anna wasn’t going along to be with Jack. When she arrived she called Anna from the main gate.
“Anna? Liz. Hey, Billy just called me with the details. I’m here at Randolph. Can I drop by?”
“Sure! I’m here. I don’t go in until late. I’ll see you in a few,” Anna said.
Liz stopped in front of the house that Jack and Anna shared. She looked at the front door before she stepped out. Something wasn’t right.
“Come in, Liz,” Anna said, opening the door wider.
Liz followed her into the kitchen and made herself at home at a stool that sat at the end of the island in the middle of the kitchen.
“Do you want something to drink?” Anna asked.
“Sure, some water would be great. Can we talk for a minute?”
* * * *
Before Anna knew it, she’d packed and was on a plane with Liz to Rafe’s funeral in Virginia. Anna was quiet the whole trip. Jack wasn’t expecting her, and she was concerned about how they’d work this out. As she and Liz had talked in the kitchen, she realized just what a bitch she’d been.
Anna thought about what she would do once she saw Jack and thought she had a plan, but as the time drew closer and as the plane started its descent, her resolve started to disintegrate. Liz must’ve sensed her stress because she took Anna’s hand.
“So, how are you and Jack getting along?” Liz asked.
“God! Liz! I think I’ve really messed up. I tried calling him last night and before we left and he didn’t answer and hasn’t called back. He’s never done that to me,” Anna blurted.
“Want to talk about it?”
“I don’t even know where to start,” Anna said, looking out the window.
“What happened yesterday?” Liz asked.
“We were supposed to go to Kingsville to visit my grandparents and this happened. I was so damn pissed that he couldn’t go and I said some things about his job coming first. When I think about the way he looked at me…I’m just so frust
rated that he’s gone all the time,” Anna said, releasing a deep breath.
“I understand how you feel. Wait until the first remote.”
“What?”
“A remote tour. He’ll be gone for at least a year. It’s gotten better with the Internet. But I wouldn’t hear from Billy for months. At least they’re not in combat anymore…” Liz said as Anna shook her head. “Anna, you worked with them for a while. You know what they do. Why did you get angry? Really?”
“I don’t know, Liz.”
Liz was casually flipping through a magazine, and Anna was staring at the seat in front of her.
“You know, Jack once told me the reason why he never got married. I think everyone that knows him was shocked when he married you. I wasn’t. I knew exactly why he did it,” Liz said.
No, you don’t. Anna thought about the real reason they initially married. She looked at Liz. “Why?” Anna asked.
“He said he didn’t think anyone would ever understand his job and why he did it,” Liz said, closing her magazine and placing her hand on Anna’s arm. “I think he thought you were the one woman who did understand. He felt like someone had finally accepted him for who he was. For Jack, that’s huge.”
“Liz, if you’re trying to make me feel better, it’s not working.”
“I’m sorry, Anna.” Anna started to speak, but Liz continued, “These are not average men. They don’t work from nine to five and stay home on weekends to mow the lawn and coach Little League. But when they’re home there’s no doubt that you are the most important thing in their lives. You are his lifeline. When he’s gone and doing his job, you are the reason he wants to come home. You’re married to Superman and every time there is a cry for help, he’s leaving you and answering the call. Remember who he comes back to.” Liz said squeezing her arm.
