In one fluid motion he stood up, and then reached down to help her up onto her feet. They watched each other undress, their desire for each other rapidly building in their eyes.

“There is just no sexy way to take off boots is there?” she quipped.

He laughed. “I don’t think so. How about we help each other with that?”

“I’ll help you first,” she said as she urged him down onto the blanket with her hands.

“Hold on, let me loosen them up for you.” He used the toe of his boot to push the heel free. The boots came off without any trouble. He stripped off his socks, pants, and underwear while still on the blanket. “Your turn.” He rose with the lithe grace of a mountain lion. He swooped her into his arms and lowered her to the blanket, kneeling beside her.

“Damn, you’re fast and so strong. You picked me up as if I weighed five pounds.”

“You weigh hardly anything at all.”

“Bullshit,” she disagreed. The pinch on her ass had her yelping. “Why’d you do that?” She rubbed the tender spot.

“You know how I feel about foul language.”

  “That was foul language?”

“Foul enough to get you a pinch.” Smiling he pulled off her boots and socks. “Lift up.” The jeans were tugged off next.

“What if I were to say, ‘Come over here and fuck me.’ Would that be foul language?”

“No, that would be sexy language.”

“I take it you like sexy language.”

“During sex those words are hot, that’s where they belong. They kick up the heat level.”

“Good to know. I want to kick up the heat level now.” She unhooked her bra. “Come and suck my tits.”

“With pleasure.” His fingers encased her breasts. “They’re so fucking big. They barely fit in my hands.”

“They feel small in your hands. I like it. It makes me feel feminine. Usually I feel like a sex object.”

“You aren’t a sex object to me.”

“That’s why this is special. It’s about sex and love.” Should she admit what she was feeling? He’d said so much to her, so many things that she’d needed to hear. Maybe he needed to hear them, too. “I have feelings for you, too. I think I’m falling in love with you and it scares me.”

“It seems that we both have trust issues. Maybe we can get over them together. Let’s give each other a chance. My heart is telling me this will work.”

He smiled that heartwarming smile that stripped away her defenses.

  “So is mine.”

Harold’s fingers squeezed her breasts and his thumbs circled across her nipples, making them harden and perk up. “If I remember correctly you asked me to suck on these pretty babies.”

“I seem to remember putting in that request.”

“I wouldn’t want to let you down…after all, we’re building trust here.” He chuckled as he lowered his mouth to the perky buds.

His lips felt divine and when he pulled the areola into his mouth, scintillating cords of delight shot down her middle, making her pussy drip with anticipation. “That feels good. My pussy will appreciate the same attention.”

“All in good time.” One of his hands began to explore her body, its calloused palm warm and gentle on her skin.

Closing her eyes she listened to the whispering leaves. “Yes, it should be called the Whispering Wood,” she said, sighing whimsically.

“Then it will be our Whispering Wood.” Warm breaths preceded his lips and tongue as they made their way southward toward her throbbing cunt. “We will have to remove these now.” His teeth lifted the string of her thong and then released it. His thumb slipped under the string and tugged. She lifted her buttocks from the blanket. The thong was removed with a slow, caressing hand down her leg. Soft lips kissed their way to her feet, his body followed. Kneeling at her feet, he moved his palms up her calves and inside her thighs.

  “Open up for me.”

She spread her legs. His nostrils flared, and his eyes engaged hers. She’d never seen such a look before, desire and lust mixed with sweet adoration. If she hadn’t been in love with him before, she was now. That look expressed his love and desire for her, it made her feel cherished. He lowered his head and dipped his tongue into her throbbing pussy. She sucked in a breath and moaned as he teased her love bud.

“I take it you like that.”

“Oh, yeah. It makes me hot.”

“It makes me hot for you, too.” He rose and straightened, standing on his knees. “See.” He stroked his long, curved shaft.

“I wanted to take this slow, it feels so special, but looking at your cock so ready to fuck me, I don’t think I can. I want you inside me. I need you inside me.”

He leaned over toward his discarded jeans. Fumbling in a pocket, he pulled out a condom.

“Were you a Boy Scout or something?”

  “Why?”

“You always seem to be prepared with one of those.”

“What would’ve happened if I didn’t have one?”

“I would have given you the one I carry.”

  “Girl Scout?”

“No, a professional requirement.” She smiled. “I always use my own.”

“Then, I’d say we had it covered.” His eyebrows wiggled, bringing attention to the double meaning.

She chuckled. “I can’t remember ever laughing during sex.”

  “Is that a good thing?”

“It makes you very special, so…yeah, I’d say it’s a good thing.”

He smiled at that. “I’m glad I’m special to you, because you are special to me.”

“Well, put that thing on so we can do something really special, like make love. I want you to fuck me until I come all over your cock.”

“I love it when you talk dirty. It makes me want to fuck your cunt until you scream.”

  “Make me scream, handsome.”

He fed his cock into her hot, wet pussy. He groaned when he was buried to the hilt. “You are so fucking hot,” he said in a tortured whisper.

“You feel amazing.” He pumped her two times and her pussy twitched, her hips moved up to meet the thrusts. “I’m coming,” she said as her nails dug into his back.

“Good, come for me, baby. Come for me alone, for the rest of your life.” He pumped her cunt with long, slow strokes while he gazed into her eyes. “You are mine now. Mine and mine alone.”

The possessive tenderness of the words created a tear in her eyes. “Yes, only yours.”

Those words seemed to ignite an uncontrollable passion in him. His pace quickened. His eyes darkened and glazed over.

“Fuck me,” she said. “I’m going to come, come with me.”

His breathing was ragged. He seemed lost in his passion. “Fuck,” he cried. His body stiffened above her as he came. His face contorted with agony and ecstasy.

She could feel his cock pulsing its release. The feeling was so sweet she was compelled to join him. She’d never felt this way during sex before, not even with Eli. This must be love. She felt so connected with this man.

Their breathing returned to a normal rate, and still he didn’t pull away from her. She relished the closeness. Her lips spread into a smile. As she opened her eyes, his smiling face filled her view.

“That was fucking wonderful,” he said.

  She slapped his ass.

  “What was that for?”

“If you can spank me for foul language, I’m going to do the same.” The tip of her finger poked him in the chest.

“Fair enough, but that was still sexy dirty language. So you owe me a spanking. Apparently spanking you turns me on, so be ready for me to fuck your brains out right afterward.”

“I look forward to it. Now, move over because I have a stone, or something, pressing into my back, and now I’m famished.”

“I’m hungry, too. I will have to keep up my strength for dessert. Which, by the way, will be you.”

  Chapter 8

  “Now, that’s a sight
for sore eyes. I knew it would happen, they just needed a nudge in the right direction.” Nadine watched Mika and Harold walking toward the house. The saddlebags were slung over one of Harold’s shoulders and held firmly in place by his hand. Mika was tucked snugly under his arm on the other side. They wore matching smiles. Mika’s arm was around Harold’s waist. They walked happily in sync with each other.

Hugo came up behind his wife as she looked out of the kitchen door. He slipped his arms around her waist. “You’re feeling pretty smug, aren’t you?” The words were accentuated by a gentle hug.

“Rightfully so, I’d say.” She squeezed her husband’s hands.

He put his chin on the top of her head and nodded his agreement. “They look happy.”

“It’s about time, if you ask me. Harold’s been miserable far too long, and Mika? Well, I think that girl is ready to make some changes in her life. Look at how much she’s changed since she’s been here.”

“She has lost some of her rough edges,” Harold agreed.

“I think she’s remembering who she really is, and is getting back in touch with what’s truly important in life.”

“I suppose life in a city as big as New York could make a person hard and defensive, especially if it’s a woman. I think she’s acted that way to protect herself. Nadine, I don’t want you delude yourself. Mika was a prostitute in New York, she’s as much as told me so.”

Nadine turned her head to look up at her husband. “Do you think that will make a difference to Harold?”

“Does it make a difference to you?”

“I’m willing to look past it, but men can be funny about things like that.”

Hugo chuckled and gave her a squeeze. “Some of us can. But I think we’ve raised our son with an open mind. If he can’t get past it, then he doesn’t deserve her.”

“Everyone deserves a chance to change their lives. I think Mika took a wrong turn way back when and has had trouble finding the right road ever since.”

Hugo snorted. “You know something…I found her on Tanner’s Highway near that old end detour sign. The Lord works in mysterious ways.” On the wings of a sigh, he smiled out-loud.

“I believe she was sent to us to help us, and to help herself. I think she may have found the right path.”

At the dinner table, Harold tapped Nate’s shoulder. “Mind if I sit here, Buddy?”

“Buddy?” Nate’s startled face looked up, and then he stood, pushing the chair back as he did so. “You feeling okay? Since when am I your buddy?”

“I guess I should apologize for the way I’ve been treating you,” Harold muttered.

“Apologize? To me? Did I hear you right?” Nate’s shocked expression disappeared as he looked down at Mika, and then back at Harold. “I get it now. No problem, Buddy, she’s already told me where I stand with her.”

Nate put his hand on Harold’s shoulder and leaned close. “I wish you luck. She’s really a nice person. I’m surprised it’s taken you this long to figure it out,” he whispered in Harold’s ear before he moved away.

He looked at Nate strangely. Nate was being civil and he didn’t have to be. It made Harold ashamed of the way he’d treated him in the past. He was going to have to try to rectify that. Maybe he’d misjudged Nate.

  Harold nodded, “Thanks,” he said.

“It’s nice sitting next to Mika. You’re going to like it Uncle Harold. She always smells good, and she’s funny, too,” Billy said.

“Why didn’t you tell me sooner?” Harold smiled at Billy and winked at Mika.

Billy leaned forward so he could see around Mika. Cupping his hand around the side of his mouth, he whispered, “I thought you were mad at her. You always said mean things to her.”

  “I did, didn’t I?”

  Billy nodded. “Uh huh.”

Harold leaned in front of Mika, too. Lowering his head conspiratorially, he asked, “Do you think she’ll forgive me?”

Billy looked up at Mika. Mika nodded. “I think so,” Billy whispered.

“Should I ask her now?” Another nod from Billy. Harold straightened up to a sitting position. Taking Mika’s hand, he asked, “Can you forgive me for being so mean to you? I promise to make it up to you.” Her hand felt so right in his, so he did what was in his heart. He lifted it to his lips.

Mika gasped. Apparently she hadn’t expected him to express his feelings so openly.

“I think you scared her, Uncle Harold.”

“He didn’t scare me, Billy, he surprised me.” She squeezed Harold’s fingers and smiled at him.

“I hope to continue surprising you for a long time.” He was going to put his heart out there. He had to let her know she was important to him.

“I see that you two came to some kind of understanding on your ride today,” Nadine said.

His mother looked happier than he’d seen her in a very long time. The smile on her face was a good sign. He hadn’t seen her look like this since Cecily announced her wedding engagement.

This morning he’d had a feeling that his mother had an ulterior motive for the picnic today. He couldn’t quite figure out how she had known about his feelings for Mika when he hadn’t had a clue.

Hugo reached over and squeezed his wife’s hand. The twinkle in his father’s eyes and the knowing smile told Harold his father was as aware as his mother. Harold glanced at Nate and Cyrus. Had they known, too? No, the two men didn’t appear to be sharing his parents’ private joke.

“We talked things over,” Harold responded.

  Nadine snorted. “Talked?”

“Yes, Mother, talked.” He released Mika’s hand self-consciously and then reached for it again.

At this point he didn’t care who knew how he felt. He and Mika had a connection. Putting the sex aside, and that was difficult to do because sex was so much better with the connection they shared, he had discovered that he actually liked her as a person. He hadn’t lied when he’d said he was falling in love with her. He just hadn’t realized how deeply.

  “And kissed.”

Another sharp intake of breath from Mika. He patted her hand.

“Can’t you tell? My parents know about us, and they like the idea,” he said, hoping to put her at ease.

“You kissed Mika?” Billy asked. “I’ve kissed Mika, too. Sometimes she’ll kiss me goodnight. She kisses good, doesn’t she?”

“That she does, Billy, that she does.” Mika was tugging trying to get her hand free. “I think we’re embarrassing her. Maybe we should stop talking about Mika’s kisses.” He pressed her hand to his lips again before he released it.

“So then, Mika, have you decided to stay with us?” Hugo asked. The look on his father’s face matched the hopeful expression his mother wore.

“I, um.” She took a breath. She worried her bottom lip with her teeth and her face showed concern. “I’ve started to think about it. I don’t want to impose on your hospitality. You’ve been so kind to me already.”

“Nonsense,” Nadine admonished. “To the contrary…if you leave we will be heartbroken. You’ve been here only a short while, but you’ve already become part of the family. I miss female companionship. You’ve become the daughter I lost.” Her smile was filled with sadness, but there was also a hint of hope playing at the corners of her mouth. “All of us want you to stay.”

Cyrus, a man of few words, cleared his throat. “The Missus is right. You have brought welcome changes to this house.” The only person at the table not astounded by Cyrus speaking was Billy.

Harold spent that meal and every meal afterward sitting next to Mika.

  Chapter 9

“It’s been three weeks. I have to go back. There are things I need to take care of.”

  “Like what?”

“Harold, be reasonable. I have some personal belongings that I want to get.” Shamika flipped the bacon that was sizzling in the frying pan. Its aroma filled the kitchen with a homey and appetizing scent. Her stomach growled.

  “Are
you talking about clothes? If your clothes are anything like what you were wearing when you arrived, you don’t need them.” He made a face that showed his distaste.

“Thanks for the vote of confidence regarding my fashion sense.” She elbowed him in the ribs. “For your information, those were my work clothes. I had to maintain a certain persona to live up to the expectations of my clients. Men expect the ‘working girl’ to look a certain way. It’s not my fault the other prostitutes have bad taste in clothing.”

Harold rubbed his ribcage. “Thank God.” Dimples appeared on his freshly shaved face. His smile was infectious.

Shamika waved the fork she used to turn the bacon at him. “Very funny. It’s not just about my clothes. I have to let my landlord know I won’t need the apartment anymore. He’s been good to me over the years. I won’t feel right just disappearing, he’ll worry. I have my bank account to attend to, and a few people I wouldn’t mind saying goodbye to. No one important, but when people disappear we tend to think the worst.”

  “We?”

  “Acquaintances in the business.”

Harold moved behind her and wrapped his arms around her waist, he squeezed as he lowered his lips to her neck. “I’d rather you didn’t.”

“Didn’t go, or didn’t say goodbye?”

His warm breath sent tremors of delight down her spine.

  “Both.”

She turned the burner off and pushed the pan of bacon to the back of the stove, and then turned in his arms to face him. “What can I do to make you feel better about this?”

Harold pressed his pelvis into her.

  “Besides that?”

  “Consider marrying me.”

  “What?”

“I might feel better about it if we were to be married.”

“So, you just proposed to me?” Her heart swelled with the love she felt for this man.

“Sort of, I want you to know how strongly I feel about you. If you need to think it over, I won’t push to do it right away, we can have a long engagement if you’d like. I just need to know that you will come back to me.”

Nadine entered the kitchen. “Is Mika going somewhere?”

Harold released Mika and stepped away from her. “Mika wants to go back to New York.”
