When he returned to the apartment Kay was in her rocking chair reading a book. She didn’t say a word or even look up as he entered, and she responded to his questions and comments with frosty politeness, an attitude she maintained the rest of the evening. She retired early with no explanation.

The lack of further questions about Solace left him more worried than relieved. Kay hadn’t forgotten; she never forgot a thing. More likely, she was deferring her next move until she had thought things through more carefully.

She wasn’t the only one. Solace’s reappearance had led Reynard to completely reconsider his own plans. Perhaps he shouldn’t be in such a hurry to crack the mystery of the Black Cathedral and split Colbon. After all, he had been aching to bang that sexy brown body for over three thousand years. Of course, now that she knew he was married, seducing her would be tricky. But not impossible. Impossibility was only a failure of the imagination.
