She must have looked as intense as she felt because he straightened up a little bit, and the smile wasn’t as wide as before.
“Whatever it is, just ask. We have no secrets from each other, Jessica. At least, I don’t think so.”
“What kind of shifter am I?”
He looked at her a little strangely. “What?”
“I'm serious, Trevor; what kind of shifter am I? If you know me like you say you do, then you will know what to say.”
Trevor chuckled. “Of course, I know what you are. Do you know what you are, Jess? You’re a bear. We’ve run these woods many times together.”
Jessica smiled and he asked her why that was so important.
“It just is.” She paused.
“So, one more question.”
He smiled. “Anything.”
“How do you know that this is your baby?”
Another grin. “Because we were together right before you left.”
“Yeah, but I could have been with someone else.”
“That’s impossible, Jessica. I was your first, and as you know, the highest chance is that it’s mine. I don’t care if you were with another man after you were taken. You did what you had to do.”
“It wasn’t like that. I said your name once when he tried and that killed it for him, I guess. He never really tried again.”
Relief washed over Trevor’s face. “I wanted to be the only one that touched you, ever.”
They kissed for a moment, and she was stunned into silence when he pulled away. Jessica had made up her mind, and it had only taken two answers and one hell of a kiss.
Jessica felt her guard going down. It felt right, and whatever kind of potion he had, she wanted it. Jessica didn't want to go another day without knowing her past. She didn't want to live unknowing anymore. Jessica wanted to remember her life with Emily and Trevor. She had a feeling it was the life that she was looking for.
Chapter Twenty-Five
Trevor handed Jessica the potion and told her the instructions that were given to him. She had to drink it, and then she would most likely pass out for a few hours. It would take that long for the magic to work in her brain to restore everything that was taken. He didn't even pretend like he knew how it worked, just that he was ready for her to remember him. It was hard to have a romance when the other person didn’t even remember being with him.
“What if this doesn't work?”
He told her that she shouldn't worry about it. “Trust me, it's going to work.”
She hesitated another few seconds before she downed the potion and sat down on the couch. She wondered how long it would take her to start feeling woozy.
“What if this does not work? What if I never remember anything again?”
“It is going to be fine trust me. I have a good feeling about this.”
Finally, Jessica smiled, and her eyelids were starting to get heavy. “Well, I'm definitely starting to feel something, but nothing to do with the past. I feel like I'm floating over the world and nothing can touch me now.”
Her eyes floated closed, and he watched her lie down, soon completely out. Emily walked in about that time, and she looked concerned.
“Is she going to be okay?”
He agreed that she was. “She just needs to remember us again, that's all.”
Emily smiled. “And then once she remembers, are you going to ask her?”
He looked at her confused for a moment, not sure what she was talking about. “Ask her what?”
“You know, if she wants to be my new mom. She's going to say yes, I just know it.”
While Trevor knew that it probably wasn't wise to take love advice from his daughter, he was going to do exactly that. He wanted to marry her. He’d thought about it for a while, and once they were back together, there were no more reasons to wait.
If he had learned anything from the last few months, it was that life was short, and things could be taken away in a moment. He wasn’t going to waste any more time.
Jessica opened her eyes, and she had tears welling up. How could she have forgotten all of that? Her life flashed before her eyes, and every pain and heartache that she’d had was being felt then.
Her family was gone, but she’d somehow found another one. She’d found a man that loved her and a little girl that she loved. Jessica felt waves of emotions rolling through her, and it literally took her breath away. She wanted to breathe, but it was hard to. How could she have forgotten her life?
There were still questions that she had, many, but she knew that it would all work out. Jessica looked at Trevor. He was sleeping in a chair next to her, probably waiting for her to wake up.
She studied the hard lines of his face, softened in his slumber. Jessica felt that surge of love go through her. As much as she had questioned everything when she’d woken up with Nick, Trevor was different. The life that they had just started was the sort of life that she wanted badly. It was the one she was looking for.
“Trevor?”
He jerked, and his dark eyes popped open, meeting hers. “You’re up.” Are you, you?”
She smiled and nodded her head. She was still feeling a bit out of it, but that was to be expected.
“Yes, I’m me. And I’m glad you didn’t listen to the note. I didn’t want to leave you.”
He moved towards her, hugging her upper body tightly. “God, I’ve missed you, Jessica.”
“I’ve missed you too. I didn’t know who you were, but you were in my dreams every night. I just knew that what Nick said was wrong. I just didn’t know that it was you that I was waiting for. I am so glad you got me out of there. What if I had the child and Nick took him?”
“Him?”
She shrugged. “Our son comes to me in my dreams as well. I didn’t understand it until the potion. A lot of things make sense now.”
Jessica got a flash of one of her dreams and stopped. “I just remembered something. We need to talk to Jamie right away.”
“Why, what’s happened?”
Jessica was trying to get up, and she was shaking. Trevor tried to calm her, but she wasn’t going to be stopped. She wasn’t the only one that had been taken by Dominic. She remembered now that there was someone else there as well. Molly.
“They have Molly. I know where she is, though we’re going to have to go through witches to find her. Scary witches, Trevor.”
He shushed her and held her close. “Don’t you get it, Jessica? It’s all right. Now that we’re back together, it’s all going to be okay. We will help your friend, but for now, I just want a minute with you.”
He kissed her softly, and like a new potion, Jessica was able to feel herself relax.
“How did I forget you, us?”
“Powerful witches, right?”
She sighed. “Yeah. Why is it always witches?”
He chuckled. “I didn’t know that it was. It will be okay. Tell me about these dreams, Jessica, and clear your mind for a while.”
She nestled into his arms, content and ready to do just that. Trevor’s arms felt like home.

Book Five
Chapter One
“We have a job for you, Tevin. I do not know if you’re going to like it or not, but I know that you’ll do what you’re asked to do. That’s why you’re my favorite.”
Tevin tried to smile, but it was not starting well. He knew when he was summoned to talk to the leader Cole, the leader of the Syndicate, that something was off. Cole always had a reason, and a long time ago, Tevin would have fought the man’s will, but now he knew better.
“Tell me about it.”
“I need you to watch over a woman for me, just for a little while. She is in a tight spot, so I need her taken out of there and held for a time. Shouldn’t be too long.”
Tevin did not understand. It was not something that he’d done before. He was the enforcer, making sure that everyone did what t
hey were told. He had to wonder why the girl was so important. He knew not to ask any questions, though. Anything that he needed to know would be told to him. He waited for more information, but no more was afforded to him.
He was given coordinates of where to go get her, and he was told that he may be met with force.
“Is there anything that I should know about her?”
“Not much. She is a shifter and a witch, so she could be tricky. Never let your guard down; get her out of the house and take her away. I don’t care where you take her, just keep her safe and alive until we find a suitable end for her.”
The man’s words just gave him more questions that he would not be able to ask. The Syndicate did not go after anyone unless they had to. The woman, or someone who knew her well, had done something against his clan. He had to fix it. Maybe when he ran his clan as Alpha, he would have worried about all the ins and outs, but he had given that all up when he was younger. Now, the Syndicate was his clan and he was no longer the Alpha.
“Of course, Cole. Anything else?”
He smiled. “No, Tevin, that’s it. I do not think you realize how big of a job I just gave you. From what I hear, you are going to have your hands full, so don’t be too blasé about it.”
“It’s just one girl; how bad can it be?”
Cole got serious for a moment, his sardonic smile evaporating. His lips curled up into another sort of expression, one that Tevin did not like to see that much. He knew what it meant.
“It’s not just one girl, Tevin. She is our enemy; she’s a shifter and she’s a witch. Do not take your eyes off of her, and don’t let your guard down. I promise you that you will regret it if you do.”
Tevin nodded and did his best to hide his doubt until he got out of the room. Cole was not usually so leery of things, so naturally, it made Tevin wonder why. Who was this woman that had Cole so worried? Why did Tevin get the feeling that there was so much more to the story that he wasn’t privy to?
When Cole speaks, ask no questions: just do his bidding.
Tevin had lived by that rule for a while now, since joining the Syndicate, and it was what kept him out of his head and doing his work.
It was late, and Tevin was waiting outside of the house that he was given as an address to find Molly; the woman he was assigned to. Everyone seemed to be sleeping inside. Several other people were there, so he was going to have to go in stealth.
There were a couple of guys that were walking the perimeter. It didn’t take much to notice that they were on alert. He knew that he was going to have to be careful. Getting caught was not an option. Tevin knew what had to happen if he did, and he refused to go down like that.
Waiting around for the two sentries to pass by before he moved forward, Tevin got to the front of the house and ducked down next to the shrubs. The foliage was able to cover him so that he could get in through the window. Once he was inside, he was going to have to figure out where the girl was. He hoped that she wouldn’t be upstairs. He could see the darkened windows and just knew, somehow, that she was up there.
Breaking the glass quietly, with his rolled-up jacket, he was able to get in and wait a moment to let his eyes adjust to the darkness. Once he was able to see, he moved deeper into the house. He was going off instinct. There were several shifters that he could pick up in the house, but only one witch. With the knowledge that Cole gave him, he was able to go in that direction. All he had to do was figure out how he was going to get her out of the house without having to kill everyone there. It was not like he wouldn’t. He would, but Tevin did not kill if he didn’t have to. He already had enough blood on his hands in the name of the Syndicate.
When he got up the stairs to the room that held the witch, he was amazed to find that there was another guard in the hallway. Whoever this girl was, it was obvious that she knew someone was coming for her. It also meant that she had people that were on her side. Someone was trying to keep her hidden from the Syndicate. Considering that was a feat that many would not even attempt, he knew that he was going against another kind of power.
The guard was taken down with a snapped neck and a hand over his mouth, just so that he could not even utter a single syllable in protest. Tevin felt guilt but that did not mean that he wasn’t going to do what he had to do.
He made it to the room, and before long, his eyes could see the woman lying in bed. She was not asleep, though. Instead, she was wide awake, her eyes meeting his for a moment before she asked him if he was there to take her away finally.
“Yes, I am. Are you going to scream? I don’t want to do this the hard way, but you’re coming with me.”
Molly agreed and stood up. The sheets revealed that she was already dressed, shoes and all, like she knew that Tevin was coming for her that night. It was hard to imagine, considering Tevin had just gotten the order a few hours before. Something was off, and the beautiful woman with the ethereal glow in front of him made him nervous. He wasn’t sure why, but she did, and he made a mental note to keep his distance wherever possible. Molly was the type of woman that would get him in trouble. Young, vulnerable, beautiful, big-eyed…
Tevin was waiting for her to freak out and warn the rest of the house that he was there. Every step towards the window they were going to exit from, he waited for the real Molly to come out, the one that he was warned about.
They did not speak as they were leaving the house. He had thought of so many scenarios that included shooting his way out and throwing her out the window that he had come in through. There were many options available to him, but the one that he hadn’t considered was the woman walking out with him of her own accord. It was like no kidnapping that he had ever been a part of. It made him nervous. Everything about this assignment seemed off, in one way or another.
They got outside and she asked him where he was going to take her.
“Somewhere safe, until they can figure out what to do with you.”
“Well ‘they’ never knew what to do with me, and they were always going to come for me. It is a shame they took so long. I have been bored.”
Tevin did not know what to think of her. He was attracted to her immediately but knew that he wasn’t to look at her in that way. If the Syndicate had their eyes on Molly, that meant that they had a plan for her, and it was easy to guess that it wasn’t a good one. These missions of his, orders that he did not want to commit, were all he had. For one moment, a second really, he wondered while looking at Molly if it was enough.
She seemed to know that he was thinking about her and gave him the brightest smile he had seen in a while. What in the world made her look at him like that? Him, of all people?
Chapter Two
Molly had been sleeping in her clothes for almost a week before her mystery man came. Molly should have been scared, worried, something, but she was accepting of what was to come, even if she could not see it all too well yet. She knew for certain that she was supposed to meet Tevin. Molly had not known his name, but his face was familiar as the man that she dreamed about.
“Why don’t I shift and give you a ride? It will make it faster.”
Molly assured him that she was just as fast as he was. She did not know if he was saying that because she was a woman or not, but she didn’t like the implication. Her mystery man better not be a chauvinist, she thought to herself.
“I bet you are in some instances, but you can’t fly, Molly, so you will never be able to keep up. You can’t go where I can go.”
Molly was quiet for a moment. She knew of only a few shifter types that could fly, and now she had to know which one he was. Molly could have waited, but she was curious about the man she had dreamed about for so long.
“Gryphon?”
He shook his head that he was not that particular hybrid. It was clear that he did not want to say directly, but finally, he just shifted into a beautiful red dragon. He was huge and bent down so that she could get on top of him.
Molly smiled to herself. She was surprised
at the change of events. It was extra special to her because she almost never was taken by surprise. She could see the future, after all, so to not see something coming was an extra delight. It also made her wonder why something so important would have been left out of her visions.
She held on to his thick neck and reveled in the feel of his soft scales. They were metallic, and individually, they were probably stronger than any steel on Earth, but they were also smooth and a little cool to the touch. There was heat emanating from underneath of them from inside of the dragon, but the outside scales held none of that.
Molly could do nothing else for the ride but think about the events that had brought her to that very moment. She had agreed to a matchmaking service that would find her the perfect husband. She came from a well-off family, and since her arrangement was somehow going to keep them in the lap of luxury, Molly had agreed. Marriage was just another step in her life, and it did not really matter if she wanted it or not. It was expected of her.
Even as she had agreed to the crazy plan to get married to a random stranger, it was not really a random stranger. Molly had foreseen who would become her husband and she had liked him very much. It was the man that she was riding on at that moment. Molly just knew that they were meant to be together. He was meant to be her first and only love. He had been in her dreams for well over a decade, and Molly knew that he was the one.
Now that it was all happening, though, Molly did not know how to respond. She did not know what to do exactly and considering he was a dragon, one of the rare shifter types, it made her wonder if there were a lot more surprises that were coming her way. Good ones and bad ones. Why was the future so shaky when it came to her own?
They rode for several hours until he stopped on the outskirts of a town. It was getting dark, and she imagined that he was still worried about being seen, so she did not say anything about the long trek that they had to make to get something to eat. Instead, she just went with it. This was her future, after all. The strong, tall man made of steel was to be her husband. Her lover. Visions that she had dreamt for years started to pop in her mind and make her tremble inside. The things that he was going to do to her.
