‘Oh, thank Christ for that,’ I cried, and high-fived Frank until my palm was sore.
The train pulled away from the platform, taking the kid wherever it was he was headed. For the first time in his life, the Arcadian wasn’t living under the tyrannical yoke of his family. He could make his own decisions from now on. Live the life he always wanted. The sting Tali left in his heart wouldn’t leave him, but the hurt would fade in time. And maybe he was right. Maybe one day, if God was willing, they’d be reunited in the afterlife. Wouldn’t that be nice?
The train turned a corner, sending its rear end kicking out like the tail of some great metal serpent, and then it was gone.
