Tie Me Up, Tie Me Down Page 4

Tristan nodded, the shoot opened, and Jaycee held her breath. Eight seconds. Eight seconds. Oh God, eight seconds were a lifetime. Tristan held to the horse, kept one hand in the air, leaned his body back, and continuously marked the horse with his heels and spurs. The crowd screamed. The fringe on his chaps ruffled. He was fluid with the turns and bucks, flowing with the ride—for four and a half seconds.

Jaycee gasped as he landed in the dirt. He stood and brushed off the seat of his pants with his hands. The pick-up man raced into the arena and roped Crazy Eights, and Tristan waved to the spectators.

The emcee spoke to the crowd, but Jaycee honed in on her cowboy. He picked up his hat, dusted off the dirt with a slap to the thigh, and crossed to where she hung on the rails.

“Unfuckingbelievable.” He sounded pissed but a smile curled his lips. “It’s all your fault, woman.”

“Bite your tongue. You can’t blame me for your failure to ride for eight seconds. I think it’s a performance problem.”

“I don’t have a performance problem.” He climbed over the fence, hauled her down with him, and claimed her lips. Their mouths opened, and she thrust her tongue past his lips. She wanted him to know she was his—that she wasn’t going to sabotage the best thing in her life. She wound her arms around his neck and he banded his around her torso. He growled, inching her back into the shadow of the bleachers. The rails rattled as the shoot opened and another cowboy took his ride.

Finally, Tristan pulled back, gasped a breath, and cupped her cheek. “I don’t have performance problems.” He ground his cock into her. “I drew an unlucky bronc.”

“It happens. You’ll get the gold next time.”

He shrugged. “I don’t care if I ever have another rodeo ride.”

“What are you saying? That you’d give up the circuit?”

“Yep, what happens between us isn’t an eight second ride. When the rodeo is over, it’s over.” He glanced toward the arena. “None of this matters. The past doesn’t matter.” His voice softened to a whisper. “Nothing and no one compares to you.”

She gulped. “You don’t have to give up anything for me. I love you, Tristan. I always have, and there isn’t anyone else for me either.” She released a nervous exhale. “I’m sorry for pushing you away. I guess I was scared. I don’t want to lose another person I love.”

“You won’t lose me, baby. I’m here for the ride of a lifetime.”
