Tears mingled with the rain falling on her face. “But I don’t look or feel like a bride.”

He smiled faintly. “You will. I guarantee it.”

His lips met hers … and the moment merged with greater intensity than the remaining flames. They were oblivious to the downpour, the neighing horses, the shouting voices.

A short distance away Ambrose said to Keno, “The Lord is good to us this night, Keno, my lad. Eden is safe. She’s with Rafe. The rain is putting the fire out and keeping it from spreading. Not all is ashes! Out of what is left they will be sure to build again.”

“From the looks of things, Doc Bolton’s marriage next week won’t be the only one. You’re going to be busy, Uncle Ambrose.”

Ambrose smiled tiredly as the light began to dawn in the eastern sky.

“Looks to me, lad, like I may be attending to three weddings. And the first one may be right here on Hanalei, today.”

Keno looked over at Rafe, who was drawing Eden up onto her feet and then embracing her again. From the way Miss Green Eyes was holding on to him and returning his kiss, Keno was sure Ambrose was right.
