Zane took off his as well. His abs were ribbed with muscle, and when he leaned back, her gaze ran along the scar running down his impeccably defined chest. Her attention diverted when Jayson yanked off Zane’s jeans so that his cock bobbed long and beckoning against his stomach. So did Jayson’s when he all but tore off his own pants.

This time, Jayson didn’t kneel at the bedside. He crawled onto the bed between Zane’s tanned, powerful thighs. His eyes gleamed like the wild thing he became when he roamed the woods, and Lana’s heart skipped while she watched him stalk his lover like an animal. Jayson straddled Zane, shoving his thighs together and sitting low enough on them to bend over and get hold of his cock.

Lana let out a gasp just as Zane did, and he arched and tipped his head back while Jayson pleasured him. He was so beautiful, reaching down to thread his fingers through Jayson’s pale hair, which gleamed with reddish highlights in the lamplight.

“He tastes so good,” Jayson said to her, giving that long shaft a lick. “His hard cock slidin’ in my mouth while you watch has my dick iron-hard and ready to explode.”

He stopped talking and ran his tongue over the red tip of Zane’s cock before swallowing it whole. Their grunts and thrusts excited her, and she found she couldn’t sit still anymore. She straightened her legs and tried in vain to ignore her body’s response. Zane grew hotter and closer to the edge. His loud moans and the way he exerted pressure on Jayson’s head, forcing the man to suck him faster, made it clear he was going to come, and when she was sure the men were both too entranced to notice, her hand slipped between her thighs.

She was wet with juices, making her panties stick to her slit as her fingers pushed downward, seeking relief. All she found was madness and the urge to peel off her gown to get access to her bare skin. She thought of Jayson’s fingers plunging inside her cunt, and she gave a little groan.

Her other hand was clutching the quilt beside her, and when she made her little noise of pleasure, Zane reached out and placed his hand over hers. The connection startled her, but not as much as the sound of his yell when he climaxed seconds later.

“God, Jayson,” he called out, and he thrust his hips upward. “That’s right. Take it all.”

He rode the other man’s mouth through what seemed to be intense waves of ecstasy, gripping her hand tightly with his eyes shut. Jayson slurped and sucked with obscene sounds that made Lana picture his tongue between her thighs, sending her right where he’d just taken Zane. She parted her legs wider and rubbed faster.

Now Jayson lifted up and moved to shove Zane’s legs apart. His cock was red and straining straight out from a curly patch of hair as he took hold of the base and put it between Zane’s ass cheeks. She was damn sure she knew where this was going, and her mouth opened in surprise.

His eyes met hers for a moment, and her naughty hand froze on her crotch.

“Can you smell her?” he asked, his voice rough and thick with passion.

Zane gave her hand another squeeze. “Damn hard to resist.”

Her eyes widened. Hopefully they meant her perfume and not something else.

“You smell like a fine wine I could stay drunk on forever,” Jayson said. His eyes looked pure gold now, and the untamed glow turned her on even more.

He pushed his hips forward, and his cock disappeared in Zane’s ass. Zane tensed up and cried out, and she felt a pang of fear for him. She was convinced sex had to hurt, especially for men taking something that large right up their ass. Jayson hadn’t even gone in slow.

  “Oh, my,” she murmured.

“It’s all right, darlin’,” Jayson said. “Zane’s made for me.”

As if to confirm this, Zane let out a sexy moan that shot tingles right down Lana’s spine.

Jayson began to move, thrusting himself in and out, and she stared at him the way she had watched Zane while he was getting his cock ravaged. Jayson held the same fascination, a different male beauty that was just as potent and drove her fingers to circle her clit harder. His hair was damp and lay across his forehead, his upper arms flexed while he used them to support himself. His tattoo of the phoenix came to life, shifting and pulling with each flex of his arms. His face was strained while he closed his eyes, and he fucked his partner so hard that it took her breath away.

She finally tore her gaze from him and looked at Zane, who was panting hard and clearly enjoying being taken. Yet he wasn’t lost somewhere far away in his lover’s passion. He was staring straight at her. His eyes had gone gold and feral too, and she knew there was no normal human male on earth who could look as seductive as these two.

As soon as Zane caught her gaze, he leaned toward her slightly. She knew what he wanted, and yet he was making it her call.

Rolling onto her side, she slid closer to taste his lips. The second she joined in their lovemaking, her body electrified and the pleasure between her legs soared. With a moan, she drove her tongue greedily into his mouth, reveling in the way it fueled her approaching orgasm. Her hand worked faster to get herself off, but she wasn’t satisfied with that anymore. She wanted a man’s touch.

Unwilling to break off the kiss, she fumbled around blindly for Zane’s hand and pulled it to her crotch. They both let out a groan as his fingers made contact, and she held him there and worked her pussy shamelessly against him. She was so close now, ready to explode. She just needed to push her hips against his hand a little harder.

“God, you look so sexy doin’ that,” Jayson said.

“She feels even better,” Zane said, but much to her distress, he pulled his hand away when he said it.

He all but shoved Jayson back and flipped himself over, sliding between Lana’s thighs while he pushed up the bottom of her nightgown. Jayson slid the hope chest aside and stood at the foot of the bed, yanking Zane’s hips upward to position him where he could get his cock back against his ass. Zane tugged the crotch of her panties aside and lowered his head, and her entire body seized up when she felt his hot, wriggling tongue against her clit.

No magic had ever flowed through her body as completely as the energy she felt slamming her in waves. Lana reached up and gripped the headboard while Zane’s tongue flicked over her slit. That tongue felt like a wild creature that existed solely to deliver insane pleasure. His finger pushed inside her, and this time, she was so far gone she didn’t feel the same panic as when Jayson had done it. She only wanted more.

She cried out and arched her back as orgasm approached.

  “Jesus,” Jayson said huskily.

He gave a hissing moan and a yell of release, pumping his hips hard against Zane. Then she was coming too, letting out soft whimpers instead of the scream she wanted. She ground against Zane’s tongue until the spasms subsided, and when she finally wound down enough to open her eyes, she saw both men watching her.

Lana felt nothing but a sort of numb, drowsy satisfaction for a time until Jayson broke the spell. He pulled out of Zane, and with a smile but no words, he grabbed his clothes and sauntered from the room. His pale, enticing bare ass twitched behind him as he left.

She realized she was still clutching the headboard, and she let it go with a little flush of embarrassment. Now that the eroticism in the room was wearing off, she felt a little mortified at her behavior.

Zane gave her a private smile and also got up to get dressed.

A cat’s startled meow rang out, and Jayson returned from the bathroom with a wide-eyed look. “Call me crazy, but I think I just walked in on your cat usin’ the toilet.”

Lana couldn’t help but laugh at his expression. “Yeah. She’s, uh, potty trained. And a little shy.”

His brows rose higher. “Reckon that saves you in kitty litter.” He started heading back but turned and poked his head through the doorway. “How would you even teach somethin’ like that? No, wait. I don’t wanna know.”

He disappeared to the bathroom again as Zane and Lana exchanged grins. Her gown was disheveled, so she stood up long enough to straighten herself out.
At least, long enough to straighten her nightie. She herself had just taken a path far too crooked to straighten so easy.

Lana yawned again, rubbing her eyes as she climbed back under the covers. She really was exhausted, which was probably a blessing in disguise. If she’d been fully awake, the fact that she’d just participated in sex with two men might have freaked her out entirely.

Zane settled beside her exactly the way he’d been before—fully clothed and sitting atop the blanket like nothing had happened. It eased her mind, really. If he’d climbed naked under the sheets with her, she might have jumped and run. This way, she felt no ambivalence about snuggling up to him again and closing her eyes. He stroked her shoulder, and she felt herself smile.

Jayson returned all dressed, and he sat in the chair to put his boots on. “I’ll make a quick pass outside before sittin’ watch,” he said. “Don’t suppose there was beer with the groceries you brought earlier?”

“She didn’t strike me as the beer type,” Zane said. “But there’s wine in there.”

Jayson made a face. “Wine makes me want to sleep.”

“There’s plenty of other stuff, thanks to you two,” Lana said sleepily. “Feel free to help yourself to whatever you want.”

He stood up and flashed her a heated look. “I’ll wake you in three hours,” he said to Zane.

  “Don’t reckon I’ll sleep.”

Jayson paused in the doorframe. “Good night, then,” he said. “Sweet dreams.”

“I’ve just had them,” she said without thinking, and it wasn’t until she caught his little chuckle on the way out that she realized the truth of it. Her good dreams had pretty much come to life. A cowboy and Indian had rescued her from the nightmare and taken her to a place that made it all better, even if just for a little while.

As her eyes fluttered closed, she thought to herself that maybe a little while was good enough.

  Chapter Five

Lana rushed through a stressful shower the next morning, wishing she was finished already. She would much rather be soaking in a bath with her view of the door unhindered and no water spray drowning out the ability to hear. Her braid needed shampooing, however, so she did her best to weather the vulnerable, anxious feelings that being enclosed in the shower produced. She worked quickly, fighting spikes of panic and frequent urges to stick her head out and check her surroundings. Instead, she forced away the typical fear by focusing on the kiss Jayson had given her.

The particular kiss Lana was thinking of wasn’t the desperate tongue-fest she and Jayson had shared in the hallway the previous day. It was the feathery, tender kiss he’d planted on her forehead on his way out the door that morning. The memory of it lingered enough to imagine the spot still tingled while she carefully rinsed shampoo from her hair.

The men had traded sitting with her overnight. While Zane had held her quite innocently in bed while she slept, she was surprised to find Jayson didn’t take over that spot when his turn came. Instead, he sat across the room in the rocker, nodding off occasionally. In the morning when she woke up, he was sleeping with his head bent to the side and his fingers laced over his stomach. She watched him for a while, staring at the rise and fall of his chest and the way his lashes lay on his chiseled cheeks. Damn it if he wasn’t adorable when he was sleeping. All the mischief and teasing and the hard edge of anger that sometimes crested his surface slid away, leaving the inner man exposed.

And then he’d kissed her good-bye on the forehead, a gesture that was gentle and kind and included no double-meaning remarks or smart-ass comments about her behavior the night before.

“Jayson Turk,” she said with a loud sigh. “Just when I think you’re a one-trick cowboy.”

She turned off the water and yanked open the curtain immediately, welcoming the shiver that was a preferable trade-off to not being able to see. While she dried off, she made some rather unexciting plans for the day. The men had left early, one to head off to work and the other to grab fresh clothes before seeing to his job interview and a supply run to fix her door. As for her, she’d have some breakfast and then light candles to the god and goddess. After that, she’d do some quick tidying of the cabin. Then there would be nothing to do except finish her book and maybe browse her e-reader for a new one. Someday, she’d have to get back to life and the workforce, but for now, she felt a brief pang of gratitude for the chance to experience boredom.

A loud knock at the front door startled her as she was squeezing water from her braid. Jayson wouldn’t be back for a couple hours at least, and even if he had returned, he wouldn’t be knocking on a barricaded door.

Lana threw on jeans and a sweater while listening intently. Another knock sounded, harder this time. Her heart began knocking louder as well, and a sick ache rose inside her. What if it was him? What if he’d been watching the cabin the entire time, waiting until the men were gone before coming for her?

Swallowing a sob of panic, she raced on tiptoe to the guest room, which had a window overlooking the front of the cabin. Hiding behind the curtain, she peeked out over the porch steps and waited, holding her breath and praying.

Movement followed, and she whooshed out a breath when the visitor descending the steps had familiar red hair.

“Hey!” Lana called, tugging aside the curtain and banging on the window to get Jayel’s attention. When the woman turned, Lana waved and pointed. “Come around back.”

She stopped by her room long enough to grab sneakers before racing to the kitchen. Lana opened the door to find Jayel picking her way around a rain barrel and a rickety old ladder lying on its side along the rear of the cabin.

“Sorry I didn’t answer sooner,” Lana said. “I was in the shower.”

Jayel strode up looking every bit as calm and put together as Lana wasn’t. She was dressed casual in a green knit sweater and black stretch pants over hiking boots. Her hair was pulled back from her face with a black headband, emphasizing her angular features and dark eyes. She was truly a striking woman when she didn’t have a gun in her hand and an angry scowl etched on her face.

“Don’t worry it about it,” Jayel said. “But what’s with the rear entrance?”

“Something’s wrong with the front door,” Lana said, reluctant to mention that two men had crashed it in. “I’m having it repaired later. Come on in. It’s chilly out.”

“I’m used to it. It’s always like this in the morning up here.”

Jayel wandered through the door, and Lana locked it before turning to her. “Want some coffee? It’s imported Sumatra something or other.” She gave her a sheepish look. “I’m afraid I don’t have any more of your beer to offer you.”

Jayel gave her a sideways smirk. “However hard-ass I may have come off the other night, I don’t actually start hitting the booze at breakfast.”

“Sorry, I wasn’t thinking. Occupational hazard for me until the caffeine kicks in. I was just going to have a cup, if you’d like to join me.”

“Coffee straight up would be nice.” Jayel’s eyes flashed with something akin to mirth. “Shaken, not stirred.”

Lana pulled open a cupboard in search of mugs. “If it makes you feel any better, I hadn’t pegged you as a big drunk.”

“I’m not. The past few weeks have just been really weird.”

“You can say that again.” Lana poured two cups and added cream—real cream, thanks to Zane—and sugar to one of them before handing the other to Jayel. They wandered to the table and sat. Sage appeared in the kitchen doorway, sniffing around the bottom of the frame as if that, rather than Lana’s guest, was what interested her.

“So you drink your breakfast too?” Jayel asked. “I can’t usually stomach food in the morning.”

Lana shrugged. “Not usually, but my brain needs caffeine more right now. I didn’t get much sleep last night.”

  Jayel sipped the coffee. “Oh?”

Lana winced. She wasn’t about to mention two sexy cowboys had spent the night.

  “Yeah,”
she said. “You know. Bad dreams.”

Lana felt something damp in her lap, and she glanced down to see her hair was dripping. “I’m just going to grab a towel. Be right back.”

She returned squeezing her braid with a fresh towel. Sage had made her way to Jayel’s feet. The cat had her nose upturned and eyes closed while the woman rubbed the sweet spot between Sage’s ears.

“Your hair would dry faster if you didn’t braid it dripping wet,” Jayel said.

“I didn’t. It was still braided when I washed it.”

Jayel made a curious face. “Isn’t that kind of difficult?”

“Not really. Lots of women do it when they have cornrows or whatever.”

“Well yeah, because those take hours. It only takes a minute to toss in one quick braid.”

Lana burned her lip on her coffee and pressed a finger to it. There was a tiny raw spot from cowboy stubble, and she felt a little hiccup of pleasure at the memory. “It’s not a matter of time. I just can’t take the braid out.”

  “Why not?”

Lana glanced at her visitor. “You’ll think I’m a complete lunatic.”

The woman arched a brow. “Then we’ll have that in common too.”

  “I don’t think you’re a lunatic.” Lana hesitated. “It’s sort of a magic thing.”

“What, you mean some sort of superstition?”

“More like a spell. The braid has protective magic woven into it. If I undo the plaits, it releases the spell and the protection goes with it.”

Jayel was staring at her like she’d just sprouted an extra head. “Spells, huh? Guess that explains the cat. Although she’s not black.”

Lana glanced at the feline that was now strolling from the kitchen with languid steps and her tail high in the air. Clearly, Her Majesty was satisfied with the new arrival’s homage.

“Black cats aren’t a requirement,” Lana said. “Told you that you’d think I’m a lunatic.”

The woman blinked a few times. “No. I’m just surprised you know about magic.”

  “You believe in it too?”
