  Chapter One

“We need a better mathematical description of our time travel machine,” Case Rappaport said, standing with his back to Jana Cross. He moved his light pen with short, deliberate strokes as he worked on the display board on the wall of his laboratory.

She only half listened to him. The way his hand worked up and down, moving only a few inches at a time, quick, sure, powerful. Taking in a deep breath, Jana released it slowly, hoping this would focus her attention more on the complex equation Case worked on instead of his nice, tight buns. As he moved, she saw the muscles flex and remembered how she and Case had spent the night.

Those ass muscles had been tensing and relaxing as he moved above her in bed. And the short, powerful strokes had not been a silly laser pen but something far more substantial.

  “What do you think, Jana?”

She shook herself, her short auburn hair bobbing about. Her mind twisted everything around as she tried not to think too much about having sex with Case again—right now. They had work to do, important work that would revolutionize the world. The prior week they had stepped into the blue-lit energy field of their Temporalizer, been transported a hundred years into the future and spent almost a week there.

She, Case and Erik Slane had experienced the future and returned to 2019 to work even harder on a new trip in time. Case had insisted that they keep their first success a secret. For Jana that wasn’t so hard, but she worried that Erik would spill to anyone he met. He was an adventurer type, short, powerful and with a fiery redhead’s impetuous view of life—and danger.

Jana moved uncomfortably thinking about Erik. He was everything Case was not, and her professor was quite a man. The three of them had been thrown together in unexpected ways. She licked her lips and tried to lose herself in the math, and she failed. There was another subject that kept intruding on her thoughts.

Chemistry, she thought. Or is it biology? How I want them both of them!

She had done more than share the danger with Case and Erik. A lot more. And in a turn she had never expected, Case and Erik had also bonded. The three of them—and any pairing—had managed to return alive.

“What do you think?” Case repeated. He didn’t bother turning to face her since he was so lost in the equations describing their Temporal Operations Project.

“I think something’s unbalanced.” She moved behind him and pressed close. Her nipples began to stiffen with need and soon ached to have his mouth on them. The lightest brush of her sensitive flesh against the thin T-shirt she wore was delicious agony. She reached around and scrunched her fingers into his groin until she found what she wanted most. Stroking over his bulge, she traced the outline of his penis and the balls dangling below.

  “What’s that?”

  I’ve finally distracted him!

“Unbalanced. One is hanging lower than the other. Let me see. Which one is it? Do you dress left or right?”

She ran her fingertips down the release on his fly and insinuated her fingers into the exciting warmth of his crotch. She tapped his balls gently.

“The left one’s definitely hanging lower.”

  “Don’t, you’re distracting me.”

“Good,” Jana said wickedly. “That was my intent.” Her fingers found the thick, fleshy tube hidden away and began stroking over it gently until she felt stirrings of desire. Her own breath came faster now. He was responding and she was ready for him.

Turn around, turn around, Case, and fuck me!

The words were stifled when he pulled away. His light pen flew so fast that it was a blur.

“That’s it, Jana! The energy didn’t balance. It does if I do this and this!”

“And how about this?” She pulled his cock out and started stroking up and down its length with more determination.

“What’s that? Trying to expend some surplus sexual energy?”

“I don’t know about it being surplus, but I’ve been horny ever since we got back.”

“The sexbot was quite a rival for you, wasn’t she?”

“Lorra? She looked like flesh and blood, but she wasn’t. Why talk about her at all? Erik was the one who got it on with her.” Jana stepped back, letting loose of her warm handful of manflesh. Her green eyes bored into his limpid, chocolate-colored ones. “You didn’t fuck her, too, did you?”

“You are so paranoid. Not willing to share me?”

“Or Erik,” she said in a low voice. “I want you both. For all time.”

“We’ll have all time, thanks to your insight into the math,” he said. “It works out perfectly.” Case gestured over his shoulder, using the light pen to circle part of the bottom equation.

“I want everything to fit perfectly,” she said, moving closer to him again. Her heart began to race as she took a deep breath and inhaled his scent. She had never figured out if it was aftershave or some genetically engineered pheromone, but it affected her.

Or it might just have been Case. A student fooling around with a professor wasn’t a good idea, but she couldn’t help herself—and she knew he couldn’t resist her, either. That mutual attraction made working together both deliciously thrilling and a little edgy. It was hard at times to keep her feelings for him separate from her thoughts about the work they did.

This was award winning research, whenever Case decided to release the news to the world, but Jana cared less about that than she did being with him. She kissed him as he gripped down on the convenient fleshy handle jutting out of his pants.

She moaned softly as he returned the kiss. His cock began to buck in her grip. Squeezing down on it caused it to harden even more. She wanted to experience the closeness with it inside her again. She never wanted him more than when they were fucking.

She broke off the kiss and slowly sank to her knees. He ran his fingers through her hair. His strong fingers pulled her face in to his crotch. Jana resisted just a little to show him she wasn’t a pushover, but she really was. She wanted to give him head or do anything else that would please him. Her lips brushed across the tip of his cock, then parted to take only the head within her mouth.

Sucking gently brought about an earthquake of response.

“I love the feel of your mouth on me,” he said, his voice husky. She inhaled the maleness of him and began slipping closer, taking more of
him into her mouth until the rubbery tip bounced off the roof of her mouth.

Her tongue worked on the delicate underside and her mind began to go wild with all they could do, how much she needed him, how—

“Well, well, isn’t this a pleasant sight? Mind if I watch?”

Jana pulled away and rocked back on her heels, shocked that they had been interrupted. Then she got mad.

“You don’t believe in signs, do you, Erik?”

“The red flashing light outside? Like this is a radiation lab or something? You told me you only put on the light when you want to work, that there’s nothing really dangerous in here.” Erik Slane grinned crookedly. His leering face had been tanned like leather except around the eyes where his pale skin made him into some kind of albino raccoon. He was much shorter than Case—about as tall as Jana, but she was looking up at him and saw that he was getting a hard-on from spying on them.

“I obviously should have told you that you’d get your balls burned off if you came in while the warning light was on,” she said. Jana frowned as Case hurriedly sealed his fly again and looked more embarrassed than annoyed. It wasn’t anything Erik hadn’t seen them doing before. He had even joined in more than once when they had believed they would be trapped forever a hundred years in the future.

  “Burned off or sucked off?”

Jana flushed. He made her mad. He also made her want to…

“Got news,” Erik went on, enjoying her discomfiture at his arrogance.

“We were working,” Case said, finally getting himself back into control. He reached down and helped Jana to her feet. She pressed close to the professor to give Erik the message that they were no longer a threesome, that she and Case were a couple. Alone.

But still, through her confusion she almost wished Case would invite Erik to join in. She could deal with both men. She wanted both of them.

“Yeah, working to the bone,” Erik said, grinning even more. “Look, I saw your boss—”

“The dean of research,” Jana cut in. “Is he coming here now?” She felt a little dizzy. Case needed the grant money the dean had promised, but required a committee to pass on the research and they had just returned from the future and there was a small glitch in the time machine and they had been naked and—

“He won’t be coming by for a week or so,” Erik said. “I talked to him, and he said he wanted to make certain you were ready to give a full description rather than just having us give him full exposure.”

“You were embarrassed, too,” Jana said, “when he and the committee walked in on us.”

“I didn’t notice,” Erik said. Their eyes locked. “I was too occupied with important things.”

Jana had no comeback for that. The three of them had been celebrating their return from the future. Falling into one another’s arms had seemed so perfectly natural, especially since they had all been as naked as the day they were born.

“You got that worked out yet? The bare ass part?” Erik asked.

“I have been working on other parts of the problem,” Case said. “Jana just gave me the key I needed.”

“She’s got quite a mouth on her, I’ll give her that,” Erik said, smirking now. She wanted to hit him. Case was trying to be professional, and all Erik wanted to do was act like a smut-minded teenaged kid. She stood a little straighter. That might be part of his appeal. Case was so dignified. He was great between the sheets, giving her whatever she needed most. But Erik? He just acted. Something about his brashness and arrogance augmented Case’s reserve.

Separately they were both intriguing. Together, they were irresistible.

“You’re looking flustered,” Erik said. “There’s no need to be.”

“Thanks for the advice,” Jana said. She pressed closer to Case and put her arm around his waist. It made her mad that this seemed to amuse Erik even more.

“We ought to try the Temporalizer again,” Case said.

“Is that safe?” Jana caught her breath. “After what happened before…” She let her words trail off.

“Research is never safe, not if it’s done right,” Case said. “We went a hundred years on the first trip. A shorter time would be better and give me a chance to work out the time-drift problem.”

“We got along okay,” Erik said.

“You mean you got along okay with that sex robot.”

Erik shrugged and shook his head. “Not that much. She had the hots for her master.”

“That appeals to you, does it? Having a sex slave?”

Erik didn’t say a word. The way he looked at her with his bright blue eyes told her the answer. Not only did Erik want a sex slave like they had found in the future, he wanted her to fulfill that role.

“If we didn’t go that far,” Case went on, sensing the silent byplay between his graduate student and the adventurer, “it would be safe enough.”

“You can’t tell if we’d go ahead in time or into the past,” Erik said. “Or have you fixed that glitch?”

  “It’s not a glitch!”

“It sure as hell isn’t a feature,” Erik said. “Neither was us getting dumped in the future without a stitch of clothing on. You get that tiny little problem fixed?”

“I’d have thought you would consider that a feature,” Jana said sarcastically.

  “In one case, it was.”

She started to retort, then considered what he had said. Was he turned on more by Case than he was by her? That bothered her. She thrust out her chest a bit, breasts pressing into her thin T-shirt so her nipples were obvious. Then she worried Erik only baited her to make her act like this. He played with her. Or did he? He confused her too much for comfort.

“The equations show that we can never be sure if we go forward or back in time when we turn on the temporal field,” Case said. “It’s symmetrical. It’s the same in either direction, except for a minus sign.”

“So we have to be ready for either?”

“That’s why we have you along. You’re the explorer, always landing on his feet, ready for anything that might come after us.”

Erik laughed, and this irritated Jana unreasonably. What Case said was true. There wasn’t any way they could get around the temporal uncertainty principle.

“With Jana’s help, I’ve got a more complete explanation of the Temporalizer,” Case went on, as if he didn’t notice how Jana and Erik were verbally duelling with one another. “I had overlooked there are two time dimensions—that’s why it looks like the universe is accelerating. When she reminded me, I plugged that in and the equations are right there. I can explain what’s going on.”

“But you don’t know if we’ll go into the future or the past,” Erik said, going to the pedestal where they had transported themselves a century into the future. He laid his hand on the metal surface.

Jana knew it felt slightly warm, although there wasn’t any reason for it. Something about the energy from time ran through that pedestal constantly. She thought of it more as an electrode. The other electrode was somehow in the future. Or the past.

“How long are we making the time jump this time?”

“Fifty years ought to be plenty,” Case said.

“Fifty years into the past would be boring,” Erik said. “There wasn’t anything happening in 1969.”

“The Summer of Love,” Jana said.

“That was a couple years earlier,” Case corrected. “There’s no reason to explore that. I’m hoping we go forward to see the beginning of the sexbot revolution.”

“I’d prefer the sexual revolution,” Erik said.

“I’m sure you would love making it with those drugged out hippies.” She shivered at the thought of such a culture. She understood sexbots more than the mid decade of a prior century. With Case, she didn’t need drugs to enjoy sex. A quick glance in Erik’s direction made her reconsider going back to the Summer of Love. Being there with Erik might not be too bad. Or both him and Case.

She pushed the idea away when she realized she
had missed half of what Case was saying.

“…more or less a crap shoot,” he said.

“So let’s roll the dice. I’m ready to go. How about you two?” Erik looked from Case to Jana. He didn’t look back at the professor but kept staring at her, as if anticipating how the Temporalizer would dump them all in the past without any clothes on.

“We don’t know we’d end up where there are hippies,” Jana said.

“What?” Case looked at her, and she realized her mind had been locked in the past on what Erik had said. They might end up anywhere. She and Case had originally thought they would remain in the same place, only traveling in time, but it had slowly become clear that their first trip had taken them to someplace called New Chicago. They had not been in the future long enough to know if that Chicago had been built over their 2019 version she was familiar with or if it was somewhere else entirely. The Temporalizer moved them in both time and space.

“The uncertainty,” she said, trying to cover her thoughts of being naked with Erik in public back where no one would notice them. “We need to figure out how much time will elapse whenever we end up as opposed to here.”

“That is a problem,” Case said, looking thoughtful. “We returned to the precise instant we left the lab, but were in 2119 for days. That’s a problem we should work out, so—”

“Damnation,” Erik said, putting both hands on the pedestal that focused the temporal energy field. “You can talk your way into the future. What’s that prove? Let’s just do it.”

Jana felt a thrill pass through her. There wasn’t any need for them to get equipment as they had done last time. They would end up in the past—or future—naked and dependent entirely on their own wits.

“Let’s do it,” she said, her voice hardly more than a whisper. Jana reached out and put her hand on top of Erik’s. Turning, she saw Case working furiously at the keyboard used to control the Temporalizer.

He stabbed down on the ENTER key and stepped over to join them. His hand pressed down on Jana’s, making a sandwich out of it with Erik’s below hers.
