Dreams of the Forgotten Dead Page 23

by Eric Asher

“I think so. It’s been strange being back. Moving into the new apartment. Knowing some of us didn’t make it home again. It doesn’t get easier, kid. But for now, yeah, life feels pretty amazing. I feel more like myself than I have in quite a while.”

  Vicky smiled. “I’m glad.”

“Ah am too.” Zola leaned forward and patted my knee.

We stayed there for a time, talking about the things that had happened while I’d been trapped in the Abyss. It was more than Nixie had told me, more than Foster had told me, and I suspected, by the surprise on each of their faces at varying times, none realized just how much the others had endured.

I wouldn’t be alive if it weren’t for them, I knew. And some of them wouldn’t be alive if it weren’t for me. Strange days had come and gone, and I had little doubt more were on the horizon. For the first time in a very long time, I looked forward to it.

  Note from Eric R. Asher

Didn’t I tell you we’d be back? It was great to step back into Damian’s point of view for this one. Thanks for hanging out with the misfits! I already have two more stories I’m itching to write with Damian, so keep an eye out for more Vesik books.

Reviews are the most powerful tools I have when it comes to getting attention for my books. I don’t have a huge marketing budget like some New York publishers, but I have something even better.

A committed and loyal bunch of readers.
