When he reached her, he walked right up to her, pushing her back against the doorframe, and capturing her lips for a ravenous kiss. A chuckle from her elderly neighbors who were headed out for the evening reminded her where they were, and she stepped back, pulling Joel into the apartment with her.

She was blushing, but she wouldn’t apologize to anyone. She’d wanted to kiss him as much as he’d wanted to kiss her. “That was some greeting.”

“The way you were looking at me, it’s a wonder your neighbors didn’t get to see more than me kissing you, but I only had one hand free…” He held up the wine, and she nodded toward the table.

Veronica blushed again at the implication of what he’d have done if he’d had both hands free.

“Let me get dinner dished up and we can eat. Are you hungry?”

“Starving,” he replied. When she looked back at him, he had desire clouding his eyes, and the double entendre of his words only seemed to make the tension brewing between them get stronger. That tension continued to grow throughout dinner.

“This is really good,” Joel told her.

“Thanks. It’s my mother’s recipe. I was her guinea pig while she perfected it, so I have mastered making it the same way every time. No sense in messing with perfection. Would you like another bowl?”

  “How can I resist?”

Veronica got up and retrieved his bowl, but before she could slip away with the bowl, Joel snagged her around the waist. She looked down at him and saw the need in his eyes. She set the empty bowl on the table and turned toward him. She used both hands to frame his face before lowering her lips to his. She was no shrinking violet when it came to sex, and her need was just as strong as his.

He tightened his grip on her hips and scooted his chair back, pulling her down so that she straddled his lap. Veronica went willingly, pressing her center against his groin and groaning at the hard length she found there.

She kissed him, and he soon took over the kiss, ravaging her mouth with his lips while his hands mapped her body. They’d already unhooked her bra, having unzipped the front of the jumpsuit, but when he tried to push his hands inside it, there just wasn’t enough room and she regretted not having put on a two-piece outfit.

She lifted her head and asked, “Do you still want more soup?”

“Not right now. Is the heat off?” he asked, placing little kisses along her exposed collar bones.

“Yes.” She slipped from his lap, took his hand, and pulled him down the hallway to her bedroom.

He went willingly, and once there, he slid the jumpsuit from her shoulders, removed her bra and then stared at her for a long moment. “God, you’re beautiful.”

Watching him as he paid homage to her breasts made her feel every kiss and touch as if it was being multiplied. He slid his lips down her torso, moving the jumpsuit down until it hung around her hips. He nipped the tender skin at her belly button, and Veronica couldn’t hold back her moan of pleasure.

He slid her jumpsuit over her hips and down to her ankles. She lifted each foot, and he pulled the fabric free, leaving her only in her skimpy thong. He made his way back up her body, his hands mapping her skin before his mouth followed, using his lips and teeth to taste and nip his way up her legs, she stopped him before he could settle in any one place for long.

He had her undressed, but he was still wearing way too many clothes. She made short work of undressing him while he helped by kicking off his shoes. She unbuttoned his shirt, smoothing the fabric off his shoulders while she kissed her way across his chest, stopping to pay special attention to his nipples. When his hands found her hair and pulled gently, she smiled against his skin and found his other nipple, sucking gently on the tender nub.

She teased him and then shoved the pants he’s already unbuttoned down, pleased when he stepped out of them and kicked them aside without ever causing her to lose contact with him.

When he only had his boxers on, she knelt in front of him and carefully moved them away from his erection, admiring the long length and girth. She couldn’t fit her hand entirely around his length, but just when she was about to see if he would fit someplace else, he lifted her up by the shoulders.

“If you do what I think you were planning, this would be over before we really got started, and I intend to take my time.”

Veronica pouted, but then he walked her back to the bed, pushed until she was lying flat, and then came down on top of her. The feel of his hard muscles pressing her into the mattress sent her senses reeling. “God, you feel good.”

“I know something that will feel even better,” he murmured next to her ear before biting the lobe gently.

Veronica arched up into him and then pushed against his shoulders. Once he lifted up, she used her hands to mold his chest. She played with his nipples, watching his face as he tipped his head back and gave into her sensual assault on his body. She let her hands move lower, sculpting his hips and then reaching around to grab the globes of his ass. She pulled him toward her, and he kissed her.

He re-arranged them on the bed and then spread her thighs, settling himself between them and nudging his hardness at her entrance. His hand dipped between them, and he groaned at the wetness there. She was so ready for him and pulled on his ass again. “Don’t stop.”

“I wasn’t planning to,” he smirked as he opened the condom, and then rolled it down his length, all while she watched with smoldering eyes. He moved forward an inch at a time, sinking into her slowly until he was seated completely inside her warmth. “You feel amazing.”

“I know something that will feel even better,” she parroted his first words, rolling her hips and squeezing at the same time. Veronica hadn’t had lots of sexual partners, but she believed in being well versed in whatever she was doing, and she’d read up extensively on the subject. She put all that information into practice now.

  “God!” Joel exclaimed.

“No, just Roni,” she informed him with a grin as she rolled her hips again.

“You’re playing with fire,” he warned her even as his eyes rolled back in his head.

“So, maybe I like getting a little burned.”

Joel laughed softly and then kissed her hard. “Prepare for the conflagration.” He sat back on his knees, pulled her further up his thighs, and then plunged into her once hard, withdrawing at a snail’s pace. He then plunged back hard and quick. Withdrew again nice and slow. He continued this rhythm and Veronica felt her insides go up in even brighter flames.

He teased her this way for long moments, and then he reached his breaking point at the same time she did, and they moved together in the age-old dance designed to fling them into bliss. “Come with me,” he told her as he continued to pound his hard length into her.

Veronica dug her nails into his shoulders, “I’m with you.”

“Now!” he plunged deep and then held himself while her body shattered around him. She could feel him pulsing inside of her, and the orgasm seemed to go on and on.

When her body finally stopped shaking, and she relaxed, he did the same, moving his weight off to her side, while she stayed put, struggling to control her breathing. She closed her eyes, feeling sleep take her deeper into relaxation and after a while, she gave in to the feeling. Sex with Joel had been nothing short of amazing and she couldn’t wait to experience it again, but first, she needed a nap. Just a short one, long enough to recharge her batteries. Then – round two.

  Chapter 11

  A few days later…

Veronica was riding a romantic high as she’d never experienced before. Sex with Joel had been enlightening and so amazing… she’d hated to see him leave the next morning. Never had she come so close to being irresponsible and calling out of work for a made-up excuse. She’d done the mature thing, however, and gone to work and sent Joel off to his practice.

The last two days had been impossibly busy, and it had been well after nine o’clock each night before she’d left the office. They’d spoken on the phone but
hadn’t been able to spend any time together. That was going to change tonight as it was Friday, and they both had the weekend off. Joel’s team had a bye this week, meaning they didn’t have to play football and Coach had given them a few extra days to relax and spend time with family and friends.

The caveat to having a few days off, however, was a late practice. Joel had told Veronica that he wanted to see her but wouldn’t be able to meet her until probably eight that night.

“Are you practicing at the stadium?” Veronica asked.

“Yeah. Why? Do you want to come see me strut my stuff?” Joel asked with a laugh.

  “Sure.”

“Really? Okay. Great!” He gave her instructions on how to enter the stadium and promised to let the security guard know she would be coming by sometime after she got off work.

Veronica hadn’t wanted to miss a moment of seeing Joel in action, and thankfully, she’d brought a change of clothes to work with her, anticipating a date night. The senator was traveling this weekend and had left at noon with instructions for the office workers to leave early once they’d cleared their desks of pressing matters. Veronica worked through her lunch to get her desk cleared by four o’clock.

She changed her clothes and was headed to the stadium by 4:30, excited to watch Joel strut his stuff. She parked and entered the stadium, the security guards giving her a sideways glance when she told them who she was there to see, but she didn’t let it face her. She saw several small groups of women gathered in the stands, but she chose to sit alone, near the center field.

He was number sixteen, and she had no trouble finding him on the field. She watched as he ran and caught the ball, coming down with it still in his hands despite two of his teammates being there to try and stop him. He hustled back to the huddle, spying her on his way and giving her a little wave in acknowledgment. She waved back and then settled in to watch the rest of practice.

When they switched the teams on the field, Joel removed his helmet and then vaulted over the fencing to come and see her. “Hi.”

“Hi, yourself,” she told him, seeing his face covered in sweat and joy reflected in his eyes. “You love this, don’t you?”

“Absolutely.” A whistle blew, and he sighed, “Gotta go.” He leaned down and kissed her once hard, but then shook his head and smiled. “Lethal. That’s what you are.”

The compliment made her blush and smile back. “Go play.”

He gave her a mock salute and jogged down the stairs. She watched as he ran, caught the ball, avoided being tackled, pushing his muscles and endurance to the limit. He winked at her several times when he came off the field, and Veronica found her desire for him growing the longer she sat there. Her lust for this man was beyond anything she’d ever experienced, but she refused to hide from it.

As the practice ended and the players disbursed, Joel came to get her. “Hey, I need to take a quick shower. Why don’t you come on down to the locker room with me?”

  “Uhm…”

“Don’t worry. We have a place for wives and girlfriends to wait without getting an exclusive sneak peek at everyone’s junk. Come on.”

Veronica took his hand and walked by his side through the tunnel and into the inner workings of the stadium. Several of the players were still standing around talking and took the opportunity to give Joel a hard time.

“Hey, Marketis. You’re moving up in the world.”

“Hey, sweetheart. I don’t know what this guy promised you, but I can offer you a much better time and not be a Neanderthal about it.”

  “Joel, nice catch.”

  “Joel, she got a sister?”

Veronica’s face was bright red by the time they reached the locker room. “Hey, don’t let those guys get to you. We all rib one another, it’s kind of like a sign that everyone’s been accepted into our little family here.”

Veronica nodded and then looked around at the cinderblock walls, painted red, white, and blue. “Couldn’t tell this was the Patriots locker room.”

“We do like our patriotic colors. Sit tight, and I’ll be back in a few minutes.”

He left her, and Veronica wandered around the room, looking at the pictures attached to the walls. Before she knew it, Joel was back.

  “Ready to go?”

  “Sure.”

“Why don’t you follow me to my place and we’ll just take one car to get something to eat? I’m starving.”

Veronica nodded and followed him back to his apartment. She parked and then hopped into his truck, and they were moving once again.

“What sounds good to eat?” Joel asked.

“I’m not particular. Are we going in?”

“I thought maybe we’d get some takeout and go eat overlooking the water out by Singing Beach. Some friends have a private beach out there. It’s my favorite spot.”

Veronica smiled. “I haven’t been up there for a long time. How about burgers and fries?”

“Done. I know just the place.”

Thirty minutes later, they had their food and were headed along the coastline. Joel parked in the shelter of some pine trees, the nose of the truck pointed out to sea, and Veronica sat and watched the waves roll in for a long moment. This stretch of sand was protected on either side by large rocks and she wondered how cool it would be to own a piece of land like this. She turned to see him watching her with a grin on his face.

“What?” she asked, growing a little self-conscious.

  “You’re really beautiful.”

Veronica smiled. “You’re not too bad yourself. Watching you play was pretty amazing.”

“You liked that, did you? It got you all hot and bothered?” he teased.

Veronica nodded. “Actually, it did. Might I suggest we eat and move onto the rest of our evening?”

She was being forward, but she’d never subscribed to the concept that women should be quiet and not speak up for what they wanted and needed. Right now, she both wanted and needed Joel, and she wasn’t ashamed to put it out there for him to know. Besides, Joel didn’t seem to mind and the way he quickly delved out their food and started eating told her he was just as eager for what came next as she was.

They ate in record time, and then Joel pointed down to the beach. “Wanna go join them down there?”

Veronica looked at the giant bonfire and could see several couples enjoying the warmth. “Who are they? People you know?”

“Probably Jared and his friends, but it’s November, there’s a full moon out tonight, and the weather is actually unseasonably warm. He doesn’t mind if people use the beach if they clean up after themselves. I thought we’d take the next part of the evening to the sandy beach.”

  “Hmmm. Sand…”

“I have blankets, one of them that doesn’t let the sand through.”

“Ooh, I saw those advertised but haven’t bought one.”

“You can try it out and see if it’s worth the money. Come on. I’ll grab the blankets out of the back. Bring your jacket.”

Veronica gathered up their jackets and then got out of the truck. Joel took her hand, and they navigated the steps leading down the beach with him going first and her following closely behind. The full moon overhead gave the area another worldly feel. The large bonfire produced the right amount of heat to keep everyone gathered around it nice and toasty.

Veronica watched as Joel introduced himself to the others, keeping her tucked against his side and introducing her as his girlfriend. Joel chatted to Jared for a minute about the Patriot’s chances for a Super Bowl try, and then Joel was leading her around to the opposite side of the fire. The guys were more than happy to share their fire with others who were in a romantic mood and Joel led her to the opposite side before spreading the blankets out on the sand.

Behind them, well away from the high tide mark, were small cabanas. Joel pointed to them and murmured, “Jared said we’re free to use one of those if we like.”

“That was nice of him. He didn’t look like a player.”r />
“He’s not. He’s a retired agent who likes keeping athletes around so that he feels like he’s still in the game. The man made a fortune representing some of the top names in the field.”

“I would guess so. This place can’t be cheap.”

“Let’s sit down.” Joel kicked his shoes off and then settled on the blanket. “Kick your shoes off and have a seat.”
