In It for the Money Page 25

by David Burnsworth

As far as Crome could guess, Jeremy buying the van from Jimmy was, in fact, pure coincidence. He wasn’t sure Jeremy even knew who Jimmy was. During the transaction, Jimmy had said that he didn’t introduce himself as someone who knew his mother.

The one person involved who’d escaped harm was Medusa. After spending a week in Charleston Place and with Cynthia Rhodes’ blessing, Blu gave the stripper the ten thousand dollars Angel was going to get. She left the city.

The sound of Crome’s Harley rumbled in the distance. After a moment, he pulled to a stop where Kincaid’s car had been. On the back of the bike seated behind Crome was an attractive brunette with tan skin and several visible tattoos. She smiled at Blu and Billie with brown eyes surrounded by barely visible lines, putting her age somewhere close to the men. She wore a tank top, jeans, and black boots.

Crome waited for the woman to dismount before doing the same. They walked onto the front porch, and Crome introduced the woman as Maureen. Blu and Billie greeted her.

Then Crome, scratching at his week-old beard, said, “That was what you call a simple missing person job, huh?”
