The giant ethereal screen shimmered from gameshow to a still image of a castle swarmed with dragons. A second later, the magical battle resumed.
Garrison sighed, fluttering his lips. “I’m getting too old for this shit. With things shaping up to be all official now, I’m not too interested in slogging through all the usual bureaucratic dustblow. Guess sixteen years of playing fast and loose made me lazy. I might retire. Ehh, know anyone looking to hire a babysitter?” He winked and sipped his beer. “Oh, General Everett wanted you to call him. Said he needs to go over a few points with you. I’m sure he plans to repeat all the same things you’ve already got an answer for.”
“Are you going away?” Kree looked up, a hint of worry in her dark-blue eyes.
“No, sweetie.” Risa kissed her on the forehead. “I’m not going anywhere.”

About the Author
Originally from South Amboy NJ, Matthew has been creating science fiction and fantasy worlds for most of his reasoning life. Since 1996, he has developed the “Divergent Fates” world, in which Division Zero, Virtual Immortality, The Awakened Series, The Harmony Paradox, and the Daughter of Mars series take place. Along with being an editor at Curiosity Quills press, he has worked in IT and technical support.
