Lauren grinned and ran her fingers through the neatly combed layers of his thick dark hair. “You did that all right,” she teased back.
“Does this mean you’re willing to give us another chance?” Mitch asked gruffly.
Lauren nodded and tugged him closer. She brought his head down to hers and they indulged in a kiss that left her feeling glowing and alive. When at last they drew apart, she whispered tearfully, “Oh, Mitch, I’m sorry, too. I should have listened to you when you tried to explain.”
He held her tenderly, his arms warm and strong around her, and looked deep into her eyes. “We’re together now, that’s all that’s important.”
“You’re right about that,” Lauren agreed as he lowered his lips to hers and delivered a masterfully possessive kiss that left her spirits soaring.
“So what do you say I give you a hand with this wallpaper,” he suggested cheerfully, already unbuttoning his suit jacket.
“Later,” Lauren said, taking him by the hand and leading him toward the stairs. Knowing she had never felt happier or more content, she turned to him and smiled. “First, we have a honeymoon to continue.”
“MITCH?” LAUREN SAID an ecstatic time later.
“Hm?”
“I want you to tear up that post-nuptial agreement you signed because our fathers were right. Our families need someone of the next generation to run the Deveraux-Heyward company. They need you. And I want you to realize all your dreams, just the way I have mine.”
Mitch studied her, all the love he felt for her shining in his eyes. “You’re sure about this?” he asked softly, still willing to give it all up.
“Very.” Lauren cuddled even closer, knowing she had never been more certain of anything in her life. “I think that’s what married love is all about, making sure your mate is fulfilled on all levels. And I know the shipping business makes you very happy, so I say go for it and make us all proud.”
“You are one very smart and very generous lady.” Mitch kissed her slowly, tenderly. “I just wish all my siblings could be as content as we are.”
“Maybe they will be,” Lauren supposed joyously. “After all, you and Chase have found your mates. Maybe Amy and Gabe will, too.”
“Hm.” Chase smiled. “I wonder who will be next.”
