Jimmy shook his head. “What does that mean?”
“You are Kalima. You are the first of the black wolves. You are the black wolf. You are the strongest of all of them. You simply have to ask him to come forward.”
Rachel listened to the bantering in the room. She was still trying to stop the bleeding of Sasha’s wounds and was failing at it fast. Now with most of them cleaned, she could tell that they were far deeper than what she thought they were at first. The bleeding looked like it was continuing without slowing down. She knew that they needed stitching. She knew that Sasha needed help, and she had to get her somewhere for that help. “Guys?” She turned to all of them in the room. “Whatever you have to do, do it, but I have to get her to a hospital.”
Markey shot his head back around to her. “We can’t risk the exposure,” he snarled.
Rachel stood up from kneeling at the side of the sofa. “That doesn’t matter.” She walked over to the young man with brown hair and a long drawn out look. “If I can’t stitch these wounds up, she’s going to bleed to death.”
Marie scoffed some. “She’ll heal.”
Rachel’s eyes grew wide. “Until she does, she’s going to need help. She won’t have any blood left in her if we don’t stop the bleeding.” She turned and stared to Jimmy. “She won’t have the chance to heal.”
Jimmy nodded. “We should at least take her to a place so that Rachel can stitch her up.”
Marie turned to Jimmy, and back again to Rachel. “If you can stop the bleeding, she’ll be fine?”
Rachel nodded.
Markey liked none of what he heard. “This is crazy.” He raised both arms to the ceiling and dropped them to his sides again fast, causing a slapping sound that echoed around the room. “There will be too many questions to answer. We can’t expose ourselves like that. We have to take care of her ourselves, like we always have.”
Susanna walked back into the living room, leaving the kitchen.
Rachel saw her come in, left the sofa, made her way past
Markey, and stopped in front of Marie. “I will keep her secret. I need to help her. She needs it.”
Marie looked deeply into her eyes, and could see her honesty behind them. Seeing it, and feeling her concern for her, she now knew why Jimmy loved her. “Fine.” She turned to Jimmy. “We’ll take her to the woman’s car.” She looked back to Rachel. “There is a clinic in town that will help us. You can find all that you need there.” She smiled, and turned to Markey. “They will not question such a victim. They will not question her wounds.”
“And what about when she begins to heal? They will question that.”
“When she does, they’ll simply let her leave. They will not question it, trust me Markey.”
“How do you know that?”
Marie smiled. “They’ve helped us in the past. Trust me. They will not question any of it.”
Markey shook his head. He wanted no part of what he heard, because he wasn’t convinced. As far as humans were concerned, he never would be. They question everything. They won’t let it rest. They will find out what she is, and moreover, when they did, they would all pay for that mistake. He felt sure of that much.
Marie turned back to Rachel. “Do what you have to do.”
Rachel nodded and turned to Jimmy. “I’m going to need your help getting her to the car.”
Jimmy nodded. “I’ll carry her.”
Brandon stepped from the open doorway. “Me too.” He smiled. He didn’t want to stay there without Jimmy and Rachel with him. He was far too scared to let that happen.
Marie nodded. “I’ll come with you.”
Jimmy looked from Rachel and back to Marie. “No. Stay here.” He stepped just past Rachel. “I can’t change. If Samuel comes to the house again, you’re the only one that can fight him, right?”
She nodded. “I’m his equal.” She smiled. “It would be an interesting duel.”
Jimmy laughed some under his breath. He had no doubt with what she said, so he looked back to Rachel and then to Brandon. “I’ll carry her. Make sure I stay clear of everything.”
Brandon nodded.
Jimmy walked to the sofa, put his left arm under Sasha’s head and neck, and put his right arm under her knees. He lifted her up and cleared her from the sofa. He tried to keep her firm. He tried not to cause any more damage than what she already had. He moved with her, and carried her to the front door.
Brandon stepped out to the porch.
Rachel came just behind him and her.
“Wait until I get back.” Jimmy smiled to Marie one final time.
She nodded and walked to the door, following Rachel as they all moved through it and made their way to the steps of the porch. When they reached the bottom of the stairs, she closed the door back shut.

The walk seemed brisk, and they made it in good time. He kept her as still as he could, as he moved down the dirt road. It was very hard to do. He tried to watch where he walked. He tried to watch the trees as he moved. He also didn’t feel safe. He didn’t feel comfortable. All during the walk, he felt overexposed. He didn’t relax until they reached Rachel’s car.
Once there, he carried her to the back of the car as Rachel opened it and held it open for him. He took her to the back seat and laid her down.
Sasha helped some with the effort. She felt very weak, but still managed to help pull herself onto the backseat.
With her there, Jimmy stood back upright and closed the door. He turned back to Brandon. “You drive, so Rachel can take care of her.”
Brandon nodded. “She’s a feisty one.” He smiled.
Rachel was on the other side. She opened the door, and was now at Sasha’s head.
Jimmy nodded with agreement. “She’s tough. She took quite a beating for us.”
Brandon shook his head as he watched Rachel on the passenger’s side. “Not Sasha, but her.” He tilted his head towards her. “Your girlfriend there. She’s feisty.”
Jimmy turned, and looked at her. “She’s not my girlfriend.” He bowed his head some, looking to the ground.
Brandon scoffed. “Try telling her that.” He grinned.
Jimmy picked his head back up, hearing what he did. Was what Brandon said true? Did she think the same way about me that I feel for her? The idea scared him some. He hoped that it wasn’t true, but at the same time, he hoped it was. It would explain everything that she did for him. It would explain her determination. It would explain a lot, but still, he wasn’t sure if he wanted it to go any further than this. He feared the possibilities, but not knowing felt even worse. He had to know for sure, if only to see if he was right or not.
He left Brandon, walked to the other side of the car, and joined her at the back door where she was leaning inside it; making sure that Sasha was comfortable for the trip.
She heard him come. “She should be fine. She’s comfortable.” She stood back outside of the car and faced him. “We have to get going.” She shut the door.
Her smell struck him like a thunder blast. He nodded with what she said. “Thank you for everything that you’re doing.” He smiled. “I don’t know what I’d do without you.”
She shook her head. “I shouldn’t have come. If I stayed home, this might not have happened.”
He shook his head with her, but not for what she said. “You didn’t know that this was going to happen. You did everything that I would have done, if I were in your shoes.”
She nodded. She didn’t believe that what he gave her credit for was well deserved, but accepted it anyway. She felt too tired to argue with him about it. “I won’t take long.” She smiled, changing the subject.
He gave her another full smile. “I’ll be waiting for you—forever if I have to.”
She watched the smile, and her heart melted some by the sight of it alone. “You will?” She lost her breath, and it caused her head to start swimming. The look in his eyes made everything feel magical. His voice sounded almost hypnotic. The attraction was there,
and it now seemed to want to overpower her soul. She felt it and almost lost her control to remain balanced and subdued.
“You’ve done so much for me.” He reached for her, took her hands into his and held her firmly. “I care for you.” He smiled.
She melted further in to his hands. Without thinking, she reached in and pressed her lips to his.
They kissed warmly.
He reached his arms around her shoulders and held her firmly to him. The warmth of her body flowed through his naked chest and warmed him entirely. It felt so wonderful. She felt so perfect in his arms.
He kissed her for how long, she didn’t care. He tasted so wonderful. His body felt so firm. She could even feel his heart pounding with hers. It all felt too perfect. It all felt so right.
Brandon felt his cheeks flush over, watching them kiss from the opposite side of the car. He felt pride with everything. He saw it before they ever gave themselves the chance to make it right.
Jimmy pulled his lips from hers. He blinked, tasting her taste. “Hurry back.” He smiled.
She sighed. It took all of her strength to nod. “I will.”
He released her. “You better. I don’t know what I would do if you were ever hurt.”
She returned the smile. She let go of his arms. “Same here.”
Around him, her smell instantly vanished, and was replaced by something that came out from the trees. He turned to it, smelling it firmly, and instantly, his heart ruptured into an all-out race. It smelled overly strong. It smelled like a male. It reeked of pride. It stunk of arrogance. He knew the smell all too well. It had been a month since he last smelled it near him.
Rachel saw his face turn from wanting her to something that was closer to fear. “What is it?”
He took a deep breath. “It’s Gary.”
She turned to the trees. Her mind flashed with a horrible fear. He found them.
He breathed the stench out with one giant exhale of air.
“Where?” she asked.
Brandon fell silent, listening to their every word.
“He’s moving away from us. He’s moving to the house.”
Rachel gasped.
Jimmy’s heart thundered in his chest.

He watched them from the trees as they made their way back to Rachel’s car. He had to wait until they were alone. He didn’t want Rachel to get involved with what he now planned to do. When she was clear of the house, he left the barn and made his way through the trees, keeping himself with the wind hitting him in the face. That way they wouldn’t smell him coming. He was getting so used to the hunt. He was getting so used to hunting them. Coming to the house, he kept quiet. He made every stride with a purpose.
When he reached the porch, he moved to the side of the house, and from there, looking through the windows, he noticed that everyone was in the living room. Seeing all of them, he smiled. He moved to the railing, took it with both hands, and looked back around him.
No one was there. The entire area kept silent. Only bugs were singing.
He pulled on the railing, lifting his feet off the ground, and slid his backside onto the wood floor of the porch. He did it all with a single glide.
Once on the porch, he rolled over to his knees, and climbed back to his feet. He reached to the siding, and slunk along the wall. He made sure that he kept himself in the shadows. He tiptoed, trying to keep his boots from making as little noise as possible. They couldn’t hear him. He had to make sure that he had total surprise. There were too many of them for him to deal with all at once. He had to make sure that he chose the time to strike them. At the corner of the front and side of the house, he went around it smoothly. At the front window, and seeing how large it was, he went down to his hands and knees, and crawled up to the front door. With it closed, it made everything perfect.
He made his way to the far side of the door, away from the window, and stood back to his feet. With his back on the wall, he pulled out the automatic pistol from the holster at his hip. He took a deep and exaggerated breath.
When he was ready, he knocked on the door.
He lifted the pistol up and waited for the door to open.
It took only seconds.
It all worked like a charm.

Marie had Susanna go to the back of the house to make sure that the back door was locked. She didn’t know how long it was going to take for Kalima to return. She didn’t want to take any chances. When the knocking came to the front door, she believed that it was Kalima coming back. They could now begin. He could now learn how to change, and she couldn’t wait. She couldn’t wait to see Kalima again. She couldn’t wait for his smell to fill her soul. She couldn’t wait to feel his hair against her body. She couldn’t wait to taste his breath. She couldn’t wait to have him back. It was beyond exciting. It all felt so riveting, and she couldn’t wait for it to begin.
Susanna came back from the kitchen, moving down the hallway by the stairs, and seeing her come in, Marie turned to her quietly. “Would you get the door?” She couldn’t bring herself to do it herself. She was far too excited for that.
Susanna nodded and made her way to the front door.
Markey sat on the sofa and looked down at it with tears in his eyes. The smell of Sasha’s blood completely covered it. So much so, it made him feel close to her. Susanna may have been his mate, but he always liked Sasha more. He cared for her like an older brother would care for his much younger sister. He loved her so much. Her being hurt caused his heart to ache and his mind to wander some. Was she going to be all right? Was she now safe? Everything was on his mind as he watched Susanna reach the front door, and watched her as she turned the knob.
Marie stayed at the back of the living room, directly across from the door, and stood behind the sofa. She kept near the arched doorway to the dining room behind her, and there her heart rose in her chest. Her mind raced with all of her excitement. She felt more than ready to experience all of her memories all over again.
The door opened.
A gunshot rang out. The sound of it blasted its way through the small living room and bounced off the walls like thunder.
The bullet hit the young girl who answered the door, square in the head, causing her blonde hair to flutter as the bullet passed through her face and came out the back of her head. She fell to the floor, straight to her knees, and slid down the doorjamb to her belly and stopped.
The bullet flew through the stale air of the room, and whistled right by Marie’s head. She heard it so clearly. It sounded almost like a bug had just passed by her. She couldn’t do anything else.
With the girl that answered the door down, Gary could now see into the room clearly, and from there, he looked and could see another woman standing straight in front of him from across the room. Her black hair stood out easily on her pale white face. He kept his arm raised, aimed his weapon, and pulled the trigger.
The shot came out so fast that Marie didn’t have the chance to blink. The bullet came at her, and struck her hard in her left breast and brought nothing more than a gasp from her mind. The pain flew threw her instantly. The burning from the silver of the shell felt even worse. Instantly, her body went limp as her chest exploded with fire. All she could do was collapse to her knees.
Markey saw all of this and tried to react. He stood, allowing his wolf to come forward, but only his eyes were able change. Just as they fogged over to yellow, another thunderous bang echoed towards him with a blast. The whistling came next, and it struck him hard right in the center of his throat. All he could feel was his own flesh roll beneath his chin. All he could feel was his own blood ooze down the front of his shirt. The burning feeling followed all of it. The agony of death wasn’t that far behind it.
Gary stepped through the door and came into the room as he saw the male freak drop to his knees after his silver found his throat. He looked down to the blonde haired girl at his feet, and could see her chest rise subtly beneath her. Her left arm then
moved some, which told him that she was still alive. Seeing it, he aimed his automatic down at the center of her back and pulled the trigger.
The second shot struck Susanna right between her shoulder blades and found its way straight into her heart. Instantly, she felt nothing after that.
The girl stopped moving instantly. Seeing it, Gary took a deep breath and looked back to the sofa to the young male that fell to the floor in front of it. It didn’t look like it was moving, but he walked to it anyway. He had to make sure. He stepped at its head and took aim. The thing was lying face down so he looked to where he believed the chest was under its back, and fired.
He heard a splatting sound as the bullet struck its back. It sounded wonderful. It sounded right.
Marie moved, reaching for her breast, trying to get the wolf inside her to come out, but it wouldn’t, and she knew why. Silver? The bastard used silver bullets. She felt badly wounded. The wolf wouldn’t be able to move with the silver inside her. With that knowledge, she exhaled.
Gary heard her gasp. He turned from the sofa, walked around it, and looked to the floor. The female with the long black hair was leaning against a doorway to the back of the house. He went to her, with his military style boots thumping hard against the hardwood floors as he moved. He stopped at her feet.
Marie did everything that she could to pull herself into a seated position, as the burning in her breast grew even stronger. With it, she had trouble breathing. She could feel her heart fading fast. She watched the blonde haired man step to her feet, and watched him smile down at her. He looked like he was enjoying everything that he did. “Why?” she asked him. She could barely get out the words.
Hearing that, he laughed. His mustache curled under his nose. It tickled some but it felt great all the same. “You’re a freak, that’s why.” He kept his smile and raised the weapon. “All of you don’t deserve to live.”
She could see the hate in his eyes. She could feel his anger.
He took aim and pulled the trigger.
