Carter suddenly didn’t know what to think. “What problem would that be?”

Bay walked up and handed Brandy a paper to sign. She did it without hesitation and smiled up at Bay after she signed the last one. “Now,” she said, reaching toward the small table beside her. “Here’s the rest of the photos, and I even threw in the phones. I don’t need those for anything.”

“Thanks, sweetheart.” Bay smiled, not making a move to do shit.

“Well, I honored my part of the deal.”

“You didn’t let me look around. But that’s okay. If I had a safe room full of weapons and money, I wouldn’t let us in it either.”

Her face fell. “How did you know about that? Justin said no one would ever know about it.”

  “I saw the blueprints.”

“We had a deal,” she said.

“I lied.” Bay shrugged. “But then, so did you.”

Carter was freaking out, and he was damned glad that Bay was his friend and not hers. “I told you she was crooked.”

“You lied too, Carter. Too bad I already knew what was going on. The last time I talked to Justin, it was to thank me for the fake marriage license I had drawn up for you and Corey.”

“You knew all along?” asked Carter, not believing his ears. “I guess I should have known Justin had someone else involved. It’s cool, man. We’ll put you in for an equal share.”

Brandy reached behind her back and drew a gun, pointing it right at Carter’s face. “If you think I’m going to let either of you take half of my money, you’re sorely mistaken.”

“I’m not going to take half of your money, Brandy.” Bay stepped closer. “That’s not the way I operate.”

Carter knew exactly how Bay operated. He realized what he was up to. “You’re going to take it all.”

  Bay smiled. “Damn straight.”

Brandy kept the gun pointed at Carter as she turned to Bay. “You’re nothing more to me than two more dead men.”

Carter went to make a move for the car. Brandy turned back to him quickly and fired.

As Carter fell to the ground, another shot rang out. He looked up in time to see Brandy fall, and then Bay ran over to check on him. “How bad is it?” Carter asked, trembling and holding as much pressure on his wound as he could.

“She’s a good shot,” said Bay. “You should have fucking told me.”

“I’m sorry. She’s the only one who could get to the money. Do you realize what you’ve done?”

“Just what you said.” He took the paper off the table from where Brandy had signed her name. “I’m taking it all. The stores, the money, the house. It’s all mine now. But don’t worry. I’ll make a sizeable donation to your church in your memory.”

Carter realized the papers had secured it all. He looked down and saw the blood as his pulse grew weaker. Surely, he wouldn’t let another Zodiac die? He thought of his child. Of Adrian and Ava. He’d face them all just to have one more chance. “Save me, Bay.”

Bay stood over him. “Sorry, brother. Only God can save you now.”
