Her heart clutched and seemed to expand in her chest. “Your love is mine and mine is yours.”
He reached inside the box and pulled out a necklace. It was silver and studded with large green gemstones that sparkled in the sunshine. “Are those emeralds?” The necklace had to be worth a small fortune.
“They’re more valuable than emeralds.” He held the strand in his hand. “They’re drakon tears.”
“Drakon tears? I don’t understand.”
He let the strand play through his fingers. “A drakon cries only when his heart is breaking, only for love.”
Luther had loved someone enough to cry for them. She bit her bottom lip to keep from crying. Her heart seemed to shrink. “I see.”
“No, you don’t.” He slipped the long strand over her head and took the time to pull her braid out of the way so it settled better around her neck. “These tears were shed when my parents went missing.”
“Oh, Luther.” She wrapped her fingers around the strand of precious gems.
“But you helped me get my family back. You were ready to die for me. You are the only woman I could ever give my tears to. They’re yours. Forever.”
Tears trickled down her face. The depth of emotion was almost too much. She threw herself into his arms. “Thank you.”
He pulled her close. “No, thank you. You are my heart and my love. I was chained as much as my father. My chains were sorrow and anger. But you’ve released me and allowed me to love again.”
“You’ve done the same for me, my love,” she confessed. “I was only existing until I met you. You showed me what life is all about, what true love is.”
“A drakon only gives his tears to his mate.”
Victoria laughed. “Want to get married?”
Luther threw back his head and laughed. “As soon as we can manage it.”
He kissed her, and she felt his love, knew she’d never question it again as long as she lived. “Where will we go?”
“Anywhere we want. It doesn’t matter as long as we’re together.” He grabbed the box, tucked it under one arm, and held out his free hand.
She took it, knowing what he’d said was true. She’d finally found a home, a family, all with her very own drakon.
