However, when I worked for The Weaponized ruled by Echo, I had hardly gotten to see much of this world. My freedom of movement was very restricted. I was allowed to visit only our space stations and those places where our current mission was.
Now that Echo was dead, I could go anywhere and do whatever I wanted. The thought of hitting one of the dropships and taking off to explore the world was appealing to me. Sure, all I knew how to do in this world was fight enemies, because that was all that I had been taught at the organization. But I could probably switch to another profession to lead a more peaceful life. While I was technically only a few months old, I had already had more than my fair share of sticking my neck out. It would be really nice to live a peaceful life, for a change.
So for now, I decided to take a break from working for The Weaponized for a while. Or maybe forever. Time would show.
When I told Vanessa this, she nodded and replied, “Well, if you decide to return, you will always be more than welcome.”
I nodded. Vanessa looked at Maya and asked, “What about you?”
The blue-haired girl glanced at me and replied, “I feel the same way. I really feel like I’ve had enough of this. You guys know why I joined The Weaponized, right? I only wanted to do something reckless to forget my ex-boyfriend. And this goal was achieved.” Maya looked up at me. “Yeah. I totally don’t care about my ex anymore. And I’m not a soldier at heart. So yeah, I think it’s time for me to move on.”
Vanessa looked between us, then nodded. “Okay, guys. You know where to find me if you decide to re-enlist.”
The blue-haired girl turned to look at me. She blushed a little as she looked me in the eyes.
“I really like your idea to explore the world, David,” she said with a smile on her pink lips. “I’d really like to join you. Remember when I told you I wanted to show you my home planet? We can start with visiting it. I’m sure you’ll like it there!”
I was glad she suggested it. Unlike me, Maya was born in this world, so she knew it way better than me.
“Sounds nice, Maya,” I said.
I took the girl’s hand in my own and we turned to head out of the room.
We had the whole galaxy to explore.
