Along Came a Ranger (Texas Lawmen Book 3) Page 21

by Debra Holt

Down the stairs they went once more and out through the back door. He did not allow her to stop and talk when first one person and then another hailed them. Davis was intent on their next destination… the barn. He opened the door and allowed her to slip through ahead of him.

Stacy stood looking at him with a definite question in her eyes. “My other surprise is here… in the barn? Are you certain?”

“It’s right over here.” He drew her along behind him to stand in front of the third stall.

A golden head stuck itself over the low door. Stacy stood for a moment, taking in the beautiful Palomino, watching her with huge brown eyes. She was just like the horse she dreamed of having all those years growing up. How did he know?

“Darcy shared some of your talk the evening you first came to the ranch. I thought it might be nice for you to have your own horse… for when you need to take a break from the writing. I know a cowboy who’ll be more than willing to teach you how to ride, also.”

Stacy turned her gaze on the man. Could her love be any deeper for him? Moisture crowd the corners of her eyes. “You’ve thought of everything.”

“Well, I figure it works out well enough… you can take breaks for research and I’ll be glad to help out with that. Then we can take long rides and catch some romantic Texas sunsets. No reason you have to change your writing habits too much.”

“It has changed though.” And she rose on tiptoe to whisper against his ear. “From now on, my heroes will always be cowboys.”

  About the Author

Born and raised in the Lone Star state of Texas, Debra grew up among horses, cowboys, wide open spaces, and real Texas Rangers. Pride in her state and ancestry knows no bounds and it is these heroes and heroines she loves to write about the most. She also draws upon a variety of life experiences including working with abused children, caring for baby animals at a major zoo, and planning high-end weddings (ah, romance!).

Debra’s real pride and joys, however, are her son, an aspiring film actor, and a daughter with aspirations to join the Federal Bureau of Investigation. (more story ideas!) When she isn’t busy writing about tall Texans and feisty heroines, she can be found cheering on her Texas Tech Red Raiders, or heading off on another cruise adventure. She read her first romance…Janet Dailey’s Fiesta San Antonio, over thirty years ago and became hooked on the genre. Writing contemporary western romances, is both her passion and dream come true, and she hopes her books will bring smiles…and sighs…to all who believe in happily-ever-after’s.
