He waited until Mercury stepped away, glancing back as he strapped in for takeoff. This was it. This was Sean’s last chance to go back to the worn path that he knew so well. It wouldn’t take long for the Federation to realize that this time, that his participation in Mercury’s escape was voluntary. Instead of upholding the law, the only thing he’d been good at for years, he would now be a criminal.
Sean blew out a long breath, then pushed the throttle forward.
As they left the broken shelter of the failed Amberlee Spaceport, rising higher, the soft golds of the mid-day sky become muted by clouds, and then hues of violet blues as they left Earth’s atmosphere behind.
