She shook her head. “No, I want to now. Right now. I want this done and behind me. My interview will help things move faster. I feel better, I can do this.”
“I thought you’d say that.” He exhaled, leaned down and lightly stroked her hair. “You’re so strong, Dixie. You, your body… you’re so strong.”
She looked up, surprised at the emotion in his voice.
He continued, “I’m so sorry I didn’t get there earlier—
“Liam, you saved my life. You literally saved my life. I wouldn’t be here without you.”
He opened his mouth to speak, but she cut him off and said, “No more discussion about that, okay? I’ll be forever grateful for you…” Tears welled in her eyes. “You saved my life.”
A single tear glistened in Liam’s eye right before he leaned down, and kissed her softly on the lips. He pulled away, his face inches from hers, his eyes full of emotion.
He whispered, “I love you, Dixie. I know it’s crazy, but I love you.”
Her heart swelled, her breath stopped. Shock spread over her face.
“You do?”
He smiled, sniffed. “Yes, dammit, I do.”
She smiled, tears swimming in her eyes.
“I love you too, Liam.”
