I had tossed and turned all night. The thought of my vision coming true truly scares me. I keep picturing the slaughter I saw. I have to just shake off the feeling. Sitting here worrying won’t keep it from coming true. Staying vigilant and proactive about the situation is all that will help change the future. Rhett is out in the woods with the witches, putting up the barrier. They are walking the perimeter to make sure that every single inch of the pack property is covered. Rhett is making sure that our pack is still able to run in the woods without anything happening. I walk outside into the warm woodsy air and look out over the backyard. We have people setting up for the party tonight. I was standing there deep in thought about this party when Hazel walked up to me and linked her arm with mine.
“Get the hell out of your own head. I can totally tell that you’re worrying. Knock that shit off.” Hazel said, nudging me.
I gave her a questioning look. “Do you honestly think that having this party right now is a good idea? With this threat hanging around, it’s just not safe.”
“Yes, actually I do. It’s the perfect time. We just had the curse broken that was fucking up all the factions. It was a big win for us all. It needs to be celebrated. We shouldn’t live in fear. It sucks that you’re having visions, and they sound scary as shit. But I refuse to be afraid of something that is still a ‘maybe’. Nobody knows for sure that everything in your vision is going to come true. Sure the witches say that bad things are coming, but bad things are always coming. My brother is Alpha of a pack, bad things are bound to happen, and he will always swoop in and be in the middle of it. Bad will always follow us all, but let’s not let it control us.” She said with a little bit of an edge to her voice. I decided she is right. There’s no reason that I should live in fear of something that can change at any minute.
“I’ll be taking your advice this time oh wise one. But the minute bad things start happening, I’m throwing you in the way of danger so I can get away.” I laughed and poked her in the side.
“Bitch you could try! We both know you’re not that type of person. And that’s a reason why I love you. Always trying to help and protect everyone.” She said kissing me on the cheek as she walked into the backyard to help with setting up for the party. I couldn’t help but smile. She’s right. I would give my own life for any of the wolves in my dad’s pack and ours. I guess having an Alpha for a father really gave me a selfless mentality. Taking her advice, I headed down to help get the party ready. It started in a few hours. The outside preparations were about done. The finishing touches would be done once my dad sent someone from their pack in advance to bring the food and drinks. After helping set up the last few tables and chairs, the girls and I headed inside to get our hair and makeup done.
“Do you know what you two are going to do with your hair? I’m going to straighten my curls out.” Athena asked as we walked into Rhett and my bathroom upstairs. We decided it was the easiest to get ready in with all three of us getting ready at the same time.
“Girl, it’s a good thing we have hours to get ready! It’s going to take forever to straighten all that hair. How about we help with your hair and then we can do ours? I’m just going to do some loose curls.” Hazel said to her.
“Alright Hazel, you get one side of her head, I’ll get the other. Try not to burn her ears off while you’re at it.” I couldn’t help but pick on her. She stuck her tongue out at me. At that, we got to work.
A little while later after we finished with our hair and makeup, we got our party dresses on. They weren’t anything too fancy, but they sure were sexy. The guys are going to die when they see us. Athena with her long legs and her straight hair. She had on a short red dress. The length of the dress made her legs look like they traveled for miles. Hazel had chosen a short green dress. My dress was exactly the same design as theirs, but I had chosen navy blue for my color.
“Damn we look good.” Athena howled. Hazel and I couldn’t help but laugh at her. Werewolves could be cocky creatures. And right now we weren’t exempt from that. We were definitely feeling ourselves tonight.
The party should be starting any moment. A little bit ago I heard someone pull in the driveway, delivering the food and drinks. After dealing with getting that setup, I heard Rhett in the bedroom grabbing his clothes. He was getting ready with the guys downstairs. He tried begging for a sneak peek through the door but Athena shooed him away. That girl sure doesn’t care if he’s an alpha, to her he is her best friends mate. He knew better than to argue with her either. He didn’t try coming into the bathroom a second time. It might have had to do with the bodily harm she threatened him with. She sent verbal threats for the other guys, through Rhett. I love that crazy girl.
“Alright bitches. Let’s go out there and get this party going. It sounds like everyone is arriving. We don’t want all the good booze to be gone.” Hazel said to us both.
“Let’s do it. After all that primping, I’m thirsty as fuck.” I said. Nobody ever accused us of actually being ladylike.
The party was underway when we walked outside. Rhett, Finn, and Jackson were standing together with drinks in their hands. Finn was first to notice us coming. His jaw dropped. He began nudging the others and nodded towards us. The other two turned around to look at us. Both of their jaws dropped.
Hot damn. You’re lucky we’re at this party. Just wait until afterward. I could tear that dress off of you right here.
We walked up to the guys and us girls were laughing. “Close your mouths you neanderthals.” Athena said, grabbing Jackson’s face and planting a kiss on his lips.
“You girls look amazing. It’s a good thing that any wolf that’s present tonight know who you three are with.” Said Finn.
“Oh shut it. Now did we get all dressed up for nothing? Or are you guys going to dance with us?” Hazel said as she grabbed Finn’s hand, and dragged him to the dance floor. I didn’t even have to say anything before Rhett grabbed my hand. Smart man. When we got onto the dance floor, I saw my parents at a table nearby, smiling at us. I smiled back and waved. I’m so glad we have this night to enjoy without all the nonsense getting in the way. Rhett and I continued to dance to the upbeat pop songs until the DJ turned on a slow song. Rhett placed his hand on my hips, and we began to sway to the music.
“You look absolutely fantastic tonight baby.” Rhett smiled.
“You don’t look so bad yourself, you know. I’m glad we decided to have this party tonight. Look at how happy everyone is. They all needed this as much as we did. Maybe we should have big get-togethers more often.” I said as we looked around at all the people from both of the packs. The Iron pack and the Baraga pack together. Having our packs united like this makes us so much stronger.
“Can I cut in?” Came my dad’s voice as he walked up to us.
“Sure, you can dance with Rhett if you’d like to.” I couldn’t help but giggle.
“That’s not exactly what I meant, but that doesn’t mean I won't.” My dad said, attempting to grab Rhett’s hand. I started laughing harder.
“Okay, okay! Get over here.” I said, grabbing my dad's hand. Rhett was shaking his head laughing at us both.
“How are you enjoying the party? You seem to be having a good time.” My dad asked.
“I actually am having an amazing time. This morning I wasn’t so sure about having this party. It didn’t seem right with the visions, but Hazel knocked some sense into me. She said that we can’t live in fear of the things that might happen. So I’ve been trying to stay positive. I’m glad we decided to have the party. Both packs really needed it.” I said, feeling good about the decision.
BOOM. All of a sudden there was a loud sound, and a blue flash of light. The barrier!
“Rhett, Barret! Someone has entered the barrier! Get ready. We can feel the negative energy that crossed the barrier. Something evil is here.” Sybil and Amora ran up to us.
No sooner had Rhett’s growl rip through the air, did I spot the same vampire that I
saw in town. Suddenly the scene in front of me changed, I was no longer at the party. Instead, I was in a large dark room. The metallic smell of blood pierced the air. There was a small light that was flickering on the ceiling in the middle of the room. It looked like I was standing in the middle of a walkway with two cages on either side of me. I could see that there were people in the cages. Even with normally being able to see well in the dark, I was having a hard time making out any faces in the cages. I walked up to the bars on the cage. I saw a figure wearing a familiar red dress.
“Athena?” She couldn’t hear me. Her dress was ripped. Her hair was matted to her body, and her skin was filthy. I could make out blood on her face, and I could swear that I saw teeth poking out of her mouth. Those didn’t look like wolf teeth. Oh no. Please no. I started screaming.
“Scarlett, wake up baby. Wake the hell up!” I felt Rhett shaking me. We were both on the ground. There was a crowd around me.
“Athena! Where’s Athena? Let go of me. I need to find her.” I said, standing up and pushing through the crowd.
“Athena, where the fuck are you?” I screamed. Everybody was staring at me. Not one person was saying anything.
“Scarlett, wait.” Rhett grabbed my arm.
“Let go, I have to find Athena. I have to make sure she’s safe. You don’t understand.” I tried tugging my arm away from him.
“Stop and listen to him, Scarlett.” I heard from behind me. I turned to see that it was Hazel who spoke. Her face was red and she had mascara and tears streaming down her face.
“When you blacked out and had your vision, things got pretty chaotic. That vampire that you saw before your vision took over, he’s the one you saw in town wasn’t he? We tried to grab him but he was protected by some kind of spell. Even Sybil and Amora couldn’t break through it. He wasn’t alone. There were two other vamps.”
I growled loudly. “Get to the fucking point, Rhett!”
I already knew what he was going to say.
“I’m sorry, Scarlett. They took Athena. She’s gone.”
I felt my world crumble.
