Chapter One
Hardened Hearts
Two weeks into their mission, Nick watched comfortably from his sniper’s nest. The Army Corps of Engineers, Seabees, and a private contracting firm, worked day and night after the first few days of deportations to Western Sahara, landing thousands of mobile cottages. Three solar powered water desalinization capsules, engineered at intervals to service the relocated Muslims’ new city between Dakhla Attitude and El-Aaiun would supply water for all purposes. After the water producing stations came on line within the first week, irrigation, and sewage plants with piping to the furthest reaches inland, calculated to provide water for all conceivable uses, could be tapped for added building. Nick had insisted on a state of the art crematorium, noting from the beginning, loss of life would be inevitable.
Johnny, Gus, Jian, and Cala watched in rotating shifts. Nick protected their facilities from assault by angry deported refugees without mercy. They were housed for the time being in a tent encampment, where they were given nothing other than K-rations. Gus spotted three men edging along the water toward the first desalinization capsule. Nick shot the first one in the head, spraying his compatriots with brain and skull material. The silenced .50 caliber round made little noise from a thousand yards away. The other would be saboteurs ran back to the encampment.
“Slow learners,” Gus said. “How many ways do you need to say, ‘if you try and sabotage anything, you die’? They’ve had twenty-seven casualties. The work detail idea helps the contractors
and keeps the encampment clean, as long as there are ‘shoot to kill’ orders. The ‘either work or don’t eat’ rule reinforces what we’re doing here.”
“Johnny found the desalinization capsule installation modules. We need the damn things in California,” Nick replied. “I’m not letting these assholes sabotage them. They will work great with irrigation too. These parasites will learn to grow food, do menial labor maintenance to improve their own communities, and create ways to become productive, or we will allow their brethren in the nearby cities to enslave them. I’ve met with the forces controlling El-Aaiun and Dakhla Attitude. They have armed contingents willing to make sure our new city works on its own, or they will be allowed to make it happen in any way they see fit. They weren’t happy until I told them they would have no interference if the experiment failed.”
“I believe our captives are getting the message they will have no contact with the outside world until they earn it,” Jian said.
“John told them they will stay here for a month. Any of the parasites who hate it here will get a one-way ticket to Syria, Somalia, or wherever the hell else they came from, dumped and catalogued so they will never plague anyone else,” Johnny added. “That is more than fair, considering the crimes they committed against a host nation who gave them everything. Uh oh, Muerto… here comes another band of mutants to see if we have slacked off. Talk about stupidity. They will do anything to sabotage survival here.”
“No mercy this time,” Nick said, listening to Johnny calling out parameters for the shots. Each time he squeezed the trigger, a saboteur died, even in full flight back the way they had come.
“It is good you insisted on a crematorium, Muerto.” Cala watched with interest as she stayed close to her husband. “They care for nothing. They live to destroy, even when it will mean survival.”
“They believe if they sabotage everything here, the bleeding-heart liberals and globalists will take them back, complete with millions in payoffs,” Nick replied. “That ain’t happenin’. England is jubilant. They’ve embraced anyone who had anything to do with this action. They police their streets happily, while enforcing the three-pronged edict of either leave, renounce Islam, or die. The citizens of the UK are not going back to the ridiculous refugee thuggery.”
“The refugees and other Death Cult acolytes are close to their grace period for deciding what they want to do,” Gus said. “The mosques have already been confiscated for conversion to housing. The explosives and weapons gathered from the fake religious mosques have proven what everyone with a brain understood. The mosques were armories for war. Islamic mutants do not assimilate. They infiltrate and conquer from the inside. Not this time.”
Nick’s crew settled in for their turn at the nightly watch. Nick relaxed, thinking of the civilian contractors erecting the small portable cottages at breakneck speed. They incorporated ready to attach plumbing and electrical, although all were solar powered. In addition to the five hundred million dollars in projected costs, the contractors would get one hundred million in bonuses depending on completed housing work deadlines, with quality control double checked by the Army Corps of Engineers. The Seabees erected a string of modular pontoon docks joined to allow transfer of materials and supplies. Later, they would act as landings for fishing and trade. The largest work force ever assembled, using the deported refugees as manual laborers had erected ten thousand of the easily assembled cottages.
Alexi’s container ship, the Roma, provided non-stop delivery of supplies and materials, all paid for so far from the vast fortunes confiscated on Cafrey Island. Jafar used the inroads given him by Mehdi Al-Kazar to wipe out the Al-Kazar family to the tune of twenty-five billion dollars. The confiscation caused a Saudi Arabia protest at the UN to which they received the short answer from the United States, whom they blamed for the Al-Kazar family’s vast fortune disappearing – ‘we don’t know where it went and we don’t care’.
Because no one could find anything other than a note and video of a very intense and smiling Mehdi saying he needed to get away, interest in the matter waned quickly. All financial earmarks of the money leaving the Al-Kazar coffers were transferred to newly created foundations, by Mehdi Al-Kazar personally, therefore leaving the Saudis with no leads other than the family’s financial controller. The scattering of the huge fortunes gathered took Jafar, Clint, and Laredo day and night careful threading over a week’s time. Nick took a deep breath, letting it out slowly. He planned for this experiment to either end in complete success or the enslavement of the UK’s refugee terrorists.
Sweden, Norway, and even Belgium had already expressed interest in adding to the settlement. They requested intervention. Nick didn’t want any part of it. A meeting was scheduled for the next morning with everyone in the area with any power. It would take place on the Roma. Nick glanced at his comrades, knowing their enthusiasm for helping brainwashed adults, acting like murderous children, was wearing thin. Their dependents flew to England, enjoying every luxury imaginable. They planned for a reunion within days.
The building phase was crucial. Nick encouraged everyone to look for a leader in the mutant group not hogtied to the ‘Death Cult’. He and Johnny had entered the refugee tent city when policing cleanup proceedings to interview for candidates. Only their no hesitation killing of anyone approaching with violence made sure the tent city people remained respectful. They forced them to separate and recycle everything. Any resistance to the program and the perpetrator’s tent was taken away for a week. Latrine duties were shared after establishing a hundred portable units with sink and toilet. The recycling of the water in the over two hundred and fifty gallon tanks each unit stored was done by solar powered pump, draining and recycling constantly. It cost five hundred thousand dollars to make the sanitary recycling, state of the art facility. Hygiene was maintained by rotating cleaners from the numbered tents. If inspection teams found dirty facilities, all tents were taken away from the negligent parties for a week. Nick grinned.
“This place may become obsolete in a month’s time. These lazy bastards would rather be back in their home country shit-holes than here where they need to maintain a modicum of cleanliness.”
“You have that right, Muerto.” Cala made a disgusted facial contortion. “They have beautiful beaches, same climate they were used to, food and drink, and the promise of much more - yet they bitch and moan about everything because they are forced to maintain it. They are incurable parasites. This experiment sucks. The mutants prefer squalor.”
“We made a commitment to the experiment, my love,” Johnny reminded her. “Muerto and I have seen some leaders amongst the group, who may have been playing along with Islam so as not to get their heads taken. This bunch needs secular leaders who can build upon what we give them. Iran under the Shah was a paradise compared to what it is now under the mutants. Secular leaders know how to deal with their Islamic Sharia Law Mutants. They understand only violence and death. I learned early from my childhood the only exit from Islam was death. After years of brainwashing, we do indeed turn into mutants.”
Johnny squeezed Cala’s hand. “Thanks to Muerto, I was dragged from the dark side into the light. With Cala at my side, I will seek to save others.”
Gus lowered his range finders. “So, you have seen some promising leaders?”
“Yes,” Johnny answered. “They have pulled us aside when no one was looking, hoping we were not allowing another Sharia Law blasphemy. They do not want to ever return to Somalia. We also have one Syrian, who has been on a perform or die status with some in the encampment. He had wanted to accept the UK as his new home, but was reminded they were in the UK to establish the new Caliphate, sweeping over Europe, Canada, Australia, and the UK.”
“One bright spot was they believe like the Russians did during the cold war that we have too many guns in the hands of American citizens to wage a civil war,” Nick said. “They believe stockpiling weapons of mass destruction in America will be the only way to overcome us. Apparently, t
hey don’t give much credence to the snowflake enablers of Islam. I wish I could believe the same. John’s run in with the Islamic airhead teacher and jihadi husband is the tip of the iceberg. Uh oh… oh my, check this one out.”
Nick pointed at the guy dressed in full length robes, who had entered the death scene. He waved a white flag wildly above his head. “It looks like he wants to parley. Go find out what he wants, Johnny.”
Johnny laughed. “Yeah, right. You are wondering if he has somehow smuggled something to attack us unsuspecting dolts with, and now want me to be the poor sap who finds out.”
“He can’t have anything very dangerous. They would have used it on you and me already,” Nick reasoned. He stood. “You’re good with the M107. Shoot him in the head if he makes a bad move. He looks like the guy from Syria named Khan, who doesn’t want to go back. Maybe he figured to have a chat with us about the direction we might take.”
“We’ll be watching, Muerto,” Gus said. “Let him talk from twenty feet away.”
Nick smiled. “He doesn’t have some cell-phone bomb, Gus. I hear you. I’m not getting stupid. If anything, a setup would only work with him drawing me close to be jumped. We all know how that would end. Relax. We’ll be off point in a couple of hours. I know this Sand shit is wearing on us all. Let’s get ‘er done.”
Nick walked down in the darkness toward the lone figure with his entire crew arming for long range shots with whatever they had. Gus readied the M2 machine gun camouflaged near their watcher’s cottage with Jian near him for range and sighting. Cala stayed with Johnny, rangefinders in hand.
Nick waved at the man as he neared him, speaking to him in Arabic. “Hello, Khan. Did you think about our conversation?”
“I saw an opportunity to speak with you. These men you killed are the worst of our group. I am glad you did not allow any to live. I do not want to return to Syria or even the place of my birth in Turkey. I can tell from working on construction, this can be a home here without the Sharia Law scum. I joined with them that night because they threatened to kill my wife and daughter. I will do anything if you can bring my family here after the construction is finished.”
