“Tomorrows New Year” said Ruby, “look lets wish in those shooting stars” said Dimond. They wished in the shooting stars and went to bed. They both shut their eyes peacefully and in no time at all they were fast asleep. It was so adorable. Ruby twitched her beak and Dimond twitched her ear, opened one eye then the other. Then she screamed “its morning” one of Ruby’s feathers fell out but she didn’t mind, she was used to it.
They went downstairs for breakfast, they had raisin bread with butter. After they finished they went upstairs and got dressed. Ruby wore a Christmas hat. And Dimond wore a jingly bell dress and a Christmas hat. They rushed downstairs and both screamed “ITS NEW YEAR TODAY!” This was so exciting, they had never felt so excited before, except for Christmas! “What shall we do?” screeched Ruby in her high voice. “calm it” said Dimond, “you are hurting my ears”, “sorry” said Ruby. So they hurried downstairs, ran outside and sat on a low stump beneath the old cherry tree.
The old cherry tree was a lovely place to stay and even the cherries still grew. It was amazing how that old tree was still alive. Ruby was amazed when Dimond told her about it. It was a beautiful day, the grass was swaying in the small breeze and the sun was shining brightly over the shimmering green grass “it’s absolutely beautiful today” said Dimond. Enough to have a snooze thought Ruby. “what are you thinking?” said Dimond, “ah, about a snooze!”, “oh” said Dimond “but I don’t think it is a good idea anymore”, “good choice” said Dimond “lets go and get dressed into something else, I’m boiling”. “Definitely, me as well!”
They both went inside got changed into swimming gear, ran outside and jumped straight into the pool. “that’s WAY better” commented Ruby, showing off her bright red breast. “SOOO better” said Dimond cleaning her paw. “When shall we hop out?” asked Ruby, “never” said Dimond. They both laughed, and laughed and soon couldn’t stop. But it was extremely funny. They both gave a secret high five which meant best friend of course. A lovely blossom fell on Dimond’s ear “look Ruby this is pretty” Dimond cried. “Very” commented Ruby.
It was such a sunny morning that they had to put sun cream on and Dimond and Ruby could not stop smiling for one second, or a minute, definitely not an hour. Soon they had to get out because the pool was getting too hot to even swim in. They hopped out of the swimming area and put on their towels and slowly walked inside and got dressed into a lily dress that they had made last summer. They thought they might make some more next summer, just in a different kind of flower like a blossom or a pansy or daffodil even a daisy.
They put on their hair bands and Dimond carefully put the blossom she found in her special box. Her special box was a sparkly pink box with real Dimonds in it, her grandma gave to her. Dimond was named Dimond because her eyes sparkled like Diamonds sparking in the shining sun. They ran down stairs and stopped “we have forgotten our sunglasses” said Ruby, “oh yes” said Dimond “but we are not going outside because its lunchtime” “ok then” said Ruby “what do you want for lunchtime?” said Dimond, “um birdseed cake and nut sandwich maybe” ok that will do” said Dimond “I can make that easily.”
“Shall we go out for a picnic?” said Ruby, “that’s a great idea” said Dimond after they had eaten their lunch, they packed the picnic basket on were on their way. “Can I tell you a secret” said Dimond “Of course” commented Ruby “Well” she started “Yes?” said Ruby, “I’m pregnant!!” “Me too!!” said Ruby “we shared the same secret, I’m so excited!!, what shall we do?” cried Dimond. “I don’t know I just can’t believe we are going to be a mum, I’ll have to get nesting” said Ruby. “And I’ll have to get ready to find a place to have kittens” Dimond replied confidently and hopefully wishing.
After they had eaten they went back home to celebrate the excitement of their pregnancy. “Shall I invite Chestnut?” asked Dimond, “Okay, can we invite Sawdust as well?” replied Ruby. “Of course, come on Ruby, let’s go and get our neighbours to join in as well.”
They rushed to the phone and called their boyfriends, “Hi Chestnut do you want to come over to mine and have a party!” said Dimond. “Chestnut said Yes please!” Dimond said to Ruby. “Sawdust said Yes too, I forgot to say it is a pregnancy party”, “Me too.”
They run into the kitchen and made rainbow cake, a chocolate cake and 20 little vanilla cupcakes. They looked so delicious Dimond and Ruby just couldn’t resist to eat a cupcake “Yum!” Ruby commented “This is delicious!”. “I know it definitely is!” Dimond have you invited our neighbours asked Ruby?”, “ All done finished everything.”
They went to the lounge and sat down for a rest. Dimond peacefully put on the television and snuggled up together in a big round fuzzy little ball of feathers and fluff……… “Ding Dong” the visitors are here” “Ok” said Ruby “Come In” Dimond shouted.
Chestnut, Sawdust, Amy, Cheryl and Emma “We’re here!”, “Hello how are you?” “Good but pregnant!” “Hi” said Chestnut, “Hi” Dimond replied. “Thank you” Dimond said as Chestnut gave a beautiful bouquet of flowers to her. “Dimond will you marry me?” said Chestnut, Dimond stared at Ruby, Ruby nodded. “I will” said Dimond everyone cheered and clapped “YAY!” screamed Ruby “YEAH!” cried Dimond. Dimond ran to her hug best friend “I am getting married”, “I know”, “Its so sparkly” said Ruby. Dimond ran over to Chestnut “when shall we have our marriage?”, “after you have had your babies” “ok” “come on everyone, lets eat before we all have to go home because its getting dark” said Ruby. “ok” everyone exclaimed tucking into the feast of treats and chocolate cupcakes.
Soon it was time to go home, everyone said goodbye and were on their way. “lets go upstairs and go to bed” Dimond said with a yawn, “good idea” Ruby replied tiredly. The two tired friends ran upstairs and hopped straight into their pyjamas and flopped into bed. “Good Night” they both said and shut their eyes and fell straight asleep with the sound of the small breeze and cheerful crickets doing their business all night, and a lovely peaceful night was made.
