The Robin and the Kitten Page 4

The sun was shining and the kids were outside playing in the newly mowed grass and all the lovely flowers and scarlet violets “Mum can we go to the beach” said Blossom the eldest kitten of Dimond’s litter “of course!” Dimond replied happily licking her on the head “hey guys, we might be going to the beach” Blossom screamed “yay!” everyone cried.

Blossom climbed up a tree with her brothers chasing behind her, she jumped out of the tree and did a somersault in the mid-air, all her brothers stared at her amazing trick “wow!” said bailey “don’t be silly she does gymnastics” laughed Duskey “uh huh” Blossom said when she hit the floor safely in a patch of flowers and a few bits of grass. “Come on everyone lets go to the beach” Dimond said. Everyone rushed inside to get changed into their swimming gear.

They ran outside again and ran to the beach “remember tomorrows Mums birthday” Angel exclaimed “so we have to do something!” Angel screamed as loud as she could. As they reached the beach they dived into the sea and the robins made a stone circle in the water and swam in it just like a birdbath. Angel got too hot from lying in the sun so she dived into the sea and was soon lovely and cold.

The fish were swimming round and round at her feet. Beautiful Angelfish leaped out of the water. The robins were flying about and dropping wet water onto Angel and Lily’s head “hey sparkle, you’re wet!” Lily shouted “sorry” she called from above. The kittens kept on playing some collected sea shells, built some sandcastles “Time to go back for lunch and then we can come back to the beach afterwards!” Dimond called “ok!!” the kids called including Sparkle, Jewel and their mum Ruby. The two family’s ran back home to get changed and eat.

Blossom, Angel, Bailey, Duskey, Glossy, Snowflake, Lily, Jewel and Sparkle all ran upstairs after lunch and got dressed back into their swimsuits and ran out of the house running back to the beach like mad runners and soon Dimond and Ruby couldn’t keep up “slow down” Dimond screeched “come on Mum” Blossom said encouragingly “we’re here” she cried “at last !!”. The kittens all crept through a secret passageway with hanging vines all around them “wow a secret rain forest on a beach!” Whispered Bailey half scared and half happy.

Everyone stated at Blossom, her fur was stood up on end. Soon everyone had discovered why. Flaming red eyes glowing in the dark sky, All was quiet and peaceful except for the frogs croaking the crickets singing the birds were twittering loudly meaning “no run go” Only snowflake could understand bird language “what did it say” Angel whispered “it said no run go and leave this place” she exclaimed “but we can’t “said Duskey holding out a black board “it says there is no escape!” “There’s always an escape in a rainforest” Angel cried “climbing trees!” They rushed up branches and tree trunks looking for a light sky “look” cried Glossy “sky.”

The kittens ran and ran and finally reached the sandy wet and salty beach “Mum” they cried. The whole family heard a faint roar in the distance even Ruby, Jewel and Sparkle heard it … They ran back home with their paws nearly on fire as for the birds their wings looked like they had almost fell off!! They’re hearts were beating fast and thumping like mad. They lied down recovering from what ha d just happened. All the leaves were changing colours. Some were orange, gold, yellow, red and some evergreens still green. A light breeze came plucking and forcing leaves off their branches.

It had been a terrifying day for them. Creepy shadows and blood thirst monsters and even sharp fangs sparkling in the darkness. Although their teeth weren’t that clean eating all those unwelcome intruders. It got dark and they ate dinner, rain upstairs got dressed and hopped straight into bed and soon were fast asleep.

  Autumn Verse.
