She put her free hand to his lips, silencing him. “I understand. And Clara is okay?”
“She is. She’s gone with Edee and the others to fill in any blanks she can from what she’s learned over the past year,” he returned.
“Will I get to see my uncle?”
Auberi nodded. “He will be waiting for us once the plane we are taking lands. Clara will be on the plane.”
“Good. I have a lot of questions for him,” said Nicolette.
“So do we,” returned Auberi, his expression hardening. “For starters, I’d like to know why he never told me I had a daughter.”
“Don’t try to eat him, okay, Dad…erm…Auberi.”
Auberi sat back and looked stunned.
Striker laughed. “Ha! All we have to do to shut him up is call him Dad.”
Garth lifted her hand again and kissed it. “Wait until our little one calls him Grandpa.”
Nicolette smiled.
Auberi looked as if he might faint. He stared at Boomer. “I think I’m having a heart attack.”
“Good news. You’re already dead,” said Boomer with a shrug as he continued to drive.
Nicolette teared up as she looked around the van at the men who were considered family to her now. When her gaze met Garth’s, she leaned and kissed his lips in a chaste manner. “Viking, I forgive you for slamming into me and smashing my cupcakes while staring at other women’s backsides and then kissing me.”
He grinned. “Yeah, but you kissed me back.”
She winked. “That was our secret.”
