My hand fell from the amulet and it bounced against my black and purple tank. Mr. Malau snarled and caught the heavy stone in a clenched fist. “Where did you get this?”
Dorian tensed, hand rising, and a current of wind began to blow around the airtight room.
“Ty gave it to her.” Vanessa’s stilettos clinked as she stepped forward. Her hand rested on the butt of her holstered gun, but she made no move to pull it free.
I stood my ground, even though Mr. Malau was breathing down my neck. “Your wife, his mother, left it with him the night she died. Ty wanted me to have it.” The words I was about to say broke my heart all over again. “His heart in stone, forever.”
Mr. Malau sighed and dropped the amulet. His hands covered his face before falling slack at his sides. “He truly trusted you. He told you everything.”
Though they weren’t questions, I nodded. “If he’s out there, I’ll find him. Damned, soulless, I don’t care. If I can bring him home to you—” I glanced around at everyone, my heart brimming with hope that I prayed wasn’t false “—to all of you, I will. Or I’ll die trying.”
Mr. Malau sighed, quietly studying my face. “I can see what my son saw in you. You’re so much like his mother. My dear Selena.” A determined smile curved his full mouth. “You’re a fighter, just like she was.” He held out his arm, hand sideways, eyes piercing. “If you’re going to succeed, you need leads and hardcore training. Do we have an alliance?”
As Kendrick and Dorian called out their disagreement, I stepped forward, my hand clutching the alpha’s.
“To saving Ty. No matter what it takes.”
