Mika gave Ryan a sharp look. “I never said it was the hell realm.”

“Hm, odd.” The portal opened and those blue eyes made her shudder internally. “I vividly remember seeing the rune for the City of Dis. Have a good summer, Mika.”

It took all she had to step over that threshold when Mika wanted to demand how Ryan could possibly know a rune so obscure and secret only a handful of people knew it – and almost all of them lived in hell.

  Well, except for Jessica.

The only reason she even had it was thanks to her ‘cousin.’ Jessica had texted her the image after explaining she wasn’t always on earth – popping back and forth to hell all the time as she did.

So how did Ryan know what it was?

Mika had done the extra credit equation without explanation for fun – as a test for those in the Hellfire Society, hiding as the blackthorn had explained.

Looked like she needed to text Jessica the moment she got home.

“The City of Dis?” Audrey asked as the door behind them shut. “In hell?”

Mika nodded. “I wonder if that’s what happened to his girlfriend.”

They walked toward the main entrance to the coven building where Chuck was supposed to be waiting for them with the car.

“What a place to get lost. There couldn’t have been a less shitty place to disappear to like…the faerie realm?” Audrey scoffed. “Or Hades. I hear the pomegranate there is out of this world.”

Mika snorted. “You should see if Hel is interested in dating,” Mika told her. “Since you have this weird obsession with the underworlds of the universe.”

  “Maybe I should,” Audrey teased.

The doors opened, and Mika saw Chuck waiting to take them to her family’s mansion. It felt right to have Audrey coming home with her and Mika took a deep breath of the San Francisco air.

Ryan and his mysteries would have to wait. She’d promised to take Audrey to see the Golden Gate Bridge after all.
