“No,” she breathed.
“And I have been unable to function these past few weeks because I am so distracted by thoughts of you, even though you haven’t been near me. They didn’t make that happen either.”
“No.”
“And I love you.”
Victoya inhaled sharply, her glistening eyes blinking rapidly.
His voice was so low, it was a raspy whisper. “They couldn’t have made that happen either, could they?”
Her mouth moved and nothing came out, but he didn’t really need an answer.
“Drocco and I made a vow that we would find the Omegas and return them to where they truly belonged. You belong with me, Victoya. I even suspect the Mothers knew it.”
She frowned. “I don’t think so, Commander.”
“Torin,” he said abruptly.
“Torin,” she corrected herself. “The Mothers wouldn’t have known we were mates.”
“I doubt the Mothers would have sent you to seduce a Beta when, as an Omega, you would have had the most power over an Alpha. There are plenty of generals who have shown interest in you even though they cannot smell you.”
“Only because of my role,” Victoya said wryly. “They wouldn’t have shown interest in a scullery maid.”
“They would if they had known you were there,” Torin insisted. “Because you are the prettiest woman in the entire Eastern Lands.”
Victoya clamped her lips together and that dusky rose inched across her cheeks.
“I think the Mothers sent you to assist Cailyn, or maybe to be eyes and ears inside the palace, and wanted to protect you from Alphas at the same time. I don’t think they ever expected you to actually seduce me.”
Victoya frowned thoughtfully. “The mission brief was very clear. I gave them update reports.”
“But how did they feel that you hadn’t made any progress even speaking with me over the course of all those months?”
At that Victoya frowned. “They were understanding about it,” she said slowly.
“And did you have any… training,” he asked through gritted teeth, “to seduce a man?”
To his relief, she shook her head. “Other than talking with the other Omegas who did it more regularly, no.”
“Then why didn’t they send any of them?”
Victoya didn’t answer, though it was clear her mind was racing. “So they still didn’t trust I was capable,” she said slowly, her disappointment clear.
“No, I don’t believe that either,” Torin said. “You were their eyes and ears, Victoya. You had access to most of the palace, whereas Cailyn was more restricted. They surely asked you to collect information and carry out other tasks?”
Victoya nodded, thoughtfully. “Constantly.”
“That is more dangerous, and takes different kinds of skills than extracting information from just one target,” Torin explained. “They likely misdirected you so you wouldn’t feel a lack of confidence about what they really wanted you to do.” He shrugged. “That’s what I would do, anyway.”
Victoya pursed her lips, but the look in her eyes suggested she wasn’t completely convinced.
“It is something we can continue to debate,” Torin decided.
“I could just ask them?”
“You’re never returning there again,” Torin said sharply, as anger and a tinge of panic gripped him hard. “Ever. You are my responsibility and I forbid it. Anytime you are around the Mothers, I must be present.”
To his surprise, Victoya smiled and he couldn’t help but push her against the wall and kiss her roughly, groaning at the pleasure of finally having his mouth on hers again. She sighed as he pulled away and looked up at him with that soft expression he would kill for.
“We will have a ceremony when we bond,” Torin said firmly.
Victoya’s face slacked for a moment, and then she burst into tears.
Torin froze in shock, then pulled her into his arms in dismay. “Victoya.” He stroked her hair. “Do you not want to bond?”
“I-I-I would… l-love that,” she spluttered between sobs.
Torin breathed out in relief. “Then you don’t want the ceremony?”
“N-no, I’d love that t-t-oo.”
“Then why are you crying?” he asked, bewildered.
Instead of answering, she threw her arms around his neck and kissed him hard, pushing her body up against his. He lifted his Omega in his arms and walked down the corridor.
Victoya tried to pull away as she realized they were leaving the couples unattended, but Torin didn’t let her. The Alphas guarding the corridor could assist the couples, if necessary. His Omega needed him and he needed her—and he was going to address that right now. He kept kissing Victoya all the way to his bedroom, and when they arrived, they didn’t leave for days.
As it should be between true mates.
EPILOGUE
Torin pressed his cock into Victoya’s pussy, groaning at how wet she was for him. The woman was always ready for him. It was as though she instinctively knew when he wanted her. He had only just woken up and kissed up the back of her thighs as she lay on her front, before lifting her night tunic and finding her scent so powerful he had to release his cock immediately.
She moaned into the pillow underneath her face and he lay on top of her carefully, trying not to put too much pressure on her in case he hurt the baby. A mound of pillows had been fixed under her stomach to lift her hips up so she was more comfortable, and she insisted the baby could take it, but he was reluctant to take any chances. Her stomach was enormous now, and every time he looked at her body he couldn’t help mating with her. She was even more beautiful now than she’d ever been, and so much happier too. She bloomed into an unbelievable beauty when she was pregnant. Not just her looks and body, but her confidence and her mood had heightened dramatically. He decided he would get her pregnant again as soon as possible and told her often that that would be the case.
Everything had been perfect since he accepted that Victoya was his Omega. During their bonding ceremony, they actually soul-bonded, much to his surprise. He thought they would have the usual one-way bond, like other Beta/Omega couples, but after she bit him, he had the unrelenting urge to bite her back. It had to be because of the increased instincts she drew out of him—that was the only explanation that made sense. Their bond lived in both of their chests as a flutter. It kept him aware of her moods all the time and he was grateful for it because she was sometimes still so shy.
She wriggled her ass at him, encouraging him to move as he lifted off her again to drink in the sight of her body. She had gained a little weight on her back, and her ass was amazing now that it was rounder and heavier. When he fucked her, the way her body moved was half the turn on. He began to work in and out of her as carefully as he could, but knowing it wouldn’t stay that way. She loved when he was rough, and he no longer felt any guilt for giving her what she needed—he thoroughly enjoyed and needed it himself.
His rhythm increased and her delicious slick sloshed down her thighs and dripped from his balls as he rammed into her over and over. She cried out and arched her back, her legs widening and stiffening as her orgasm approached.
Torin grabbed her wrists and pinned them down on the bed as his thrusts became erratic, his breathing heavy. Would she ever not feel this good clenching around him? It was a bliss he was unaware he could ever have, a bliss he had almost missed out on, a bliss that came with an equally satisfying mate who continued to surprise and delight him in every way. He had gotten the best of both worlds, and although he had hated what the Mothers had done to Victoya, he couldn’t deny that the soul-bond had changed things for him. It gave him an experience of the completeness that Drocco had often talked about, and even though he knew it wasn’t exactly like an Alpha/Omega’s bond, it was something he never thought he’d ever have with anyone.
As their orgasm crested at the same time, the bond between them fluttering and twisting, their voices and their bodies thrashed as they
slid against each other, unable to get enough.
Torin slammed into Victoya roughly as he came and rooted his cock deep inside her the way he knew she liked. He couldn’t give her a knot—it just wasn’t possible—but he was somehow able to stay hard in her after he came, for however long she needed, which had to be a result of her procedure. He found remaining within her deepened their relationship and they both enjoyed cuddling and talking in any position where they could be connected in that way. Unfortunately, it didn’t seem that Victoya was able to have a Haze anymore, but he wasn’t sure that was a bad thing. They were still able to get pregnant, so he wasn’t really aware of any serious disadvantage; however, he didn’t want her to feel that it made her any less of an Omega. She had hinted a few months ago that she and Cailyn wanted to visit the Mothers with their children once the baby was old enough. He had told her no immediately, but he had thought about it since. If the Mothers could give him more information about Victoya’s procedure and clarify to her about her mission, it might be worth facing them. Regardless he had plenty of time to decide.
He lay on top of Victoya, covering her small body, as their breathing calmed, but suddenly felt a sharp, uncomfortable pull in the bond. “What is it?” he asked, lifting himself off her.
Victoya inched her head up, her face contorted. “I think the baby’s coming.”
Torin froze for a moment, his mind blank as the panic began to rise. And then he snapped into focus and calmed down. He eased out of her gently and went to grab her robe, but she held onto him and pulled him close to her. “What is it?” he asked, the panic returning. “Are you in too much pain to move?”
She smiled at him, and the bond mellowed in his chest. “I love you, Torin.”
The joy that ripped through him every time he heard those words helped to calm him down. He kissed her and stroked her hair. “I love you too, Victoya. I’ll look after you during this, you don’t need to worry.” He would protect her with his life, always.
She chuckled. “I know you will. But will you be all right? You know this is not a military operation, don’t you?”
Torin frowned and then scowled. “I planned everything in fine detail so that all risks would be minimal.”
“It’s a baby, Torin,” Victoya said. “He’s going to be unpredictable, it’s in his nature.” She rolled onto her side and beckoned him into the bed.
Torin’s scowl deepened, but he climbed into the bed beside her and took her in his arms. “You never said anything before now about my plans,” he muttered, as he scooped her into him.
“Because I knew you wouldn’t listen until this point,” she said, resting her head on his chest. “We can stay here for a short while, just hold me through the contractions.”
So he did. And with each contraction, he rubbed her stomach and kissed her and told her how strong and amazing she was and how much he was looking forward to the life he thought he’d never have; with his smart, beautiful Omega and their children.

MALLORON
The wet slapping of flesh, vulgar mutterings, and the sour stench of unwashed, sweaty bodies went almost unnoticed by King Malloron. It was the same assault on his senses every time, regardless the variation of people that filled the large, dimly lit space.
The king strode through his most popular pleasure chamber, barely glancing at the bodies restrained and spread on various shaped benches, being used by the ones who paid for the privilege. He had seen it all before. It was the tenebris that had his attention right now; the powerful magical force inhabited every inch of him, writhing constantly, agitating his irritation as it swirled along his limbs, bursting in little explosions in the corners of his body. His shoulders, elbows, and knees ached from the pressure more than usual. He’d been without his potions for far too long.
He maneuvered through the large benches and apparatus’ that filled the chamber to the shaved-headed Alpha tasked with overseeing the pleasure chamber and its bookings. Standing in a corner, the Alpha was transfixed, watching a fat, hairy lord desperately clawing the back of a young male as he jerked wildly, emptying his balls into his ass.
“Any news, Banon?” Malloron asked, as he approached.
“No, Your Majesty.” Banon dragged his eyes away as the young man groaned. “All is well here.”
Malloron exhaled, glad for the news, but it was a relief he couldn’t enjoy. His territory was in a constant delicate balance of power and his recent absence hadn’t helped. It would certainly catch up with him sooner or later.
“Your pet hasn’t been down here much though, so it might be worth checking with him about the others,” the Alpha added, tersely.
“What do you mean he hasn’t been down here?” Malloron frowned.
“Since you’ve been in the Eastern Lands he hasn’t bothered—”
Malloron froze, snapping to attention. Someone just used magic nearby.
He scanned the chamber slowly. Nothing looked out of place, and yet he felt the magical fluctuations.
Both anger and intrigue built in him. No one should even be able to access magic in his castle, let alone use it. What the fuck was going on? First he was told the enraging news that Omegas hid under his nose using magic, and now someone was illegally using magic within the depths of his dungeons, somehow getting around the spell that had been cast to prevent such activity. His curiosity heightened as a suspicion came to him… what if the person using magic was an Omega?
“Your Majesty?”
Malloron brought his attention back to Banon. “What is it?”
“I was just saying that since you have been in the Eastern Lands, he has hardly been down here more than once.”
“Who?”
“Your pet.”
“He is not my pet,” Malloron said irritably. He didn’t have the patience for the
politics between his staff right now. Someone was evading his great great grandfather’s prevention spell, and that was no small feat. As he focused harder on the fluctuations, he realized they were coming from outside the chamber.
“—administering the chambers if he doesn’t know—”
“I will speak to him,” Malloron said briskly. He headed to the exit before the Alpha could get another word in.
He navigated through the darkened underground corridors of Eiros Castle, following the trail of the fluctuations. The increased discomfort of the tenebris made it difficult for him to differentiate the fluctuations. By now, the tenebris felt as though it was ripping through every muscle in his body. He needed to get to his potions soon; he’d never been without them for so long before and every moment that passed could cause his entire body to seize. But there was a criminal in his midst, and he had sworn he would never cow to the tenebris, so he pressed on, cursing under his breath that he’d been forced into this situation by the Emperor of the Eastern Lands.
Malloron had run out of his potions while assisting Emperor Drocco with his ridiculous pursuit of his Omega—the man was utterly obsessed. It was a terrible position to be in—she would forever be his weakness. But at least he had her. Of all the people he would have wagered on to discover a rare Omega, he never would have guessed Drocco.
Omegas had mysteriously disappeared from the known Lands over a century ago, and young female children were still disappearing regularly, regardless of attempts to protect them. Malloron never understood why some Alphas were so concerned. Omegas made Alphas weak and foolish, and nothing he’d witnessed yet disproved this fact. The lengths Emperor Drocco, a strong and fearless warrior in his own right, had gone through to secure his Omega was fucking ludicrous. In fact, the city around Malloron’s castle was still suffering the effects of his actions. The only thing that made it worthwhile was the vital piece of information he’d learned while there.
