“That’s awesome! Thanks for your help today. You’ll be a manager in no time,” Laura said with a wink, patting Katie on the back as the young girl went out the front door.
Sawyer walked in just as she was closing up and swept Laura into hug. He nuzzled his nose against her hair and sucked in a sharp breath.
“Today’s special was banana pudding cupcakes?”
“How do you do that?” she asked with a laugh.
“I have very keen senses, Miss Bennett. For instance, my sense of smell is nothing compared to my sense of taste,” he said, bending down and stealing a long, slow kiss. “You had a vanilla latte from Jolt?”
“And you had garlic pasta from Zach’s?”
Sawyer pulled back and laughed, covering his mouth with his hand. “Sorry. I ran out of gum.”
“So how was your day?” she asked as she slipped her arms around his waist again.
“Great. Tommy actually learned that new chord I was showing him on the guitar. We’re planning to have a whole talent show at the end of camp next week, and I can’t wait for you to see the progress these kids have made. I’m so proud of them.”
“Well, I’m proud of you, Sawyer.” She kissed him lightly on his neck and then made her way to his lips again.
“You are? Really? Even though I’m not a big superstar anymore?”
“You’re my superstar, Sawyer Griffin, and that’s all that counts.”
