A NOTE ON THE AUTHOR
Peter Cozzens is a foreign service officer with the U.S. Department of State. He graduated summa cum laude from Knox College with a degree in international relations. He also attended the Chinese University of Hong Kong and is a member of Phi Beta Kappa. Cozzens served as a military intelligence officer with the rank of captain before joining the Foreign Service. He has contributed articles to the Illinois Historical Journal and has written historical introductions to modern editions of Thomas Van Horne's History of the Army of the Cumberland and Henry Cist's Army of the Cumberland.
