“I'll definitely be there,” Lexi said. “Especially as Dad has decided to go to an artists’ retreat in France over Christmas and the New Year.”
“You can always come to me if he ever does that sort of thing,” Bella insisted.
Jack finished his drink and turned to Alessandro and Sacha. “Why don’t you guys go back to the café and count the takings for tonight, then we can decide what to put the money towards before we clear up here.”
He handed the pot of money to Alessandro. “You two go ahead,” he said. “I've just got something I want to run by Bella. We won’t be long.”
Concerned, Bella kept her smile fixed as Sacha and Alessandro headed off. “Sounds ominous,” she said, hoping Jack wasn’t having second thoughts about their relationship already.
“I just need to show you something,” he reassured her. He took her hand and led her back to the cottage.
“What is it?” she said, wondering why it couldn’t wait as he pushed open the door and tugged her over the threshold.
“I just wanted to do this.” Putting his arms around her waist and pulling her tightly against him, he kissed her – slowly at first, and then more passionately.
It was the best surprise.
Bella decided that kissing Jack really was going to be her new favourite pastime.
