Chaos Magic: Life Sorcerer: Book Three - Return of Magic: Book Four
Page 19
Some of the bullets stopped dead at the shield, others were sent straight up, some were sent into the ground, and about four of them were sent straight back. Carson’s brother’s chest exploded in blood and he fell to the ground screaming in agony as he met his death.
The knives arrived, two of which hit the molten steel ball stuck in front of Carson’s body, but the rest were in line to his body. Unfortunately, what most magic had trouble with dealing with directly, physical attacks, chaos magic seemed more than up to the task. The knives scattered in random directions, stopped dead, or were sent back. Two of them even exploded, one into flowers, and the other into water which splashed his face.
Both Kim and Lin managed to duck down in time before the two returning blades could slam into their chests.
The ground exploded beneath Carson’s feet sending him on his ass, but he looked fine otherwise, other than very pissed off that all his men were dead, including his brother, and not one of their attacks had gotten through. The plan had gone more or less as expected, with a few changes of course, but he had no idea how they were going to kill him.
Carson screamed as he got up, and kicked his dead brother in the head, “Worthless bastard!”
They all exchanged looks. The priest really was nuts. He’d always thought that he and all his mates were a little fucked in the head after what they’d been through as the new world emerged, but the chaos priest was a whole other level of insane.
Carson turned and sent magic their way, it hit Emily’s and Mara’s shields, and didn’t get through them. But the white glow dimmed and they both started to pray to shore it up.
One of his new zombies got his attention, and he narrowed his eyes at the information the sex goddess just passed along. He sent out orders.
Carson was screaming incoherently at his dead brother again, and also yelling about Russian roulette as soon as he got his hands on that bitch goddess. He’d really lost it.
One of his zombies in the road between the trucks dropped his swords, and casually walked up behind Carson and reached out with his hands almost slowly.
He grinned, as he saw the zombie’s hand grip the back of Carson’s neck firmly to hold it in place, while the other reached around and gripped the man’s jaw. The zombie whipped his hand back with the strength of twenty men, and Carson’s neck not only cracked, but his head tore halfway off. Blood sprayed as the priest fell to the ground, dead.
Cassie asked in shock, “What the fuck?”
Yeah, it was a little surreal after all their overwhelming attacks had failed, that the man died that way.
He laughed, “Aurora told my zombie a secret. His shield doesn’t stop physical flesh to flesh contact. He set it up that way, so he didn’t have to drop it and raise it each time he wanted to fuck the goddess and the other whores, which was apparently a whole lot.”
Katie sighed, “Thank you. That was a risk with the hostages, but better than the standoff.”
He nodded, “I was counting on the zombie bodies shielding them, and I also hoped their own buddies would hesitate to shoot them in the first moments of confusion.”
That had mostly worked, save the crazy priest none of the others had opened up on their buddies.
He sent out orders for the zombies to escort the women back. The goddess was calm and walked freely next to his zombie’s side, but the blonde and brunette were terrified. He’d let Aurora calm them down, or his ladies, the last thing they’d want is a guy around. Once they returned, he walked the new ones over to the side, and took the rest of the life force back. They collapsed to the ground dead. He didn’t need them anymore.
It was pretty much done with, they still had to return the women and supplies, then destroy the guns and the truck. The ammo would be useless without those specific guns, so that wasn’t a consideration. Cleanup took about an hour all told, before the seven of them went home.
Emily stayed of course, and she’d help the women in the whorehouse recover from their ordeal. Katie and Bria also went home, so it was just him and his mates that returned to the house. As for the goddess, she’d been the most beautiful and sexiest women he’d ever laid eyes on, but no more alluring to him than his mates were. It just… wasn’t even a problem to ignore the attraction.
It seemed that Cassie and Kim had been right, the goddess probably only seduced the willing or the looking.
He wasn’t sure what would come next. Peace from the east hopefully, but he was sure other threats would emerge. They always did, assholes seemed to be the world’s most renewable resource for some reason.
They’d continue visiting the communities every third day and respond to emergencies, be they nature or human related.
Personally, he was looking forward to getting bonded to his elf so they could start a family as well. It was just a matter of time for Mara as well, she could already be pregnant, and they just couldn’t sense it yet. As for Lori, he was already committed, and he suspected she was as well. It’d just take time for their minds to admit what their hearts and souls already knew.
Life was good.
Afterword:
I hope you enjoyed the story. This Fourth return of magic book is the third of three focused mostly on Sean Anders and his Life Sorcerer story, the story of the west coast and all the people in his life. Obviously, there’s a smaller focus on other people as well. The epic storyline will continue with a second sub-trilogy, books five through seven will be coming soon. I chose to stick with the overarching name of return of magic and break things down into sub-trilogies and arcs.
If you haven’t read it yet, you might want to pick up the first book, emergence, which starts out Sean’s and Katie’s stories, and how the old world fell and emergence came about in more detail.
