Epilogue
“Agent Dufault.”
“Deputy Perrin.”
Distantly, a technician groaned. The novelty of their flirting had apparently worn off once they’d gotten together. Syler snickered. It served them right for placing bets, even if he didn’t officially know about those.
“Off to Russia again, are you?”
“Well,” the blond responded, “the Kremlin’s always up to something.”
“Undoubtedly. Armory?”
His agent followed behind him dutifully, shooting a lazy wave at Emily when he passed her desk. She was a bit wide eyed as she waved back, rushing off to somewhere, the expression a near constant in the wake of her training under Miranda, the poor thing.
“Sig 226, six magazines, one ear piece, and your passports,” Syler announced, passing them back to him without fanfare. Almost as if he’d pre-packed the kit.
Arthur grinned. “I don’t suppose I could talk you into something special, sweetheart?”
Syler’s hazel eyes danced. “I cannot be bribed, Agent Dufault.”
“I was thinking a kiss before I go. You know, something to tide me over before I have to face down the Soviets.” He leaned in, body bracketing Syler’s against the wall.
“If you think it’ll help,” Syler replied, tugging him down by his tie and pressing his mouth against the other man’s. When he broke away, he continued. “Of course, if that’s all you want, I can put the new cufflink set back.”
Arthur kissed him again. “Better not. In fact, I think they’ll get me home faster.”
“Mm, well, I suppose your better half is a mess without you.”
“He really is.”
They graced each other with doting looks. Nauseating, really, what they’d turned into with the other’s help. It was enough to give an onlooker cavities by proxy.
“Be careful out there, Arthur.”
“Of course, love.” The other man stepped back, tucking his passport into his suit jacket and holstering his Sig. He pressed one last kiss to Syler’s temple, smiling. “I’ll be back before you know it.”
“Good. I’ll be on comms.”
Arthur turned and headed out, leaving Syler to pack up the armory. He found it easier to let the other man leave without drawing it out overly much. Work was work, and it needed to stay that way. Besides, there was something to be said for enthusiastic welcome home sex.
Syler hummed, absurdly content with the world as he locked the door to the weapons store. A junior tech called for him down the hall, something about abnormal test readings in the new server banks. Syler grinned. Back to work then.
