  SUCCESSIO

Book III in the Roma Nova series

Roma Nova – the last remnant of the Roman Empire that has survived into the 21st century – is at peace. But Carina Mitela, the heir of a leading family and an officer in the Praetorian Guard Special Forces, is not so sure.

She senses danger crawling towards her when she encounters a strangely self-possessed member of the unit hosting their exchange exercise in Britain. When a blackmailing letter arrives from a woman claiming to be her husband Conrad’s lost daughter, Carina knows the threat is real. Trying to resolve a young man’s indiscretion twenty-five years before turns into a nightmare that threatens to destroy all the Mitelae and attack the core of the imperial family itself.

Carina faces a terrifying opponent – one she is uncertain she can defeat. Her career and marriage in ruins, and physically broken after failing to capture her nemesis, she must not only draw on her deepest reserves but also accept help from the next generation. With her enemy holding a gun at the heir to the imperial throne, Carina has to make the hardest decision of her life…

  AURELIA

  AURELIA

Book IV in the Roma Nova series

Late 1960s Roma Nova, the last Roman colony that has survived into the 20th century

Aurelia Mitela is alone – her partner gone, her child sickly and her mother dead – and forced to give up her beloved career as a Praetorian officer. But her country needs her unique skills. Somebody is smuggling silver – Roma Nova’s lifeblood – on an industrial scale. Sent to Berlin to investigate, she encounters the mysterious and attractive Miklós who knows too much and Caius Tellus, a Roma Novan she has despised and feared since childhood.

Barely escaping a trap set by a gang boss intent on terminating her, she discovers that her old enemy is at the heart of all her troubles and pursues him back home to Roma Nova…

  RETALIO

Book VI in the Roma Nova series

Early 1980s Vienna. Recovering from a near fatal shooting, Aurelia Mitela, ex-Praetorian and former foreign minister of Roma Nova, champs at her enforced exile. She barely escaped from her nemesis, the clever, charming and amoral Caius Tellus who grabbed power in Roma Nova, the only part of the Roman Empire to survive into the twentieth century.

Aurelia’s duty and passionate determination are to take back Roma Nova and liberate its people. But Caius’s manipulations have isolated her from her fellow exiles, leaving her powerless and vulnerable.

She knows she must mend bridges with the other Roma Novans in Vienna if they are ever to retake their beloved homeland. But they refuse to acknowledge her and without their trust and support, Aurelia doubts she will ever see Roma Nova again.

  PRAISE FOR INSURRECTIO

Book V in the Roma Nova series

“INSURRECTIO – a taut, fast-paced thriller and I enjoyed it enormously. Rome, guns and rebellion. Darkly gripping stuff.” – Conn Iggulden, author of the Emperor series

“Exploring the insidious spread of totalitarian ideals that undermine the social fabric of Roma Nova, INSURRECTIO is an excellent novel that builds to a fast-paced, tense climax that keeps the reader on edge to the very end. Highly recommended.” – Elisabeth Storrs, author of the Tales of Ancient Rome series

“Alison Morton’s INSURRECTIO is a triumph of the imagination. She uses her forensic knowledge of ancient times to create a Roma Nova that feels utterly authentic, populated by genuine real life characters. Roma Nova is under attack from within by a merciless dictator and only Aurelia Mitela has the strength to face him. But even Aurelia’s powers and principles are stretched by an enemy who seems to know more about her than she does herself. A brilliant helter-skelter mix of action and intrigue that hurtles to a bloody, heart-rending climax.” – Douglas Jackson, author of Gaius Valerius Verrens series

“Morton’s thrilling world-building is a masterclass in alternate history. You don’t just believe her version – you live every twist and turn.” – E.M. Powell, author of the Fifth Knight series

“Tense, fast-paced and deliciously inventive, Alison Morton’s INCEPTIO soon had me turning the pages. Very Dashiell Hammett.” – Victoria Lamb, author of The Queen’s Secret

“Grips like a vice – a writer to watch out for.” – Adrian Magson, author of the Harry Tate spy thrillers

  PERFIDITAS

“Alison Morton has built a fascinating, exotic world! Carina’s a bright, sassy detective with a winning dry sense of humour. The plot is pretty snappy too and gets off to a quick start which made it easy to keep turning the pages.” – Simon Scarrow, author of the Eagle (Macro and Cato) series

“The attention to detail is superb, as is the believability of this alternative history existence. It is a skilfully and intelligently written story, with first-class production and presentation.” – Historical Novel Society

  SUCCESSIO

“Alison Morton has done it again. SUCCESSIO is the latest in her series of powerful tales of family betrayals and shifting allegiances in Roma Nova. Once again, I was gripped from start to finish.” – Sue Cook, writer and broadcaster

“I thoroughly enjoyed this classy thriller, the third in Morton’s epic series set in Roma Nova.” – Caroline Sanderson in The Bookseller

  AURELIA

“What if the Roman Empire hadn’t fallen? Alison Morton handles this intriguing premise with her customary panache in AURELIA.” – Ruth Downie, author of the Ruso Medicus series
