Matat nodded his head and Griffon took Jade's hand.

Griffon began: "You had told me that jade was not a precious jewel but an ornamental rock. Confucious said: 'A stone that is beautiful, it has five virtues. There is warmth in its luster and brilliance; this is its quality of kindness; its soft interior may be viewed from the outside revealing the goodness within; this is its quality of rectitude; its tone is tranquil and high and carries far and wide; this is its quality of wisdom; it may be broken but cannot be twisted; this is its quality of bravery; its sharp edges are not intended for violence; this is its quality of purity.' You, my love, are much more than that," Griffon said, his voice choking. "You have become my sun and my moon, my day and my night. Time does not exist when you are at my side. It no longer drags or speeds past now that I have you in my arms. It is pure bliss. I love you."

Jade could not respond. Tears of joy slid down her cheeks, the torchlight reflecting against them. Griffon lifted her hand to his lips, kissed the back with a tenderness that melted her heart, and slipped a ring upon her finger. "I, Griffon Badger, take you, Jade Brockton, to be my wife. From this day forward, I promise to honor and respect you, to guide and encourage you, and to give you all of my heart, soul, body, and mind until that day when it is time for me to return Home."

Jade's hand trembled with her voice, emotion seeping through her tears as she recited the vows set by Matat's village: "I, Jade Brockton, take you Griffon Badger, to be my husband. From this day forward, I promise to honor and respect you, to encourage and obey you, and to give you all of my heart, soul, body, and mind until that day when it is time for me to return Home."

Griffon's hand was strong and steady in hers as she slipped the ring on his finger. Matat accepted the smoking pipe from a weeping Tasha and held it high for all to see. "The Smoking Pipe is a tradition my tribe has practiced for centuries. The elements of earth," he held up the clay pipe, "fire," he lit the dried herbs with a torch, "and wind," he blew the smoke over the couple, "are quenched in water. May your lives be as complete as those of creation."

Griffon drew Jade into his arms and smothered her mouth with his own. His lips kissed away the tears from her cheeks.

  "You are mine forever."

Jade smiled. An eternity of happiness was one blessing she would never refuse.

“I write what I know. With few exceptions, my scenarios are pulled from either personal experience or observation. I've served overseas as an Intell Specialist in the USMC, work as a nurse, and have degrees in Biology (pre-med) and a masters in Psych. Specialty? Deviant behavior and alternative lifestyles, of course. I put all of this together and try to bring about a fun, unique and, hopefully, thought provoking reading experience.”
