She realized there was no need to rush. She was at a delicate stage in her life, one that needed her to slow down. For the first time in a long time, Jasmin felt like she was making the right decision. She wondered if Colt had taught her a thing or two, after all, paying attention to that voice of reason in her head, realizing it was his.

“I had a lot of fun tonight,” Kyle said, climbing back in through the window. She wrapped her arms around herself, realizing how cold it had been outside.

“I’m glad you came over. You scared me a little, but I’m glad you did.”

“Hope I didn’t creep you out,” he said with a smirk.

“Clearly you didn’t,” Jasmin said, leaning in and kissing him one more time. The pair got caught up in yet another makeout session; it was soft and somewhat innocent, save for Kyle’s heated advances. “My uncle’s gonna be back any second,” Jasmin hissed, breaking their kiss and leading the way to the door. He followed her closely, saying goodbye, his lips pursed together in contentment - or remorse.

  “See you Monday?”

Jasmin leaned against the door and cocked her head playfully to the side. “Maybe even before that,” she said, biting her lower lip.

  Chapter 9

“I’m really sorry about last time,” Colt said, reaching for Maggy’s hand. She didn’t resist his touch, but put her other hand over his, keeping him warm.

“Don’t be,” she replied, lowering her head a little and shaking it. Her hair danced across her shoulders and her face fell into the soft yellow light of the restaurant. The faint melody of the piano played in the background, present but not evasive. Colt had managed to take Maggy out on a fancy date; he hadn’t done that since Leah. He was proud of himself, and rather giddy that she had agreed to go out with him again. “Listen, I don’t know what it’s like to have kids of my own, but I’m sure raising a child is a tricky thing.”

“It can be horrible sometimes, I’m not gonna lie,” Colt said. There was a pause. Suddenly the piano music was too loud to bare.

“You know I’ve always wanted kids, but I never really-”

  “Got around to it?”

They laughed. “I was married once.”

  “Really?”

“Yeah. I just recently got divorced, actually.”

Colt didn’t really know what to say. He just waited for Maggy to ease herself into this conversation, and she did.

“He was my high school sweetheart,” her lips twisted to a smile. “He was popular, charming. We went to college together, then we moved in together, got married.”

  “Then what happened?”

“Then he got violent. He would yell at me for putting too much salt in his food. Then he would shove me, but lightly. Then the shoving turned into pushing, then that turned into him beating me every night. Hey, you don’t have to feel sorry for me.”

“I don’t,” Colt’s face came to a relaxed state. His forehead had been wrinkled and his eyebrows furrowed together; just the idea of anyone harming Maggy made him furious. He wondered when he had gotten so protective over her, but it all made sense in his head.

“It made sense to run away,” she admitted. “But I didn’t. I kept telling myself he would stop, blaming it all on the circumstances, but never him. It was never him. Joshua was a good guy; he would never hurt a fly. I kept telling myself this. The Joshua I knew volunteered at pet shelters every Tuesday. He laughed a lot. He had a lot of friends. But in the end I realized that it had nothing to do with this.”

“And then what did you do?”

“It was a day before his birthday, and I didn’t know what to get him. So I went down to the mall and started shopping for men’s cologne. I found a few that I particularly liked, so I tried them on at the store. When I came home that day, he smelled them on me, somehow became convinced I was cheating on him with this guy from work.”

Colt crossed his arms and leaned back in his chair. Maggy’s eyes were wide, like she was reliving that nightmare all over again.

“I still remember the look on his face. It was almost like he wasn’t with me, like his head was someplace else, like he was on something. The next thing I knew he was pulling me by my hair, and then he had me in a headlock. I couldn’t move.”

  “Oh, God. Then what happened?”

“Thankfully, my sister showed up that day. She was coming over for dinner, his birthday dinner. I was planning on surprising him.”

The piano’s melody had faded, not because the man in the blue velvet suit had stopped playing, but because Colt couldn’t stop listening to her. His face was all scrunched up again because he couldn’t help it, he couldn’t help but feel sorry for her.

“She saw us through the window, and she kept pounding on the door. I was screaming at the top of my lungs, I remember. Miata called the police, and they came over and saved my life. She saved my life.”

  “I don’t really don’t what to say.”

“You don’t have to say anything. You’ve been through a lot worse, I’m sure,” Maggy said solemnly. Even in her darkest moments, she was still empathetic. Colt saw her differently now; she had become wonderfully three-dimensional. He knew her now.

“We’ve both been through some shit, huh?” he said, breaking the silence. Maggy managed to laugh, finally looking down at her plate, which had gotten cold.

“We should probably dig in, huh?” she breathed. Without waiting for Colt, Maggy dug her fork into the tender salmon flesh; he had decided to treat her to a fancy meal that day. Again, he hadn’t done that since Leah. Maggy deserved it, they both did. “Sorry to be a bummer.”

“Hey,” Colt paused mid-bite. “Don’t ever say that, please. I really care about you, Maggy. I know we haven’t known each other for that long, but I love being around you.” He paused, considering. “Would it absolutely creep you out if I said I’m infatuated by you?”

“Well, no, because I’m absolutely infatuated by you, too,” she said, smiling.

“That’s me,” Maggy said, pointing to her apartment building. She didn’t live that far away from Colt. He pulled over and turned to her.

“I had a great time tonight,” he leaned in and planted a kiss on her cheek, near her ear, catching a whiff of her hair. Maggy sat there for a second too long; she motioned to leave, but something was keeping her there. She took off her seatbelt rather slowly, like she was buying time.

“Want to come up for some coffee? Um, no wait, it’s almost ten. Wanna come up for a beer, a drink? Some wine?”

Colt snickered like a teenager. “Of course,” he said.

Maggy lived in a small apartment, one that she had recently moved into after her divorce. “You know I had the choice to keep my old apartment and, you know, kick my ex out, but I didn’t want to. I chose to move out because I didn’t want anything to remind me of him.”

“Must’ve been pretty painful, huh?” Colt said, and Maggy nodded.

They sipped their wine, catching glimpses of each other only occasionally, smiling timidly, like they were thinking too much.

“Hey, I noticed you have some essays stuck to your fridge? What’s that about?” he asked, raising an eyebrow at her.

“Well, you’re not wrong. They are essays,” she said. “See, in my six years of teaching I’ve been blown away only a couple of times, and I’d like to be reminded of those couple of times every morning for the rest of my life.”

“I’m guessing Jasmin’s not one of those people?” Colt asked with a smirk.

  “See, you’re doing it again.”

  “Doing what?”

  “Underestimating her. Assuming things.”

Colt’s eyes lit up. He didn’t know what that meant, but it meant something. “Mind if I?” he rose to his feet.

“Not at all,” Maggy replied, following him into the kitchen. Colt narrowed his eyes at the papers stuck to the fridge, carefully removing one fruit magnet after another, his gaze suddenly landing on Jasmin’s name. “She wrote a pretty awesome essay lately about
group identity.”

Colt weaved his way through the lines of writing. He was smiling the entire time, as though in a state of disbelief. “Because true sense of belonging only happens when we present our authentic, imperfect selves to the world, our sense of belonging can never be greater than our level of self-acceptance.”

Maggy looked at him, her arms folded across her chest.

“I didn’t think anything like that could come out of her,” Colt said after a long, contemplative pause. “Does that make me a horrible person?”

“What did I tell you about underestimating her?” Maggy said, that same ambitious look in her eyes.

“I’m never gonna do that again,” he tilted his head with a shrug. “She’s lucky to have you as her teacher.”

  “Thanks. More wine?”

Colt nodded, downing that last sip and holding his glass out for more. He was getting tipsy now, that tingly feeling in his head easing him through the night. Even though he was comfortable with Maggy, he was still pretty new to the dating game. It was an exciting world, a forgotten world, one that he had vowed not to enter. But then Maggy came along and changed all of that.

Maggy gave him a tour around the house, one that quickly ended due to the small size of the apartment. It was a one bedroom flat with a sophisticated kitchenette, a tiny bathroom, an L-shaped couch that seemed a little too big, no less than three yellow beanbags and a bookcase. The whole place smelled of lavender, and when Colt looked over he realized Maggy had lit up a few scented candles.

“This is some good wine,” Colt said, slumping down on one of the beanbags. He eyed Maggy as she paced the apartment frantically, squinting before realizing she had been cleaning up. “Hey, you don’t have to do that. Let me,” he said, rising to his feet.

“No, it’s okay, I can handle it,” she said rather hastily. “Just sit down, I’m almost done.” She was wiping the counter top when Colt pulled her in for a kiss. Her body moved towards him; she wasn’t very surprised, like she expected it. Or better, like she was waiting for it. A part of Colt was waiting for her to pull away, but she never did. A sense of relief struck him. He gained some confidence, holding her face in his hands, relishing in the warmth of her cheeks, pulling her in closer. Maggy leaned against the counter, tilting her head to the side, like she was melting.

“Pretty bold of you,” she said, breaking away. Colt snickered and kissed her again, and again. And again. The next thing they knew they were caught up in a heated makeout session, unable to keep their hands off each other.

“I’ve been wanting to do this for a while,” Colt hissed into her mouth. Suddenly he scooped her up and sat her down on the kitchen counter. Immediately Maggy spread her legs out wide, wrapping them around his waist, reeling him in. Colt pushed himself up against her, feeling her nails grazing into his hair as she got a hold of him. He wondered what she would think of him if she found out who he was, what he was, but it was a fleeting thought that disappeared in the face of more important things. Maggy kicked off her heels and held his face in her hands. She then pulled away and looked him in the eyes, blinking slowly, her lips slightly parted.

“You’re driving me crazy,” Colt said, feeling his own mouth water. Maggy ran her nails along the side of his face, causing him to shiver. “Do that again,” he whispered.

They were getting a little too hot for their own good. Maggy squeezed her thighs together, leaving no space between her and Colt. She was like a killer snake, except that he was springing to life with her. Slowly she started rocking herself against him, rotating her hips, driving him mad. “Oh my God,” she exhaled. Colt smiled to himself, musing on the notion that maybe she hadn’t done this in a while.

“No, not yet,” he said, breaking their kiss and running his hands down to her hips. He still hadn’t touched her yet, but he was dying to. “Can I?”

  She nodded.

Colt unbuttoned her skirt, pulling it slowly down. It slid down to her ankles, so she kicked it off, too. Maggy was wearing a pair of white lace knickers that left little to the imagination. He couldn’t wait to pull those down, too, in fact he wanted to rip them right off. With his gaze fixated on hers, he began to massage her clit with his thumb. Maggy exhaled violently, tossing her head back and clenching her eyes shut. Maggy held onto the counter edge, gripping it tightly, not letting go. She spread her legs out even wider, moving her thighs in fluttering motion as Colt played with her bud. He varied the pressure, watching how her face changed, using that as a guide to drive her crazy.

Her fingers were clasped behind his head, pulling him in, but he wouldn’t budge. It was all part of the torture. “Kiss me,” she begged, but he wouldn’t. Colt continued to massage her, squeezing the inside of her thighs from time to time, allowing his fingers to dance and tease her. “Come on, you’re torturing me,” she said, attempting to buck up against him again. Even though he was rock hard, he refrained. He wanted Maggy to beg him, to call out his name if she could. He wanted the neighbors to hear, and wondered if that made him a freak. But he wanted everyone to know that she wanted him.

Without waiting for him, Maggy took off her panties and tossed them halfway across the room so they landed on one of the beanbags. “Come on,” she said, her hairline dewy with sweat. “Fuck me, lick me, do anything.”

Colt smiled a mischievous smile. He then ran a hand along her pussy, staring at her hairy mound. Maggy was a full woman, in fact everything about her screamed womanhood. She had hair in all the right places. Her clit was fully engorged. She was waiting eagerly for him, craving him, hoping that he craved her too. And he did, he really, really did. But he didn’t want to give in just yet. Colt wanted to inflict that torture for as long as he could, mostly because watching Maggy lose her mind did more than just turn him on. It sent him to a different dimension, sent him dreaming. It was like nothing he had seen before. Her eyes were rolling back and her mouth was watering. It was almost like he had full control over her, or she was letting him have that control. Eitherway, he was loving what he was seeing.

When he was done massaging her, Colt dropped down to his knees. When Maggy opened her eyes and realized what he was doing, she sighed loudly. “Oh, God,” she exclaimed, bracing herself. Colt fit his head between Maggy’s thighs, breathing into her pussy, feeling her wetness with two fingers. “I can’t, I can’t!” she yelled, gripping the counter top edge again. Her knuckles had turned white. She couldn’t wait to feel his tongue on her.

Colt applied some pressure with his tongue. He barely poked her, feeling her swollen bud respond to him. Maggy shifted in her place, letting her head hang back as she let herself go completely. He flicked her with his tongue repeatedly, then licking her in circular motion. Slowly, Colt then proceeded to slip his tongue through her pussy lips. Her whole body shuddered at the feel of him; Maggy’s fingers twisted into Colt’s hair, hurting him just a little bit. The truth was that he liked it. He continued to lick her, mastering that push and pull, pushing through her swollen pussy lips; she was a little bit too tight, but he was determined. Determined yet gentle. He would soon use his hands as well, rubbing and licking her at the same time, sucking at her fine flesh, kissing her more gently than anyone else has.

Maggy closed her eyes and braced herself again. Whenever Colt saw that he held back, smiling up at her, flashing her a wry grin. She squirmed a little, again begging for more. She tried holding his head in place, but he wasn’t having it. Colt then rose to his feet. He was still fully dressed, but not for long. First he took off his belt, tossing it to the floor. It fell with a clank. Then he unzipped his pants, letting them slip down to his ankles. Maggy swallowed as she gawked at his bulge. Colt then took off his boxer briefs, freeing his member, which sprung loose. For a moment he stood there in front of her, allowing her a moment to drink him in. She couldn’t stop staring at him, and then without saying anything else, she took off her shirt. Colt realized she wasn’t wearing a bra this entire time. Her breasts were big and full, and perkier than a pair of r
ipe melons. He couldn’t believe what he was seeing. A typical school boy fantasy coming to life, encircling him, intoxicating him.

Maggy raised one leg up, ready to take him. His hands landed on her breasts, giving them a long, mindful squeeze. Her skin was softer than velvet, and when he looked down he realized her chest was covered in brown freckles. It was endearing, yet unbelievably sexy at the same time. With his eyes fixated on Maggy’s, Colt slowly entered her, feeling her fleshy insides hug him, hold him in place. His eyes rolled back at that feeling. Maggy, too, was lost in her own little world. She looked down at the mind boggling sight, watching Colt enter her slowly until there was nothing left of him. She didn’t know if she could handle his size. There was something pretty remarkable about him, almost alien.

Colt kept it slow at first. He maintained a steady rhythm, one that picked up with time, simply because he was getting hornier than ever before. He was rock hard, his member throbbing with an urge that was beyond him. Maggy was staring at him, almost challengingly, which turned him on even more. She wrapped her legs around him again as he fucked her, holding her chin in place, forcing that gaze. At one point he leaned in and kissed her, not letting her lips escape his, shoving his tongue down her throat. She seemed to be enjoying it just as much as he was, if not more. She was moaning into him, driving him absolutely mad. Colt’s hands were on her breasts, twisting her nipples from time to time, squeezing them as he fucked her hard. At one point her head slammed against the cupboards, so he scooped her up in his arms again and lay her down gently on the couch outside.
